is PE his worst album?

Just read a few threads and saw how some people really hate it. months ago it seemed to be a lot of fun and positivity with this album and now its the opposite.

are the lyrics THAT bad?

It is not his worst album, but I would say it's easily in the bottom 5.

Out of the three new ones, i rank Musicology the highest, and 3121 the lowest. Planet Earth is much worse than Musicology and way way way better than 3121.

We all have differing opinions.

For me, PE is far and above his worst album.

Rave has, and retains that crown, with Musuckology and 3121 snapping at it's heels.

To answer the question of the thread, not at all. There are some silly lyrics on this one but there is always a song on his album where his lyrics make me go .

As for PE...I hate to say it but I am not diggin this one all that much. I like The One U Wanna C, Guitar, and Chelsea Rogers but thats about it. I WANT to like it but it just aint happenin'. Prince has SO many outstanding albums in his early-to-mid career that it's impossible for Planet Earth to even crack the top half.

And out of the bottom half, it's merely so-so. There are some really good tracks on the album though.

Personally, I would say that NPS or C&D is his worst album ... but again, even those albums have highlights.

PE was a weird album for me.

It's brief like Parade, and like Parade, it mixes a bunch of different genres into a very small space of time. Unlike Parade, none of the songs are that rememberable, and none of the songs are all that unique.

It has some fun songs, "Mr Goodnight" (which most hate, but I find it silly fun), The 1 U wanna c, Chelsea Rogers, and Guitar. And it has some is his better vocal treatments and melody in a while, like on "Somewhere here on Earth".

But for some reason, none of these elements actually come together on the album to give it that "umph" that keeps me playing it over and over again. By the second rotation of this thing, I was already skipping tracks.

I guess, to me, it's like the Batman album, or COME. Good albums with no "wow" moments , or real reasons to play them often in my stereo.


(of course I know folks who love the shit out of those tepid albums though).

It's a very forgettable, throw-away Prince album.

"3121" is his best since "Rainbow Children". It's an enjoyable album from start to finish with real gems like "Lolita", "The Word", "Get on the Boat", and "Love".

Planet Earth is very unremarkable. Not awful songs or anything. Just 'we've heard it all before'.

P needs to reinvent, try some new stuff. And for all you people saying he doesn't, you're wrong. He does. Because he's regurgitating the same songs over and over. He's a brilliant artist and he needs to expand and explore.

And of course your question is just up for discussion. It isn't possible to have a decided "worst album" amongst all Orgers (or fans in general) since it all depends on taste. We would turn our discussion to a debate real quick, and it would just go on and on...

I think its brilliant. Defo in my top ten, in fact its his best work since Sign O the Times in my opinion.

Ive listened to it at least twice a week since its release and evey day for the first 2 weeks. I Love it!

Its certainly not shit in the slightest and undoubtedly wanks in the face of anything anybody elses has made this millenium.

It is not his worst but definetely not very good...
The worst for me is "Graffity bridge" and "For you"
I do prefer 3121 and musicology and I love TRC
