My opinion on the Vault...

People keep wondering why P won't release the Vault over & over. I understand that, i'd love to hear that stuff officially, too (so long as he doesn't re-do them & muss 'em up). But it occurred to me, maybe he's waiting until those 35 years are up on each one. Then when he gets his masters back, he can re-master & re-release them with the corresponding Vault material (i.e. for Parade, my fave, he'll re-master & add "All My Dreams", etc as bonus material. The only problem with this is if that's what he does, we'll have to wait until 2021 for it! (1986 + 35 years)

I think folks should stop wanting stuff from the Vault. It just isn't going to happen. Sure, we ay get another CB in this decade. But that's about it.

If he wanted to release stuff, he would. I am sure there would be PLENTY to release post WB if he wanted to.

I don't think there is a master plan nor do I think he's waiting to do anything. Yes we all know it would be in his (or is it ours) best interest if he did blah blah blah. But if he hasn't caught on by now....

i think the reason he doesn't want to release stuff from the vault is that it would show up how average his current work is by comparison.

hey, i'm not being negative or anything - but 'all my dreams', 'wonderful ass', 'moonbeam levels' and many, many others from those years would blow practically any artist's work out of the water. it's unfair but prince is a victim of his former BRILLIANCE. as he says in 'don't play me':

'my only competition is... well, me in the past'

imho, he's just doing what he's always done. Busy working on the next project and not terribly concerned with working on old stuff. Maybe one day that'll change. Maybe not..

If that really is the reason, why did he release "Crystal Ball" in 1998 then and gave some potential material for such a reissue away?

Seriously, it's barely been 2 months since 3121 came out. It'd be a tad early to announce anything about the next project. Trust me, he's working.

Of course! I guess what I meant is...it's nice to think that "he's working on the next project" And about 5 years ago, that would be the norm. It's just that with so many debunked efforts this year...No Promotion for 3121, No tour (yet...but I don't think we're getting one), Temar pushed back etc. No other singles or anything. Usually at this time after he drops an album there is news everywhere about what's up...and what's going on. THere seems to be no excitement what-so-ever.

He may be working but I think he's probably making pancakes or something.

True he's been relatively quiet for a couple of months. Although in this quiet year he's released a number one album, performed several hit n run shows, made a couple of noteworthy TV appearances (with another scheduled in few weeks), performed for contest winners in his home, released a suprisingly good music video (and a typically average one), and is about to release a protege's album.
