I don't quite understand you so called Prince Fans. This is not Sign o the times, that I realise, but I am listening to it for the first time in it's totality and apart from all the midnight... which admitedly is total shite, the album is upbeat, funky, rocky, funky..... it's good. You's not a real fan my friend. We all know that he is better live so do not give up on the man. Listening to Chelsea Rodgers and it really is one of the best tracks I've heard in a while. be it from Prince or not. Listening to you who say that Sleby's too present is total crap. People wake up. This stuff makes me wanna dance. Is that not what it's all about? Please all u negative fans please f off.

Dance? To which songs exactly? This really is sooo bad. Chelsea Rodgers is the only song I could bear to listen to all the way through and the funk in that is provided by somebody else than Prince. His contribution vocally is LAME. It all plays like something we've heard before, only with less soul in it. We all know he still has the ROCK in him, it was amply displayed at the Super Bowl, so what's wrong with displaying it on an album? This is "Rave Unto" watered down 10/1 and slowed down about that much. Give me P live kicking ass, but this shit makes me happy I didn't get tix for London. Agreed. I didn't think it was mindblowing the first time I heard each track but I stuck with it and continued to listen and it grows on ya and I gotta say I didn't think that would have with me. I could have given up on it after the first listen or two also and would've missed out. I don't know if you guys did or not but its sounding like some of you did. Alright! another overly nostalgic '80-'88 Prince lover, who refuses to admit that Prince has done anything creative in twenty years, 'cause they just too cool for that. I kind of agree with you, they have to be some of the most boring repetitive vocal lines he's ever come up with. It's like he dialled it in.

Well, of course it's not to going to rival his classic work like Purple Rain, Sign O The Times, Parade, Dirty Mind, or 1999, but that doesn't mean it's going to be crap. I heard this album last week om MSN and I must say that it's truly a grower on the ears. There's nothing on here that is up to classic status or memorable, but it's impressive material. Lyrically, much of the material is weak and I was definitely disappointed by the craft and the stylistic innovation he put in some of the songs. But I believe he has made an "alright" effort with Planet Earth, he just needed a little more push and ambition. Last year's 3121 is still my contender for the best album he's made this decade. It isn't a matter of living in the past. This isn't the 80's or 90's anymore. We all are aware of that. So, for those of you who seem to enjoy riding that train...get off at the next stop. That horse is dead...stop beating it.

He hasnt done anything "creative" since 2003. I for one am waiting for him to let go of his past. Im just notv that interested in these pop CDs, they'll keep me interested for little time.

I seriously wanna know why people have the need to after almost every new album make a thread saying they hate the new album and that Prince is history. I wouldn't wanna be in a relationship with you. If I did silly little things you don't approve of you'd dump me or what? It's music guys, music. It's very important, but some of you take it way too seriously if you dump an artist just because you don't like his new stuff.

I have 2 admit I was a bit shock on the first listen of Planet Earth. But then it was a horrible version of the album. Chelsea Rodgers was of course an instant classic for me; I loved Somewhere Here On Earth and Future Baby Mama on first listen as well. All great songs! But check this out...I hated 'All The Midnights' and I thought about it...is thisa song so unlike any Prince song I had ever heard? No. Then 'Starfish And Coffee' came to mind. Now I can't stop putting 'Midnights' on repeat, great harmonies. I'm an old school hardcore fan of Prince...I've been through the ups and downs. It took me a while to absorb some of Prince greatest albums..Purple Rain for example. But after a few listens I have found the gems in all of Princes releases, Planet Earth is no exception. And though I have a excellent version of the album right now....I be in the store getting my real release of Planet Earth. Don't u want to come , 3121. It's gonna be so much fun, 3121. That's where the party be, 3121. Y'all can come if u want to, but u can never leave!

I feel ya! I still need to get into Midnights, but I really did not like Lion of Judah at first, I thought it was horrible. But then I decided to actually listen to it without doin' anything else and after that I changed my mind about the song completely. It rocks Just like you I loved SHOE and FBM the first time I heard them. Jazzy slow tunes like SHOE are always great to me and FBM is simple one of the best slow jams coming from that man in years. PE does not disappoint me at all. Once again: Thanks P!

I'm done with him. See y'all in chat I'm actually done with people like you, buddy. I happen to love the new disc, but even if I didn't, the guy has nothing left to proove. This is his 24th studio album. He has done more creatively and artistically then most artists could only dream of doing in ten lifetimes. He's in the freakin' Hall of Fame. And I'm just talking studio. Live is a whole other story. So if you're done with him, why don't you jump on the JT bandwagon or something. I'm sure he has some Rolling Stones covers you can start collecting. I've got a guitar that can part the sea.

I'm sure he has some Rolling Stones covers you can start collecting. Wow, you're really clueless - Prince has NEVER had to prove ANYTHING to ANYBODY at ANY time. The issue is that we KNOW that he can still break out great performances so why can't he do it on an album? Having experimented creatively and artistically in the past doesn't mean you can go to bed and turn out albums like P's doing now. If the creativity has gone, if his inspiration for albums is gone (and it certainly seems so since the last 3 albums have been from the same mold), why put out more? Why not wait until the inspiration comes back? Listen, really LISTEN, to his voice on this album - there is no longer any passion. The passion only appears LIVE and that's what he should do then, for his own peace of mind - NOT to prove anything to anybody. As for JT, he's got more passion in one line of one of his songs NOW than Prince does NOW. It's all about NOW, not what was before. This is what saddens me the most about this album, most of 3121 and whatever came before that - that there's no passion in his voice. It sounds like what it is - a day at the office. A tired-ass Monday at 5.20pm when you just wanna go home. Welcome to the world, my nephew - Mio http://prince.org/msg/100/322798
