Prince 3121 Cuisine, Press Conference and Mini Concert Review 4 11/08

http://www.thebumpsquad.com

This review was done by Latin Diva, the bump Squad's Violet Brown from Las
Vegas.

So I get the invite from a local Vegas hot spot magazine with just enough time 2
do my work out and get dressed 2 the 9's.

I arrive shortly after 5:31 and oh my god! The restaurant is gorgeous....6
course menu with wine paring. Along with a lot of Vegas big wigs, Robin Leach
was in attendance. The food was great and a very impressive lay out. Where the
hostess will be is a eye on the podium itself and the menu's have the 3121
design on it.

A dessert was brought out for all of us, and even that had a 3121 design on it.

After dinner, after 8:21 we head over to Club 3121 and let me tell you....this
place is VERY high profile. Every magazine and local news crew is here. (So
local affiliates in the states should be covering it on your local channels.)
Now, an interesting note, some of Vegas's most biggest players were standing in
line waiting to get in and after getting in, made a beeline for the booths.
Basically, the dance floor was wide open to the stage. I think the
"purpleheadz" will make sure that does not happen on Friday.

The owner of Rio came out and talked a bit about the club and the venture
bringing one of the biggest music stars of all time to Vegas and took questions
from the press.

DJ Rashida was spinning on the ones n two's the funky melody's before and after
the funky one from Minneapolis took the stage.

Then it was time for the one and only Prince to come out and perform.

Prince came out and performed with his band and the Twinz. He performed a
rip-roaring version of "Fury" that led into "Purple Rain" and ended with "Let's
Go Crazy" to a standing ovation.

Prince was supposed to perform again later on but it did not happen but he was
seen walking around his club for some time later.

It was fun, funky, and fabulous. And I can't wait for this Friday cuz this
taste sure was enough to wet my appetite but sure was not enough to fill me up.

LD

(Thanks 2 Latin Diva 4 the Review. C u Friday.-j7)

LAS VEGAS (Reuters) - Purple was the color and Prince was the star on Wednesday as the eccentric musician launched a nightclub venture that will see him performing twice a week in Las Vegas.

Prince, 48, the sometimes reclusive singer, composer and producer with a penchant for surprises, is taking up residence in the desert gambling resort for an indefinite period, playing at the Rio Hotel in the 3121 club -- named after his 2006 hit album.

"I like Las Vegas," said a peach-suited Prince, during a sneak peek three song set featuring his signature wailing guitar solos and the 1984 hit "Purple Rain" that made him a superstar. The regular Friday and Saturday night shows start on November 10 and tickets at $125 are already sold out for the first weekend.

Prince himself has given few clues as to why, and why now, he has chosen to set up shop in Las Vegas amidst the topless dancers, magicians, Cirque du Soleil spectaculars and crooners such as Barry Manilow and Celine Dion who have also set up semi-permanent residence on the Strip.

A rare giver of interviews, he appointed his Australian twin backup singer-dancers, known as The Twinz, as his official spokespersons on Wednesday. "He wants to bring raw, live music back to Las Vegas. He wants a more positive vibe," Maya Mcclean, one of The Twinz, told reporters.

Prince is regarded as a perfectionist who from 1993 to 2000 changed his name to an unpronounceable symbol in what was thought to be a protest against the demands of his record label at the time. For a while he was dubbed "The Artist Formally Known as Prince."

But the intimate 3121 club, decked in purple and seating 900, will be under his sole artistic control. An adjacent restaurant, 3121 Jazz Cuisine, is being run by Prince's personal chef.

"This is his vision. This is his room. This is his club," said John Meglen, president of AEG Live which is backing the venture.

"The one thing about this town that Prince realizes is that if you go back to the Fifties, to the days of Frank Sinatra and
Tony Bennett, Las Vegas was a place where all the world wide great musicians came out and played," Meglen said.

"There is no-one more high energy than Prince. You're not going to see any lip synching on this stage," Meglen said.

After more than 20 albums, the versatile Prince emerged from self-imposed obscurity in 2004 with a lucrative tour and performances in 2006 at the Brit awards, TV's "American Idol" and "Saturday Night Live."

He is expected to stay in Vegas for several months. Or as Twinz spokesperson Maya Mcclean said "until he figures out what he wants to do next."

125 Dollars per night...

I remember when it cost about 30 Dollars to see the man perform live, and a roaring 2,5 hours of show we got...

But that is Vegas for you. But hey, if I would live in the US, I would probably go anyways biggrin

Yeah Baby... Isn't that what I said, when everyone was all dissin' hard on Vegas? Sure, now it's like Disneyland, but back in the day... it was R.A.W.

Thanks for the reviews. It's pretty exciting that Prince is doing this whole thing and I'm happy about it. But on a selfish note, I WANNA GO!!!!! Nothing is impossible, but at this point it doesn't look like it'll be happening for me.

Keep the reviews coming of what goes on for those of us who can't get to this new Prince experience smile

Thanks 4 the thank u's and u r welcome...but....

Latin Diva did the reporting. All I advised was to take a notepad and text me when she could and had a brief discussion for a final run through, so I guess I played editor.

I do hope to write reviews/reports of this weekends shows, time permitting.

Interesting in the article, Prince mentions that 3121 is just a number, not a Biblical reference ...

Also, does anyone know who was in the band for this new show?
