If the org and the Internet were around in '84...

Just for fun...written as if I was still 15.

Man, I just got the new Prince LP, "Purple Rain" and I'm telling you it is bad! The first song I listened to was, of course, "When Doves Cry." I've been addicted to that song since I've been hearing it all over the radio for I don't know how many weeks now. It wasn't until the song was over that I realized that I was playing Side B first. I flipped it over and started listening to the first song "Let's Go Crazy." It's starts off like a sermon and then it just starts rocking! The next song is a duet with a girl that sounds a lot like Vanity. I haven't looked for her name and besides, the lyrics are written in a tiny cursive-like font and it hurts my eyes trying to read it. Anyway, "The Beautiful Ones" will probably be Prince's best slow song ever. I never heard anyone scream on key like that before! There's some weird stuff on this record as well. Like the two girls asking each other about warm water, but the weirdest thing is the strange language Prince seems to be singing at the end of Side A. I have no idea what he's saying, but I'm sure it'll go down as one of music's greatest unsolved mysteries. The song before that part is "Darling Nikki" and I'll just say that if you listen to it, make sure your parents aren't in the room. The song "Purple Rain" is, in a word, phenomenal! At almost nine minutes, it has it all: great vocals, inspired guitar solos, beautiful melody! I had my stupid friend listen to the record, but he says that he likes his "Can't Slow Down" album by Lionel Richie better. What a dumbass! I told him he was crazy and that we'll see who's on top come next year's Grammys! I'm already looking forward to Prince's next LP, but I'm sure he'll tour and milk this one for quite a few years, so I'll just have to be patient. Has anyone else out there gotten this great album yet?

Oh my god he is such a sell out!! For You was waaay better, why doesn't he make anything funky like Let's Work anymore. He's lost it, trying to be a white rock star. I'm moonwalking over to the mj forum, did you see him on Motown 25 at least he still knows how to be black.

there is a rumour going around that he had an afterparty at his mansion the other night. celebs in attendance included the hillarious eddie murphy. Supposedly, he whupped a load of them at basketball and then served them all pancakes. I hate the tabloids!

Just finished listening to PR, and let me tell you, I'm not really feelin' it.

Nothing funky on here at all. Where is the follow up to Lady Cab Driver or D.M.S.R.?

The Beautiful Ones is just okay for me. No where near as good as International Lover or Do Me Baby.

That song "When Doves Cry" doesn't seem to have a bass line. Boy, Prince is really tryin' to go mainstream with this album, but I think it's gonna tank.

I believe that Prince really must have blown his wad on his first 5 albums, because this Purple Rain thing just ain't doin' nothin' for me.
He is exactly who we thought he was

Where the f**k is the hardcore funk of "1999"?

What is this commercial nonsense? I thought he was a Black man. Oh well, another idol has fallen.

I mean, I love "When Doves Cry", but this man has changed; and not for the better.

I'm leaving this discussion forum for ever. Good riddance.

Here's the genuine, non-Punked Internet from 1985. What the hell did we ever do without fingertip access to such enlightenment?

This will make me lots of friends, but the worst song I've heard in
recent memory, Emmys, Oscars and whatever-the-music-award-is-called
bedamned, is Purple Rain. I mean to say, what stimulating lyrics:

Purple Rain, Purple Rain, Purple Rain, Purple Rain.
AUUGHGGH AUUAAAUUUGGHGH AUUUGHGHGHGHHH (sp?)

Which is not to say that "Push, push in the bush" was poetry, but at
least it wasn't pretentious.

And I rather liked "Drop-kick me, Jesus, though the goal-posts of life",
"I've been flushed from the bathroom of your heart" and "I've got tears
in my ears from crying in the night over you." They create such an
immediate image, which is the function of poetry.
