Fans line up outside Macy's for the 'Ultimate Prince Xperience'

Fans line up outside Macy's for the 'Ultimate Prince Xperience'

Thanks to a stage towel she snagged during one of Prince's Las Vegas shows this winter - which she now keeps preserved in a Ziploc bag - Julie Lyons of Blaine has a pretty good idea of how Prince smells when he's performing.

So how does the Purple One's new 3121 fragrance compare?

"It's not exactly the same, but it's close," Lyons said. "I do like it, and I'll definitely wear it. I don't want to have to start washing my sheets in it - but I might."

Lyons was first in line this morning at Macy's in downtown Minneapolis to purchase what's been dubbed the "Ultimate Prince Xperience." It includes a custom T-shirt, two bottles of 3121 perfume and a ticket to Prince's July 7 Target Center show. But what drove Lyons and hundreds of other fans to line up downtown was the final part of the package, a ticket to see an exclusive Prince show for 1,400 on Macy's eighth floor a few hours before the Target Center gig.
The package went on sale at 10 a.m. today and the only place to purchase it was in person at Macy's. Lyons showed up at 6 a.m. Thursday to secure her place in line with two fellow fans who flew into town for the chance to pick up tickets, Kim Simpson of Detroit and Eleanor Garcia from Oakland, Calif. Combined, the trio have seen Prince perform hundreds of times.

"It's been great, like a family reunion," said Simpson, whose perky attitude masked the fact that she'd spent the past 27-some hours camped out on a sidewalk.

We offered fans waiting in line a sample spritz of 3121 to gauge their reaction to the scent, which will go on sale to the general public on July 7. Publicity materials describe it as a blend of about a dozen distinct fragrances including bergamot, jasmine, gardenia and patchouli.
"It starts out floral," said Garcia. "I like it once it settles in and gets a little more spicy."

Floral was the most common description among those who sampled 3121, which is marketed toward women.

"It's really refreshing," said 25-year-old Marie Walter from Minneapolis. "But I want the total effect. I want to see him, smell him and hear him. I want him to sweat on me."
North Carolina's Barbara Leonard echoed that sentiment: "Yes, yes, yes. It captures home for me, and when I say home, I mean Paisley Park. It's like heaven on earth."

Not everyone was quite as enthusiastic.

Darin Rowles of Minneapolis wrinkled his nose after taking a whiff. "It seems a little busy," he said. "And it should not be worn by a man. But, then again, I have been up all night."

His friend Carrie Simi, a moderator on the popular fan Web site Prince.org, was equally reserved. "I was expecting something a little more subtle," she said. "I think my mom will like it, though."

Heather Carlson of Independence and Mary Tereick of Lino Lakes said they figured it would be a little more exotic, spicy and sensual.

"Flowers," said Carlson, while sniffing her wrist. "No, orchids. That's it, orchids."

Tereick took a whiff and concluded it's a good summer scent.

But will they wear it?

"I would wear it because it's from Prince," Carlson said. "If you love Prince, you'll wear it."

Is this perfume going to be sold at all Macy's across the country? If so I may have to make a trip to my local Macy's and check it out. Maybe see if I can talk my friend into letting me have one of those gorgeous posters. If I get that, I'll never leave my house. lol

Macy's is selling tickets by phone now too. They're calling the waiting list, but if you call the hotline, maybe you'll get hooked up too!
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

Doesn't sound like it smells that great lol
I find it interesting why someone who smells as heavanly as Prince creates perfumes which most people don't seem to like. He of all people should know what a good perfume is.

By all rights my quote SHOULD have been sooooo much worse, cos I said some pretty snarky things initially. And I was the one who said that my mom would like it.
