Straight from www.allmusic.com ;
The debut set from Jill Jones was three years in the making and went through many different track listings, but in the end the final version was well worth the wait. The album is produced entirely by the multi-talented Prince and is highly regarded among his fans, even though it was not well received at the time. Highlights include lead single "Mia Bocca," "All Day, All Night," and "For Love," on which Prince can be heard on the backing vocals and the Revolution can be heard on all instruments. The closing track, "Baby, You're a Trip," was originally a Prince demo in the vein of "Purple Rain," and his backing track survives on this version. Jones' vocals are distinctive and passionate, and the influence of her mentor, Teena Marie, is evident throughout. The album was released on CD in 1987 but, due to a culmination of poor sales and poor promotion, was quickly deleted and has now become very sought after.

By many, the Jill Jones album Prince produced is one of his finest for other artists. As you know, Jones was hanging around Prince (or dated him) off and on since 1982 or so... she appears in video's of the 1999 album and does background vocals on the album too. Their relationship is maybe the reason Prince took extra care of this production, not shipping her off with loads of second rate songs (like Apollonia), but gave her re-worked versions of his top-notch Purple Rain outtakes.

I love her voice, as she uses it to express emotion. Thenagain, I am a Björk fan. And I love the debut album by the Nina Hagen Band. So there ya go.

Yeah but the difference between Chaka/Prince and Jill Jones is that Jill is not world known for her singing prowess. And I was being nice by saying it's an "acquired taste". ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Its a great album. I am not crazy over her singing either...its kinda screechy at times...but the songs are so good and most of the time she sounds pretty good that its worth searching for. Any serious Prince fan will like it since its essentially a Prince album with a chick singing.

Not just a prince album with a chick singing for crying out loud. Acquired taste or not Jill Jones has the most powerful lungs out of all of Ps good looking proteges. Thats got to count for something. As for visual appeal I think Jill Jones is a fox. Others can disagree. And her treatment of the material she was given by prince was gutsy and assured. Even if its not to everyone's taste. But you can argue that Prince's music is an acquired taste in itself. some people will always be moaning about innocuous stuff like that till kingdom come. I say bollocks to them

What Jill looks like is irrelevant to what she sounds like singing. I have always maintainted she has an ok voice ....for a backup singer. She tends to be screechy just like someone else pointed out. But as I said earlier, the music is ok so it's worth checking out. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

May I also offer Eric Leed's Times Squared? To me, those two asociate artist albums have the best what Prince has got to offer.

Can anyone give me some info on it please!! It was tight!! The thing is, the music and musicanship was 15 years ahead of the game. It was funky. Jill still plays over in England, last I heard ( this was back in December 2005), so she may still be over there or not, but she was good. To me she was better than Vanity and Apples. But it is really good. “When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a Communist.” Brazilian bishop Dom Hélder Câmara

Can anyone give me some info on it please!! I bought it when it first came out, let a friend borrow it, and never got it back. I bought it in a thrift shop in 2004. It was 50 cents and still sealed. Talk about luck. Andy is a four letter word.

It was definately the best album that prince had produced for an artist ever, the music was gr3at..tho it didnt get as much props as Sheila E's albums which were gr3at as well.

Beauty is in the ear of the beholder. I mean, I looooove Chaka's voice, as I do Jill's. Two different voices, but the same when it comes to conveying emotions.
