POLL: 3121 or Planet Earth?

For me, it's 3121. I like more songs on it than I do Planet Earth.

Without question...

3121 is the superior album. His best in years. Even though it didn't break too much new ground, it's a rock-solid Prince album with songs that have energy and excite, whereas "Planet Earth" really lacks excitement for me...very bland sounding tunes...nothing very memorable.

If I could launch 5 Prince albums into space, to give aliens an idea what Prince music is, they would be...

Purple Rain
SOTT
Lovesexy
3121
The Rainbow Children

PE2007

Hmmmm...I'd say "3121", because I've had a lil over a year to really enjoy this album.

I Love all the songs on "3121", I also enjoyed this period from Prince!
With "Planet Earth" this album is good, there are some great trax on it!

"Lion of Judah" -Hands Down; One of the best trax from Prince in some time.
It harkens on the days of the Around The World In A Day!
His lyrics, the desperation you hear while he sings this tune with Wendy and Lisa backing him. Its an awesome song!

"Chelsea Rodgers" -My 2nd Fav., I Like the 70's Gay Club Feel (lol), As many gay clubs as I've frequent with friends from the mid-90's til now. This song is definitely one of the best 70's sounding trax I've heard in a while from any contempary pop star who revisits this sound.

"The One U Wanna C" -I can't help but to dance!!! I'm also a BIG Bon Jovi Fan, this song would have gone perfectly on any Bon Jovi's compilation.

"Future Baby Mama" -What A Jam!, Not quite a "Do Me Baby" or even "I Hate U", but its a smooth up to date slow jam. Thou its a good song, I just wish Prince brought back the DRAMA in his Ballads. The chill bumps came during the first listen online from that "ATL RADIO SHOW", but Prince -You couldve let loose on this a bit!

"Somewhere here on earth" -Another great song! I can't even explain it, Prince is giving me "Condition of the heart" in 2007!

Comparison to 3121...its a good album, but "3121" probably would win over "Planet Earth" in my book, because it lacks that Funkiness. Thou I love the return to retro sounds, because It definitely jars up a few old school memories.

"3121" -U SCORE MORE!

Update: My Top 5 Prince Album to Shoot up to Space are:

1.Purple Rain
2.Sign O'Times
3.1999
4.Lovesexy
5.3121

planet earth 4 me. headbang

If only for the tracks:

lion of judah sounds sincere, agressive and vulnerable. front line fighter
&
the 1 u wanna c (which is on a par with fury) irresistable
&
Somewhere Here on EarthNow, I haven't been getting my share lately and this songs sets me off a-thinkin' about it. listening to it gives me a warm 1 wink

Those r the big Jams for me guitar

The album also benefits from the unpolished sound and makes prince sound almost innocent again, on 3121 he souded rather used up.

I'm kinda shocked by all the 3121 love, honestly.
Planet Earth wins by a solid grade point in my book.

Planet Earth, easily. there are no clunkers on this album for me. and the production style doesn't suck every last ounce of soul out of the songs/performances.

Prince hasn't written an album this melodic in many, many moons.

3121 is a solid Prince album with some grit. Planet Earth sounds a little mainstream in comparison. 3121 should have been a huge hit for him, but Universal only promotes a couple of albums a year. 3121 obviously wasn't one of them. Planet Earth will probably sell more(though I would be surprised if it debuted at number one like 3121) because the Viacom/Sony/BMG/MTV/BET/VH1 Hype Machine will be behind it like they were Musicology.

wow, we have completely different opinions of these 2. to me, 3121 sounds like the more mainstream effort.

I really like both albums, but "Planet Earth" is much more exciting to my ears. Could be the girls and the guitars.

Planet Earth for me, even though I haven't got an official copy yet.

I loved 3121, but I think I will be listening more often to Planet Earth. The

melodies on this album are highly infectious. I also think that as more people

have time to absorb the album, its true greatness will be realized. Time will

tell. It is definately a grower, as are all Prince albums, but perhaps more

than 3121.

I've got a guitar that can part the sea.

Planet Earth. It's the closest he's been to his 80's form in a long time. I still think he's got another gear or two and hope he continues with the path he's on..

PE is P's best since GE, maybe since Lovesexy.
3121 is a good album with plenty of bad fillers (and Tamar is awful).

Planet Earth. After taking some time from listening to both Musicology and 3121, I'd have to say I now prefer Musicology over 3121 as well.

8/8

we, presently have a tie.

Oh, & PE is many times better than the sickly GE. Tamar really isn't that bad, she's just a voice.

Planet Earth - hands down

This CD is really the best output from Prince in a long while

For me...The true test for a Prince CD has always been if I can listen to it from start to finish without skipping a track and thats exactly what I get from PE.

Could never do this with either Musicology or 3121 (even though I like them both - but only in parts not the whole thing)
