Hmmm, not sure what to make of this. Just downloaded it after cursing at 3121.com for an hour or so after entering my credit card details 3x only to reach an error screen (Livewire, it looks like you had the same issue). I didn't read anything here before downloading, so I was thrown off by it being a pop song, not heavy-guitar, but someone predicted earlier that it would sound more like Vavoom or Peach than Endorphinmachine or Fury, and they were right. This could have been an NPG Music Club download from year 1 (Vavoom probably is really the closest comparison from Prince's past).

After 3 listens, this is definitely catchy and I think I will find myself singing it to myself and playing it on my iPod a lot over the coming days, but it's nothing he hasn't done before, and doesn't add anything new to the Prince canon of work.

The bass reminds me so much of Do It All Night I thought it was going to launch into that at any moment...

Anyone else find it interesting that he's selling it as an unrestricted MP3 (192kb), not as a DRM-file like the Musicology download store sold stuff as?

On an unrelated note, I'm saddened that he's selling it for $1.99. He was selling songs to members for 77c not too long ago have they lost the membership list? Considering he won't sell on iTunes because they take a percentage of a 99c sale, I would think he could sell this for 99c, or thereabouts - why such a steep price? Because the unrestricted nature of the MP3 means people are going to share it?

There's nothing but bone here, nothing to sink your teeth into this one. Repeated listens would drive me crazy because musically, you get the idea after the first 15 seconds and lyrically, whew, I really am starting to wonder if the well hasn't run dry for the man.

Blew me away with yesterday's performance and I'm sure he will Sunday too, when he, you know, actually plays guitar and backs it up with a full sound via his band.

Finally got the song...and I can definitely see him playing this on Sunday,
a nice pop number w/nice tag line...:"I love u baby, but not like I love my guitar"....This has a lot of potential to be even better live! He will definitely put more guitar in it when playing live....guaranteed!

It's groovy, but I think there could be more done with the arrangement. Lyrics about gettin down at the club, jumping the the car, gettin the call, etc, etc. We've heard it all before. Lets hope this is one of the filler tracks on the new album!

Listen to Young and Beautiful from One Nite Alone (piano album) then listen to this....very similar feel.

it's cool but it doesn't knock me out. the name threw me off a bit cause i was expecting, and shame on me expecting anything from Prince , a hard rock song. fooled me good. i will say and murph said the same thing earlier in the thread, that the production is great. it sounded fresh and i was feeling that.

I like it..... The lyrics have some sarcastic humor with the hint of a bittersweet read-between-the-lines msg to it, very Prince-like, and a catchy tune and danceable.

First, just like to say thanks, for those who helped out.
This new song, like a many P songs, are slow burners. Give it time. Let it be.
It's very similar, form wise, to his very early material. Feel 4 U, When U Were Mine, etc. And there is some nice "licks" towards the end. Ground breaking, no, rewarding after repeated listenings, yes.

Glad to see I'm not the only one that thinks "Guitar" would fit in with the Dirty Mind/Controversy era (musically, not lyrically) as I've seen several comparisons to "Do It All Night" (especially in the bassline and synth riffs). For the record, I happen to love the song as an update of Prince's early eighties sound without any hip-hop pretensions. Of course, I must be lying because only people who hate the song are "honest", right?

I liked it immediately. It's got a breezy 1980's b-side feel, which is kind of fun. And it sounds like vintage Prince in a throw away mood, which is kind of when I like him best. This track has not been over produced or done to death. It sounds fresh.


We all should have known better than to expect a ripsnorting guitar track, but having said that the guitar solos in it are pretty amazing.

I really like it. It definately puts me in mind of his older music. I was expecting a little more rock and roll, but I'm pleased with it nonetheless.

I think if it were on The Truth, it would fit in. It has many Prince influences like Girls and Boys, Lolita, and fascination. I like it.

What would be hilarious would be if this song ended up Fury style at the Super Bowl and he offered it as another DL on Monday. Imagine the furor as each fam clicked "purchase" for the version they really wanted.

It took me a little bit of 4hours but i finally downloaded the song.
I love the song the moment i heard it. Good grove, nice melody, finally a song for the masses. Can't wait for the album.
