I have to listen to it again ...
but I only remember calling "HEY - HEY" during "Blues in C" on the beat, but because of the accoustics of the concert-hall it's getting less and less simultaneous

So when were they shouting "Holland"? It's been a while since I've watched the whole thing on tape.

I’m sure that the crowd is yelling Holland just before "Anna Stesia".
I’m pretty sure that it happens in the break before Alphabet St. but I’m not sure if this is edited on the VHS / Laserdisc / boot DVD’s (LoveSexy Uncut could make it clear)

Well, you could do worse than Minneapolis. Everytime he comes to town he does a few sold out shows and then we caravan from downtown to see him at Paisley Park. It's kind of the Ultimate Prince experience.

Gosh I wish I was into Prince during those days. It would have been cool to travel to Minnie, see a concert then an aftershow at PP.
Y'all that got to experience this is really lucky!

You guys are prolly aware of this, but there's an oldish radio thing where he alludes to having a special love for Detroit, calling you guys his "motor babies". It's kinda sweet. If i remember correctly he leaves some message for his Detroit fans recorded backwards as well. This is a 100 years ago tho so I don't remember all details.

Motor baby in the house! wave

and it is true that Detroit LOVES Prince and from what I have heard, the feeling is mutual. I guess way back in the day, Prince would debut a lot of stuff on Detroit radio, and there was a DJ who had the mothership show who would play Prince's new album in its entirety... every time a new album was released.... not just now when it is cool to like Prince but back in "dirty mind" era.
What is the DJ's name??? Can't think of it right now.

I remember the details...gosh darnit!!!
YES! The best city to see a Prince concert is Detroit!! The love affair between Prince and Detroit dates back to his early days when he couldn't even BUY airtime. Detroit's favorite DJ...the one...the only...Electrifying Mojo had us rocking to Prince waaaayyyyy before the rest of the world caught on.

Prince, himself...christened us his "little Motorbabies"...live...on the air during a surprise call to Mojo after one of his many sold out shows here. There's a transcript of that call floating around the net. A kind soul on this board, whose name I will not mention...so don't ask...sent me a cd of that broadcast. It's one of the most valued pieces in my collection.

Detroit loves Prince and Prince loves Detroit!!!

thanks, i should have read the next post.

yup its' The D. (Detroit). it's why he's shouts us out on Dance On (Lovesexy). Even Morris caught on in The Walk where he says, i want all of Detroit city to stand up, clap your hands...

We get EVERY domestic tour, and even surprise gigs like his famous b-day show at Cobo. The Electrifyin Mojo set it off way back in the day fa sho! He'd play the extendeds, and even play stuff back to back to back. True radio pioneer. i miss "real radio" (sigh). i remember hearing his interview with Prince on the air! talk about a rare treat. And he knows he HAS to come to the city, and NOT the Palace of Auburn Hills. if he does, he has to do both. it's about The Joe or Cobo. He played 7 Purple Rain shows at The Joe. Insane!

And talks about the Detroit Crawl!
wink

What Up Doe, Dat?

Did Prince take "Purple Rain" tour overseas? Did he take his 2000-2001 "hit 'n run" tour overseas? Did the tour for "1999" go overseas? I was just wondering.....

Hope you didn't spend too much time looking that up.
You realise that when Prince was at his most interesting, he hardly toured the US at all, right?
Not Prince's fault tho ... when Prince went heavy Avant Garde after Purple Rain, the US audience stopped understanding and Europe started listening. Saw a lot of Lovesexy shows? I didn't think so.

Yeah back-to-back nights in Oakland plus and aftershow in SF as a matter of fact.
