Prince doesn't want "millions"

From MSN news...

http://entertainment.uk.m...id=6618136

"The spokesman said Prince wants compensation, but isn't seeking millions."

He probably just wants thousands! Everything is OK now!

For all the work his charity is doing for the "disenfranchised" he sure is trying to create more "disenfranchised" people, by taking their money. Maybe Prince can sue them, take their money, they'll become disenfranchised, then they can get free food from his charity. You see, there is a plan after all. Now that's a film you can take to CANNES. Maybe Kevin Smith can do the documentary.

There is a very simple, clear, and complete explanation for these latest actions that's clearly spelled out in the MSN news article that was linked to in this post, which everyone read, RIGHT?

And it makes perfect sense to me. Because what has happened (as I see it), is almost like an example of that old game of "Telephone", where one person whispers a story into someone's ear, and that person to another, to another, to another, until you get to the last person in line playing the game, and they repeat the story as it was told to them. And then of course the fun and interesting part of the game is to realize that by the time the story was passed between so many people, that the final telling of it bears little resemblance to the original, actual (true) story:

A spokesman for Web Sheriff, the firm Prince hired to enforce the ban, said: "Prince is not suing his fans. This is not to do with freedom of speech.

"There's a dispute between NPG Records and AEG and the administrators of these web forums.

"Prince doesn't want the view of his concerts represented by grainy images taken from photographs shot on mobile phones.

"He has his own official website that people can go to if they want to see photographs."

And where are we today? Talk of fans being sued by Prince, that Prince hates babies, speculation that tattoos will be surgically removed from people's bodies, that Prince has indicated that he hates his fans, and this idea that because we bought a few Prince records or went to a show (which we all enjoyed at the time), that now somehow Prince is our Bitch and needs to comply to our demands. Craziness!

From what I've read, of the small bit of "official" news and information that has come out about this (directly from the parties involved) is that the only issue is; Prince is most concerned with being poorly represented by the grainy images people take of him and post online, along with poorly re-recorded music and bootlegs of HIS music online.

And just from a personal perspective, I know I HATE having my picture taken, because candid snaps often don't show me at my best. I can only imagine how someone as visible and ever-present as Prince must feel, especially when so much of what he does RELIES on image. I know for a fact that I've seen pictures taken by fans and posted online that I felt didn't leave Prince looking too good. Maybe he was tired that day, maybe the shutter went off while he was blinking, or yawning or whatever. But those pictures DO leave an impression on the person viewing them.

All this is to say that I can understand why Prince wouldn't want these pictures turning up online, anymore so than anyone of us would want such unprepared, candid pictures of us turning up online for the world to see.

And from what I can tell, this is the only request that Prince seems to be making. I don't even see that he has threatened to sue anyone, as much as he has just asked (with legal support) that his rights, under copyright law, be protected. That's all I see: That Prince's people have ASKED websites to NOT post images of him, and that he offers his personal website as a place to view pictures of him, if you want to see him that badly. In addition, when websites have complied, Prince has even gone online to say THANK YOU! Well Dayum! What more could you ask?

And for this, this thing has escalated into threats against Prince's life, and other words of such vile hate, posted in a public forum for Prince and the rest of the world to see? All in the name and spirit of FANS demanding the right to worship some guy that clearly doesn't even want to be worshiped! Again: Craziness!

And then here's Prince: This guy just trying to make music, singing and dancing for the world, pouring his heart and soul out in every song he creates, not hurting anyone, respectfully asks websites to follow a few guidelines regarding the distribution of his own image; and people have GONE OFF on him.

Well, it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, and without investing too much more energy to this topic, I refuse to be a part of it. FANS wanna drop off, give up their collections, boycott his music, and talk shit about a guy who just days before they worshipped? Fine, I'll be checking eBay for some great deals and look forward to having a little extra elbow room at the next Prince concert I go to.

Okay, thanks for allowing me to share. And now: Back to your regularly scheduled program of "Hate & Disrespect".

Just curious... why would you accept what Web Sheriff says is the truth, versus what the webmasters/fans of all three sites have reported? What makes you trust Web Sheriff, who works for Prince, more than fans who work on a non-profit site?

You're simply missing a lot of the information of the case. To have grainy pictures of Prince removed was not his only request. Anyway, it doesn't matter what Prince wants -- these are fansites, not official sites, so he has no say in how the site is presented.

As far as this being the only request, you are wrong. Housequake, in particular, gets requests daily, and has been for months. Just recently, fans' photobucket albums have been emptied of mostly all Prince pictures, whether Prince owns the copyright or not. Prince has also made requests for sites to remove banners, other pictures he does not own the copyright to, and also made it clear he does not like certain things people have said about him.

In essence, he wants to control each fansite, only allowing approved pictures and news items. Look to the past to see how this all started. He wanted all fansites to "cease to exist" and join his website. It appears that he still wants that today. He can't have it, because it's not up to him.

In all fainess to PDogz, there are some excellent and strong points brought up.

As for "photobucket", peoples accounts get deleted all the time and not just for images of PRINCE but also for other copyrighted images of musicians, celebrities, porn, cartoons etc.

I find it "funny"" that some people here bring up missing or deleted photobucket accounts caused by PRINCE HIMSELF as "another...look how bad PRINCE is controlling our lives again" slander as if it was TRUE!

I still want to see the language in these documents showing what PRINCE is accused of.

What he really wants is for everyone to go to his site instead, which presents NOTHING. Then he'll add forums and constantly censor them like he did with the NPG.

Not acceptable.

He probably just wants thousands! Everything is OK now!

Just as long as he doesn't dig into my pockets, I've got a family to help feed and receipts for my Prince purchases to deduct from the dig just in case he decides to dig, ya dig?! lol

All the speculation that has been generated about what exactly it is that Prince is asking for hardly helps matters and has produced remarkable and extreme responses, many of which have been unnecessarily personal and vindictive in my opinion.

It could be cleared up totally, and everyone would know where they stand, if WebSheriff gave its consent for the cease and desist letters to be published openly.

So there!

Would a $1 from every member do it, Prince?.

Prince: To avoid double standard, you are going after your Fan sites, but you really want the millions from the BIG media sites.

That'it, right?

For all the work his charity is doing for the "disenfranchised" he sure is trying to create more "disenfranchised" people, by taking their money. Maybe Prince can sue them, take their money, they'll become disenfranchised, then they can get free food from his charity. You see, there is a plan after all. Now that's a film you can take to CANNES. Maybe Kevin Smith can do the documentary.

You do not create disenfranchised people by taking away their money. To disenfranchise someone means you deny them the right to vote.

See this all started because somebody had to take a bad photo of
Prince and just post it all over the net! confused

Who was the person who posted that photo of Prince with
the very bad hair day? Prince being jumped on by crazed fan on stage?
Prince crazy facial expressions while jamming on his guitar?
I knew this was coming?

What grainy footage/photos from concerts? There haven't been any posted, letalone hosted in the galleries. There were some at first but they were deleted and everyone abided by the rules - and this was over 2 months ago. You want grainy concert footage? Check out the live Sky News broadcast on the last night at the O2. In fact some of the bootlegs from fans are much better pic quality than the official stuff.

He wants information, basically he wants fans to rats other fans out...to find those who proliferate bootlegs and other unauthorised recordings.
