What his face each time Mayte speaks. Especially when Oprah asks about their baby to both of them. His eyes twitch. It's like he's looking at her and thinkng "Bitch, you betta remember dem linez I taught you."

He knew that child was dead but never let on, I see Prince did all the talking when asked about the baby. He covers his pain with his music but I think it was harder for Mayte to go thru that.

With our culture, and men not expressing emotion as much as women, the fact he didn't break down is amazing. Maybe privately he did. That interview must have been extremely difficult to get through.

He sure is controlling but you can do that to a someone who was basically a child herself, because I don't know any mature woman who would have even participated in that charade on national TV. It was sad all the way around and at some point you have to say FUCK the show, sometimes it doesn't have to go on. Although, I felt sorry for him and his pain, to some degree I lost respect because of the Oprah fiasco. It made him look crazy and insensitive when everyone found out the child had already died. So why do the interview???? Made no sense. But oh well, I guess he had his reason.

She was 23 in 1996 (when that interview took place).
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Knowing what happened to their child, it's hard to watch that interview now. I will agree that seeing him so vulnerable, shy and friendly was quite a shock. Overall, I think it helped improve the public's perception of him. But, all the talk of his name change probably left some eyes rolling. Oh well, Prince will always be a little strange, won't he? That's why I love him. wink

Maybe in years but not in maturity, she's even said so herself. Did ya'll know that Madonna's daughter was born the same day as Prince and Mayte's child? But their baby was a month premature I think. I always thought that was a strange coincidence considering that Prince and Madonna are a few months apart and their history together.

I wonder why they agreed to be interviewed so soon after such an anticipated birth that turned out so painful? I wanted Ophra to just back off any hint of asking about it.

Prince/Mayte Era is my favorite We got to see him Like ourselves, In Love married & expecting a child. He was so Human back then.

My Son was born in 96 as well so Gregory would be 11 this October.

Maybe God knew Prince & Mayte were going to split and it was better for Gregory to stay With God.

That whole situation made me Love Mayte & Prince even More,In a strange way like I appreciated Hillary when she Stood My Bill when he got caught cheating. Perhaps if she was older then she would have been able to overcome marriage difficulties and accept her role as a rock n roll wife.

I'm a sucker for love & forgiveness.

We all want a big hit again because
we want to relive the Hysteria & Pandemonium we experienced
when Purple Rain was Hot. Actually, he doesn't care if it happens again or not.

I think he deals with Pain by doing 'business as usual.' I believe he also did a print interview around the same time so he must have had interviews lined up and decided not to cancel them.
