LOVE this song dancing jig

So much fun... and it gets better later on... very catchy beat.
It would have made a popular single, that's for sure... with the beat it had.

cloud9 The instant I heard Gold’s first note, it became Prince’s mark on my soul: a tattoo I wear with pride.
mushy Prince is Dreamy, gives my Life that Pop and 2 the industry, he’s Royalty. cool

Yes, great track. He really makes that song his own. I can't listen to the original 94 East version anymore!

He's really at his best when he does it 8-track style. Meaning when he knows when it's time to stop adding overdubs. This is why "Dirty Mind" and "1999" last, apart from the quality of the songs : they have that kind of demo tape sound, the "I'm-a-trapped-in-a-basement-genius-but-one-day-I'll-show-them" kind of sound.

Niether have I.

Since there's a "u" in the spelling of the word "favour",
I wonder if maybe he sings this song with an English accent.

Ignore this post.

Finally this song gets the appreciation it deserves. It´s my all-time favorite outtake. LOVE this jam: the groove, the voice, the arrangement - just perfect!

Yo,
I just finished listening to it for the first time,
and I gotta say, this is a freakin' great song.
Man,
it's been a long time since I found myself really digging on a Prince song upon the initial hearing as I am with this one.

Classic Prince.

Sometimes it's absurd how blatant his talent for pop music is.

What a great synth solo. I love the way he dubs it with his voice, you get this intimacy feeling, the same you get with The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker solo.

Listen to the last verse after it : first, there's this static synth layer that adds depth... followed by a higher synth line oscillating between two notes.

He's singing : "I don't feel no pain, it doesn't hurt inside", but this thin line sounds kind of creepy, a little like the echo of an headache... so, in fact, pain.

But what strikes me the most is the authenticity of it. You feel Prince is taking a real revenge upon a particular girl who stood him up when he was a nobody, the passion he sings with leaves little doubt (I know the song's not his, but he's probably experiencing the situation at the time he's recording)...

Yet there is no violence, non cruelness in this revenge, it's like a play in the game of love, you lost, nyaah, nyaah... but at the same time you feel a melancoly, the genuine regret of the love story who did not happen, and how bad it felt then.

I don't know, maybe you know it's genius when you go delirious over a few minutes of music when you should be in bed.
