if anyone remembers the vault on npgmc, you may have noticed that Prince along with a number of other albums, rubber stamped COME as a 'Contractual Obligation;! I found this shocking and unjust, as i believe COME to be one of Prince's best albums he was made. Prince was a contractually obliged to deliver an album. You enjoyed the album. There's no contradiction. . ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

I think Prince likes to simply show how great he is, and even the "contractual obligation" records are great. Like "this old thing? It's just something I threw on!"

Love this album. At first I was so-so about it, but it's become one of my faves. I listen to it about every other week...

I found this shocking and unjust, as i believe COME to be one of Prince's best albums he was made. It is certainly extremely under-estimated and did not deserve the poor rviews it received at the time. I don't see how Prince can call it a contractual obligation and why he should play down the album so much. I understand 1993 was a bad year for Prince in terms of his record deal but is there anyone else that feels the same way about COME???? ..you should do that baby COme is great. I don't think that he downplayed that one, too much. It had a few singles and remixes (some of the last in his career). I don't think he wanted to call it anything. But I think he wants folks to know that it was...along with TGE, The Black ALbum, C&D and the Vault...as those were also contractual. Christian Zombie Vampires

Aslo not to mention Come is his "Death" album where he basically kills Prince. Come also was not released the way he intended it.

I think Prince did believe that TGE was better and he was steadfastedly not wanting to release it, so the WB would not bank any money from it. I think he then became aware that any of his music made at the time was WB property (hence why we have not seen any vault material given to WB over the span oif his carreer released). I think that is when he decided to get out as quick as he could and released TGE, C&D, TBA and the Vault (which contained weaker material than other vault tracks) in a quick succession. TGE is better in terms of songcraft, but the music on Come is just as good. So while Come is great music, TGE probably has more lasting appeal (& selling power) because of the more universal nature of most of the songs. I've always said that I like the "lesser albums" (Come, C&D, NPS) much sooner than the "proper albums" (TGE, Emancipation, Rave) and that they're cooler in general. But with the exception of certain songs, the "proper" albums have more staying power

The reason that Prince branded 'Come' as a 'contractual obligation' album is

I think Come is great but hey he signed the contract so he had to finish it out.

I always thought Come was "The Gold Experience pt. 2" and The Gold Experience was "Come Pt. 1".

I think he planned to release them back to back, more or less at the same time, but WB didn't like the idea of 2 disks competing against each other in the same year. yeah,I recall hearing this.In 1994,he wanted to release both albums a few weeks apart.'Come' would have been released first, followed by 'Gold'.

"Come" is a brilliant album. The firt single I heard was "letitgo" which had a feel that could have sprung from the 1970's. Laid back, cool, and infinitely decisive at the same time. I don't remember it doing much on the charts, but I remember understanding what he was saying about his life. He was about to do something unprecedented in showbiz at the time, and wasn't sure where it was going to lead. But he was willing to do it anyway, despite his hesitation or fear. What a hero! What a maverick! What a brave and confident individual.

You should be receiving my left tit iced down in one of those medical syrofoam igloo-type coolers. Careful with your hands! It's gonna be really cold!! And be good to it. It enjoys being stroked regularly, played with, pinched, twisted, and having heavy objects tied and hanging from it. One last thing: it's incredibly sarcastic. Most of my body organs are. If it bothers you, just tell it it's fat and needs to be on a diet, and it will shut up, sometimes for several moments, which is at least longer than Rosie can on the View! nuh-uh! Maybe the '94 release of it, but the album was made in '87 -'88, and not forced to be released then withdrawn by any hand but Prince's. __________________________

Quote: But the masterpiece of the 2nd half is no doubt 'Solo'. Prince does things with his voice I never thought were possilble. A friend of mine heard it one day, not knowing who it was, asked me who the woman was who sang that really sad song. I took extreme delight in telling him who it was. That song, so desperate, so lonely, almost so close to giving up forever..... haunts me and shall continue to haunt me as long as I shall live.

I was just thinking about starting a thread on this because I listen to Come about every other week and could never quite make out what was being said in the background. Awesome--and I didn't have to amputate any body parts.
