I was at the Wembley show, but missed the aftershow because I had to drive all the way back to Teesside and I was shattered, with work at 6. Was it a good show?

A great show. He seemed to be making up for the curfew at Wembley. The encore was fantastic Let's Go Crazy, She's always In My Hair, U Got The Look, Kiss, Gett Off.....

Everything I wanted from an aftershow!! cool

Also spoke with Mike Scott before the show! biggrin

I was there. I felt this was one of the weaker London aftershows. The sound system was terrible.

EIGHT years ago?

Fuck!

The Wembley concert was the first of Prince's I had ever been to and it was amazing in itself.

My friend had driven me down to London from Cheshire in an old Cortina (we were 17 & 18 at the time). We had taken my entire Prince CD collection with us and were quite worried about keeping it in the boot during the concert.

We bumped into Adrian from Madhouse mail-order before the show, having met him at a party in Staffordshire that he had been involved with some time earlier. He told us to head to the Hippodrome for an after-party. We thought we were very special and had inside information.

As soon as the Wembley performance was over a voice announced over the loudspeaker system that there would be an aftershow party at the Hippodrome. Suddenly it felt like a race to get across London before the appearance sold out. We raced across the city, asking for directions along the way, before eventually coming across it by chance and paying an amount for parking that would be inconceievable where we had come from.

When we got to the Hippodrome we were worried that we would not get in as there were posters all around advertising that the Artist was playing there tonight for a ticket-price similar to what we had paid for the Wembley show. We did get in and it turned out to be the best ticket money we ever spent.

My only recollection from the venue before Prince came out to perform (apart from the dancing girls in cages) is of the DJ playing Got Til It's Gone by Janet Jackson. Now the song always reminds me of that night (and is the best thing she ever recorded, in my opinion).

I was totally amazed at the evening's setlist. I had a few recordings of earlier aftershow concerts but I was not prepared for the fantastic show that was about to occur. Crowd-pleasers like Kiss and Gett Off appeared alongside fan favourites like She's Always In My Hair and Bambi.

There were a couple of sound problems during the night but it didn't detract from the spectacle and the sound guy was duly scolded by Prince himself.

Another thing I remember from that evening was that my friend was mistakenly accused by one of Prince's bouncers of taking pictures of the performance. By way of apology, we were given Prince plectrums with the Artist's symbol on them.

I think the performance ended at about 5:30 AM. We drove home immediately afterwards.

I continue to look forward to being able to attend another aftershow concert, though I am prepared to be disappointed as it could not possibly beat this one.
