Prince's camp is alienating fans again! Or is this already being discussed here? They were reportedly ordered to take off ALL their photography.

Photos are all copyrighted/owned by someone or other. That person has the right to insist such things (though whether they should or not is another issue... certainly I feel people think everything on the internet is free and up-for-grabs when it is not, and therefore should not be surprised when such things catch up with them). I wouldn't be surprised if they have been simply asked to credit photos, as happens here and on other websites.

I'd like to see copies of what exactly was sent to the princefams folks... they seem like good people, obviously hoping to promote Prince and his endeavors via their site, and running ANY fansite is a ton of fairly thankless work. It's tricky, though, if there was something in particular (copyright offenses for example) that are within Prince's right to argue about, that should be respected.

Now, generally speaking, I think he's dead wrong from a practical, business, marketing, and even moral standpoint to attack fans and sites they put blood, sweat, tears, and money into maintianing, as he is likely the greatest benefactor of those efforts and expenditures, but we can't ignore legitimate legal requests. Even challenging illegitimate ones isn't always successful, if Prince is willing to pay big bucks to get "better" lawyers (e.x., the Uptown case).

If I understand correctly (and I'm not sure I do), the princefams folks were previously responsible for putting some video material Prince arguably owned copyright to, on YouTube and linking to it from their site--and were asked to remove it, and did comply with the request. I'm not sure the nature of this subsequent request but as I said, I'd like to know more details.

No matter what, it's never boring in Prince-fan-land, especially if you try to "help" the community. Let's see what happens...

I agree with Prince and NPG. Copyrights r HOLY so Prince had the complete right 2 allow or deny the use of pictures and other things.

Princefams aint a so friendly and nice site, so I dont mind whats going on.

I think in this day an age its getting scary when the internet cannot be used for people/fans who want to discuss/show a person who they feel has influenced them enough to put fingers to a keyboard and express themselves enough - just to get it thrown back into their face.....

Sorry Prince's camps approach to his audience and fam(s) is just plain stupid. A fan of his music, always. I find it very hard to be a fan of his approach to business and people who try to appreciate him. He sounds like he has a lot of personal issues to work out, too bad for us his fans are one of his issues, what a JERK!

I'd like to know why he's doing this to his long life fans? I'd like to hear more about it.
