Like many, I disagree with many of his decisions. I think he just sometimes take things too far. Sometimes makes me wonder if he worships himself, but that does'nt take away the fact that I enjoyed his music all these years. I will continue to support him as an artist, just not many of his personal decisions. I love him no matter what.

In a word no cool

Alot of people may not like what he's been putting out for awhile, but because they know what he is capable of musically, curiosity will always keep them coming back for more regardless of his actions...

your friend

he's a musician albeit a popular one.

he owes the people NUTHIN.Please stop makin me cringe with your nonsense.

though in my humble little opinion out of any artist i can think of he has given his fans an immense amount..

for fucks sake we got invited to his bloody soundchecks and his recording studio.multiple radio shows, downloads, box sets etc etc

ive noticed that since P has become popular again the nutty "fams'are making more and more of an appearance.

why do you care if he sues his shoeshiner???

why dont you just concentrate on the music?

i can understand if you lot were 15 but christ most of you are middle aged men!!!

just chill out-stick on parade or a bit of donny hathaway and remeber when there wasnt an internet

I WANT THESE SORT OF THREADS BANNED!!!!!

I WANT THESE NEWBIES LIKE CHRISTOS 7 BANNED!!!! its too early for me to be cringing

"boycott prince" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH OOOOOH HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA

You sound like a reactionary republican -- saying inflammatory crap that if someone actually thought about for 20 seconds, would be dismissed as simplistic and missing the point. Yea, you're right - people shouldn't give a damn if Prince sues his shoeshiner (clever) but I think it is the proper domain for Fans (fams or whatever the hell you'd like to call them) to get upset if the artist they enjoy listening and viewing is avidly working AGAINST the fans listening or viewing them except in limited venues where the artist profits. This isn't encroaching on a personal battle by prince, but goes to the very essence of what being a fan of a musician is all about - - listening to their music!

I never cared that Prince was a jehovah's witness, that he seems like a bad friend, that he's contradictory, that he pisses purple, whatever - that's irrelevant....but his personal battle against bootlegs and his use of intellectual property rights DOES effect me as a fan since it effects how much and easily I can listen to his music. It's hard to CONCENTRATE on what's no longer available to me. Yes, he's been very prolific and given us more "legal" music than any other artist of our time -- but that's irrelevant. As a fan - we want all of it; that's our proper role afterall. So we're not 15 year olds whining about his personal matters, but are FANS upset that he is limiting what we can enjoy.

sorry -putting it simply-im 34 -been a fan for 20 years and cant understand why you would care.here i am at home digging Xpectation.
im not watching some grainy 02 concert footage on youtube.

please tell me-whats no longer available to you???

what did you watch/listen to solely everyday via the net?

you realy going to miss your daily dose of'"A hard life" lol

I'm 38 and i've been a fan for 23 years. Don't get me wrong, i'm no fanatical

follower, I don't love everything he puts out by any stretch. However, over the

23 years, Prince has brought me real joy and given me amazing pleasure with his

music, and that's where it begins and ends for me. I don't collect things, I

don't keep concert ticket stubs and programmes...HELL, I don't even care who

he's doing this week or marrying next week.

In short, I have a life of my own, a family, friends. Prince is neither family

or friend, he's a rock star...who gives a flying FK what he does on his own

time. He owes me nothing, I owe him nothing. He entertains me, I pay him for

his talent. Sue who U want Prince, DO what you want Prince...WHO FLAMING WELL

Maybe Prince has decided he has enough money now. Perhaps it's worth it to him to destroy traces of his past on the internet.

If he goes underground and becomes one of those David Sylvian guys who creates for a limited audience, great! I'll make an effort to keep up.

Maybe that's what he wants now, to just kick back and chill.

thumbs up!

Maybe that's the issue there. Since converting, Prince has been going out of his way not only to act as if his former self and former work are unworthy, but to pretend it never existed in the first place. He refuses to sing certain songs and edits many of those he will. Maybe, just maybe, this has more to do with his clean slate ideas than money or ownership. It sounds goofy, yeah. But it's Prince. We all know he's prone to strange or baffling behaviour.

