HAVE YOU BEEN A PRINCE FAN SINCE 1978?

When you first heard "SOFT AND WET" radio for the first time, did you fall in love with his music and sound? Or, since you first heard "SEXY DANCER" or "I WANNA BE YOUR LOVER" in 1979, was that you moment you stepped into his Paisley Park( pardon the cheesy pun have you been a fan for the last 28 yrs of Prince?

Let me tell you, if I was around at the time, I would have been! Unfortunately, I was born 4 years later. I love hearing stories from folks who have been with P since the beginning. It's better than any VH1 special, that's for sure.

Anyone who says they were fans since then are most likely lying. He didn't sell 500,000 copies of that album. It flopped, like most first albums, his next album was the start of his real audience building.

I have been a fan since March 21, 1983 when I saw him at Radio City Music Hall for the 1999 tour.

Yes I have. I thought it was a woman who sang soft and wet, until he appeared on cover of Right On magazine

I have alot of respect for the old-schoolers on here...growing up to Prince's music must have been quite an experience.

I've been a fam 4 as long as I can remember! Don't really know what music was like b4 I discovered the 1 and only Prince!

I memba seein' him in Right On! mag...centerfold...with the fro and leather jacket. Soft n' Wet was out and I was 10 years old.

Wow, I can't remember when I first became a fan. I was only three years old when For You was released, but I do remember seeing him performing I Wanna Be Your Lover and falling in love!! It was over by that point. I know that by the time I was eight years old, I was a hardcore, full-fledged fan, because I relentlessly begged my mother to take me to see Purple Rain when I was nine. After seeing the movie I remember my twin sister asking our 17-year-old brother what grinding was.

Purple Rain was the first album I ever owned. My mom bought it for me at Zayre (Do you Chicago peeps remember that store?). Then I would go with my allowance and buy all his other ones. That was before parental advisory laws.

I always tell people that I was a Prince fan before I learned to mulitply and divide. I know that much is true.

I have been a fan since Dirty Mind and then learned about the music made before that, and have been a fan every since, it's all I listen too!!!!

I attended the "1999"show in 1982 because my little sister really liked him.I was very shy as a teenager and really felt like an outsider.This concert made me a lifetime Prince fan and gave me the courage to be different.LOVE LIFE LOVESEXY:)

I first noticed Prince by hearing I wanna Be Your Lover on AM radio ( I had the cutest little Snoopy radio....)- but I was only about 11. Also liked Controversy, and began really paying attention with 1999. But, I became a hardcore fan from the very moment that I first heard When Doves Cry-a moment I still remember clear as day all these years later. I was almost 16. Went on to see Purple Rain like 8 or 9 times in the theatre that summer, and went back and bought all the older material immediately. I've been here ever since.

funny to see this post, as I've been thinking about that time a lot the past few days as I get ready to leave for Vegas- I'm expecting this trip to truly be the best Prince experience of my life- topping anything I've seen/done before!!

and I have to add, without a doubt- becoming a Prince fan at the age of barely 16 had a massive impact on who I came to be as a person on so many levels.

No,I was around but I didn't get into Prince until the Purple rain era.
