Prince to play 21 London concerts Via BBC.com
Prince will play his first gig at the O2 arena in London on 1 August
US performer Prince is to play 21 concerts in London this summer, his only European dates of the year. He is to spend a week at the O2 arena - formerly the Millennium Dome - with tickets priced at £31.21, a reference to his album 3121. He will also play at a number of far smaller venues to make seeing him "affordable for everybody". The 48-year-old, known for hits such as Kiss and Raspberry Beret, has prepared 150 songs to perform on the tour. And he hopes to be joined on stage by soul singer Amy Winehouse, having declared himself a big fan. "I love London," he explained at a press launch. "I've had some of my favourite shows here." An "extended stay" had been arranged because during his last tour in London - in October 2002 - "a lot of people didn't get to see me". Prince - who famously changed his name to a squiggle symbol in the 1990s after falling out with his record label - added that he would be house-hunting in the British capital. "As soon as I leave here I'm going to look for a place to live," he told journalists. Tickets for the O2 arena gigs, the first of which will be on 1 August, go on sale on Friday at 0900 BST. I guess this'll silence the doubters! If the BBC reports it, they get in serious shit if its not true - remember the Hutton Enquiry? - so this is good news! And if he's looking for a home, maybe some Londoners will see him hanging around the streets like those in Beverly Hills do!

This is what the Guardian newspaper has to say Prince to play an unprecedented 21 shows in London this summer The first seven nights of the Earth Tour will take place at the 02 Arena. Tickets - which will cost £31.21 and include a copy of the artist's new album - go on sale Friday Caspar Llewellyn-Smith Tuesday May 8, 2007 Guardian Unlimited The summer gig schedule is already full to bursting point, but Prince today announced that he will play an unprecedented 21 shows in London, starting with seven nights at the O2 Arena on 1 August. In breaking with a trend that will see fans pay up to £500 to see Barbara Streisand in concert, ticket prices have been set at £31.21 - a reference to the title of his last album - for which fans will also receive a copy of the 48-year-old singer's as-yet-untitled new studio LP. Tickets for what is billed as the "Earth Tour" go on sale on Friday, May 11. Contrary to reports, Prince will not be playing his greatest hits "for the last time". Instead, fans can expect to hear a mix of material, including a version of the Beatles' The Long and Winding Road. Briefly answering questions at the tour's launch in cental London, the singer also said that he was a huge fan of Amy Winehouse and planned a cover of her song Love Is A Losing Game, with the intention of inviting her on stage at one of his shows. During a recent residency with his band in Las Vegas, the Purple Rain singer claims to have rehearsed a total of 150 songs. Following a video montage celebrating his career, purple curtains parted and the singer walked on stage dressed head to foot in white, with a purple shirt and sunglasses. As well as saying that he wanted to release his new album in this new way as a form of "direct marketing, so I don't have to be in the speculation business of the music industry", he revealed that he is taking inspiration at the moment from "prophets from the Bible". He added that he is looking for somewhere to live in London for the duration of his residency, and said that he liked Earl's Court - a reference to previous concerts he has played there. Prince's last US tour in 2005 was the highest-grossing of the year. The London shows will be his only European apperances this summer, and his last in the UK "for a while". Prince said that afterwards he planned "to travel and study the Bible". Prince has not played a UK arena for at least ten years.

Planning to travel? do u think that Prince has finally managed of shake off the curse of music and its creation that has haunted and controlled his life for most of his career. Perhaps now he is going to begin living.

Sounds like Europe's got a great deal right now. I'm still waiting on him to go back on tour, since I enjoyed his Musicology shows thoroughly. Definitely not something to miss out on over there. Ooh, little darlin' if you're

I can't believe the Amy Winehouse part--Prince would never put up with her behavior such as getting drunk and blowing off shows.

Besides, she'd sell more tickets in London than he would at the moment. I guess I mis-read the article. I thought it was saying she was gonna tour with him, but it looks like more of a one-off thing for a duet.

Oh, please do shut up about your faith for once, Prince. You're promoting your tour, that's what people are interested in. Coming across as a religious nutter will not help you fill that venue for 21 shows. Personally I'd be more impressed if he came out saying he'd read something that WASN'T the Bible. Maybe he'd find something more intelligent to say in his music than the usual meaningless quasi-spiritual drivel. Yes yes, we all get it, he wants to come across as a deep, profound, spiritual person. Why's he still going on about it?

If he was truly at peace, he wouldn't feel the need to mention how "spiritual" he is at every opportunity. I'll be thankful when he plays some music and keeps his religion to himself for a change.