Maybe he does really believe it is unworthy... I guess he can do what he pleases with his own life from here on out...

But it might frankly be better for him to just let the past go, ya know? Or he'll be fighting for the rest of his life, and how peaceful will that be for him?

Just a thought...

Okay so he's taking videos off youtube.com. So what. I've see them already. So whats' there to be mad at. ??

lol Why would I boycott Prince? I've been a fan for 25 years! To be a Prince fan is to be open minded. We never do hear anything about his day to day life but it's kinda funny how we do hear about all these really odd escapades of his...the really juicy stuff that creates the most buzz and leaves us all scratching our heads! I agree. I see nothing wrong with what came before, but it goes without saying I'm coming from a completely different point of view than Prince. If he thinks there's something to hide, that's his perogative, but he really should just let it go and move on. He'd be best off just not acknowledging his past and his past work if that's what he wants IMO, rather than making a fuss over a few old videos and going out of his way to supply new lyrics to the music.

Nope, no boycotting here. I don't agree with Prince working with this Websheriff company, which seems to be a real joke. But, I'm not going to get all worked up over the issues either.

We've been through this type of thing before. He'll play this game for awhile, then get tired of it and things will loosen up again. Until then, people just need to be more discreet about stuff and not make public announcements about things.

Just think how different things would be in the fan world without the Internet taking away the 'magic'. I really don't care what Prince does outside of his music and entertainment. I'd rather not know the bad stuff...where are my purple colored glasses anyway?? wink

Thank u Jony... I'm not a fan of 'rants' usually, (too much negativity in this world), but you have a great point. 'Fams' must learn to separate art from the artist. If he's a jerk, doesn't mean he ain't funky. When there's a new singer with a new album, do you read his/her bio and publicity before judging his music? No! If you do, then its not the music you're judging but the person. And who are you to judge someone you never met? The only time I would boycott Prince is if the profits of his music finances killers, rapists and tyrants. If that were to happen, I would download the funk. pardon my french.

Although I agree with almost everything you said until the last line, I wonder...

Would you feel the same way if you put up a website dedicated to glorifying and promoting him, and then he turns around and threatens to sue you over something as petty as using the prince symbol to name him (when he himself insisted on being referred to by said symbol), just because you declined to allow your website to be absorbed into a "Collective" website of his own that he was trying to create to restrict and control the information and statements about him on the web?

Because that's what happened 10 years ago.

My answer to that is "I don't know" as it didn't happen to me. I guess my observations on what you said tho' would be as follows....

Did Prince ask you to set up a websie to promote or glorify him? Or, is this really you expecting Prince to agree with, and go along with what YOU want for HIM, because you feel you did this FOR him?

We tend to do things in life for our own reasons (we are of course responsible only for our own actions and no one else's, so it follows that what we do, we do for our own reasons) and i'm guessing that the setting up of this site was important to you, but unfortunately it seems...not to Prince, for who's benefit you say you did it.

I suppose Prince has a right to decide how his name, picture/symbol and the promoting of him and his music is handled, regardless of how well meaning you were in setting up this website in his honour. Maybe he felt better placed to make "statements" about himself on his own site, and that was as important to him as your site was to you?

If I sound preachy or a d**k (and reading this back, I probably do) I don't mean to. Maybe I would be pissed if this had happened to me, but it didn't. But I'm happy to take personal responsibility for my own actions and am happy to let Prince, you and everyone else do the same and do what's right for them confused

As a small thought. If I set up a website in your name/ honour, with pictures of you, and made "statements" about you, ...would you think it perfectly reasonable that you might feel better placed to handle that site yourself, than I, a man who has never met you and knows nothing about you as a "person"? And if that site had been created FOR YOU, would you think it strange that I would want to retain control of it, and the use of your image rights and the site content without your approval/involvement...when it was done FOR YOU in the first place??. I go back to the question...who was the site set up for, Prince or you?
I know for me, i'd rather run my own site than have a stranger run it in my name...FOR ME, however well meant it was. smile
