Stupid Question...

Why doesnt Prince just release a new CD ?

Why is he still playing the CD/every year
thing like when he was signed?

Whats it gonna prove if he has to come up with some marketing technique to sell CDs
that wont sell on their own?

when Prince meant "Free the Music" he meant Free from any contractual obligations and being able to put out what ya want as an artist and not being bound by any person or people who dont know anything about music control your art.

you might be half right, but not quite
think back to 1994-1995
Gold Experience, Exodus, and his work with other artists
WB slapped the cuffs on tight

Nothing sells on its own.
Name one CD (brilliant or not) that many here have heard of, that has no marketing behind it.

I'd like the next CD to not have any gimmicks.

C&D/The Vault: Contractual Obligation
Emancipation: 3-disc set of new material, which is rare in music
Crystal Ball: free "The Truth" (which I love) and "Kamasutra"
Rave: a prince that was "produced" by Prince
Musicology: Concert giveaway counted as sales
3121: Willy Wonka-like Purple Ticket

If he did EXACTLY the same promotion for 3121 that he did EXCEPT for the purple ticket thing....how many copies wouldve sold? do I have to say it...?

If he promoted TRC like a MFer--wouldnt matter--people wouldnt have picked up on the vibe anyway--because they idiots

How do you know that the "purple ticket" had much impact. I wouldn't pick up a CD for that alone. Anyway, you forget, he didn't really promote 3121 the right way, it always seemed to be coated with Milk & Honey.
