My favorite artist of all time has gotten his just due. Congrats to Mr. Nelson. He is on a hot streak right now with music and awards. This album will be a definite classic 10,15,20 years from now. I'm hoping he can get at least one award. Hopefully the best R&B album award because it's unfair to pick one song of this great collection of material. Anyway, luv ya and congrats and welcome to the dawn.
Peace and be wild!

So it looks like Prince is in the running for 5 Grammy awards this year! woot!

Black Sweat is nominated in the Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song categories.

3121 the song is nominated in the Best Urban/Alternative Performance category.
(What does that even mean?)

3121 the album is nominated in the Best R&B Album category.

Beautiful Loved and Blessed is nominated for the Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group.

Hilarious. It's Jethro Tull winning "Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance Vocal Or Instrumental" all over again.

It's not like this year's nominations are full of highly resonant acts that will echo through the decades. Those Prince nods are nice but the reason they are not great has more to do with the low relevance of the Grammies themselves than his own.

Wow, very cool! He will at least win Best R&B album, cause the other 4 in that category are pretty weak.

The FACT that someone like Alicia Keys has more Grammies than Prince leaves me with the idea that a Grammy win is sort of meaningless.

i agree with what most have said, that Prince will probably win one, two at best. i do think Crazy will win it's category. Black Sweat should be in a category of its own as the funkiest joint of the year. A live performance of Love would be dope! i agree with the sister who suggested dancers on roller skates too. He should use the Grammy's and the Super Bowl to absolutely KILL!

Im finding that im getting really bored with Prince winning awards for stuff that I dont find very intersesting or relevant to his work anymore...

Too many awards and not enough development of late, me thinks....

When is the next european tour? when is the next album from the heart? when is he gonna jump off the "popularity bandwagon" and let the creative juices flow again?

Grammys? who really gives a shit? Its a ceremony designed to honour what the kids of today enjoy. How many of us are kids anymore? When did Prince last care what the youth think about his music?

I find that the excitement on the org over awards and tv appearances is becoming the norm, and the real interest just doesnt make too many appearances anymore.

anyway, im quite plastered so i'll leave it there and atone for my sins tomorrow when i realise what tosh im talkin'.....

but it would be nice if we hadsome news regarding something creative and not fkhgvkhfvjhcjhbnlk,m, yeah?

It's cool he's nominated, but they are in minor categories that will receive little exposure. It's been the same the last few times he's been nominated. I personally think the Gnarls album is weak overall. One of the best songs(Gone Daddy Gone) is a Violent Femmes cover. "Crazy" is a catchy song, but Prince has been around for almost 30 years and hasn't won a Grammy in any major category. That is very lame when you consider who has won Grammys in major categories. It's basically a "one hit wonder" list: Alanis(1 legitimate hit album), Lauryn Hill(1 legitimate hit album), Norah Jones(1 hit album, second album sold well but no hit singles and a poorly received tour), Milli Vanilli(need I say more). I think there are over 20 Grammys combined for these artists. You can check there lackluster output online if you don't believe me.
Alas, Prince is in good company. The same idiot Grammy people who gave Lionel Richie Album of the Year over the 6 month number 1 "Purple Rain" album, are the same one's who ignored The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Elvis their entire careers. Once the artists pass away(or members pass away) they give out token awards every other year(you can check this also).
What's even more pathetic is that I would almost guarantee the Album of the Year is going to be the Prince wannabe "Future Sex Love Sounds" release.

Nothing, in my mind, will ever make up for Joshua Tree winning over SOTT. In hindsight, it was an oversight, however good JT was, Time is the most recent media outlet to recognize it as the finest album of the 1980's. I still don't watch the Grammys except for 1) when Prince opened in '04, and 2) when Sly performed this year.

and you should have skipped #2 biggrin

but anyway, IN 1987, Joshua Tree WAS the bigger and today by fans and the public alike, than it was then.

Undoubtedly. But I was in a sizeable minority that felt SOTT was and is the better album then. The Pazz and Jop poll and several other polls around that time had SOTT listed as the best album that year.
