Too bad for Prince. Kinda makes the "Making History" advertisement look pretty silly. More like "Ancient History." He should definitely have advertised more. | |

What we are seeing here is that while major label promotion can help secure a #1 debut, an artist actually needs to produce a run of hit singles in order to have staying power in the top 10.

Completely illogical to me that Prince, after scoring his first #1 album in over 15 years, is not promoting the album. Has he gone mad??!! "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

Why should it be so illogical? Either he doesn't care about chart placement as much as some of his fans do or something is going on his personal life that takes precedent over promoting an album. Personally, I'm guessing the latter since he did start to promote the album. The SNL show and the in store performance at Tower Records here and the Brit Awards overseas were excellent starters. Whatever the case, after numerous years as a Prince fan, I've learned using illogical and Prince in the same sentence is, well, illogical. This is Prince we're talking about. I mean this is a guy who won some Grammys last year after umpteen years of going without and he didn't show up to receive them. I really don't think Grammys mean that much to him anymore. But some folks here sure got pissed that he didn't accept them personally. "Housekeeping! Housekeeping?"

Yeah,it looks like this album is gonna reach gold status, but probably not platinum in the States. But that's still an impressive figure for an artist who's been around as long as Prince has.Hell,Stevie Wonder's latest CD only went gold in the States, and I think that's cause for celebration.Radio ignores artists who are considered "old",so we can't expect these folks to sell records like they did in their prime. | |

Prince is mearly doing what he always do... - Release a Critically acclaimed album - Get a good start - Fail to properly promote - Make terrible choice of single releases Hoped for different this time around.. but.. well.. heh.. we really got Prince true to form. | |

The guy's been mentally ill throughout his entire career. Why is this surprising? | |

I don't imagine this is what was predicted. But it's not selling badly, that's for sure. I figure it will go at least gold. This is kind of like his new Dirty Mind lp, kinda sorta. | |

I don't get it either. He wanted the album to be a hit but he basically isn't doing anything to help it. Too bad because it's so much better than "Musicology", not to mention a lot of his recent albums. Is it just me or have you been hearing Prince will do American Idol, or that Univerisal wants him to do it. Howard Stern keeps pushing this obvious rumour since I've heard nothing about it. It certianly will help the album, but is it worth it? | |

I recall Prince saying something like "a Grammy? what the F is that?" but I don't think he meant it. Regardless of his tough outer shell, it hurt him 2 b rejected by the 'mainstream; what about all the times he would say things like "MTV hates me." And | |

----- How is it ancient history it is still in the top 50. Music just does not sell like it use to . For P's age and the piss poor promotion that Universal has done the CD is doing okay. | |

Its slowly cruising down the charts, but to be at #30 in 4 weeks, is unheard of with no promotion at this point for a prince record. Usually the albums would have fell completely off the charts so ppl are definitely buying the record and somewhere, ppl are hearing it. Vh1 still shows the "Black Sweat" video, but very rare now. Maybe once or twice a day and Mtv, isn't showing the video anymore, neither is BET. It is time for Prince to step up to the plate and bat another video hit and single. I'm really looking forward to "FURY" and "LOVE", These two will definitely get more sales and of course if he performs on tv. It should sell a cool 2-3 million copies total, by end of the summer. So PRINCE where are you man? COME OUT AND PLAY! ----- "I'm really proud of Prince, simply because his album is a sure hit! I am not sure what planet some of the people on this board are on. That is still this high on the charts with no radio play is pretty good. | |

Get real people! It's a bad album, period. He even knows how bad it is, that's why he's not even promoting it any more. He made that album for the kids who like Britney or Blink 182, looking for a younger audience. I'm trying to get into it, and there's only 2 or 3 tracks that I like. Even N.P.S. and Rave sound a lot better than this. | |

Prince.org is a cemetery where folks mourn Prince instead of celebrate him and his music. Last time I checked, Prince isn't dead yet.

NPS and Rave is crap compared to 3121! "3121" is a good album! There are so many crap records out here and yet they sell like hot cakes! Its not about quality, its about promotion these days. I don't know how many records I bought simply based on promotion, cause it seemed like everyone was buying it and got it in my car and listened once and gave it away. "3121" has been in my player since the day it was released and I might be biased because I am a prince fan...but I don't like everything he does. But I DO LOVE 3121! You're not the only one. I'm amazed that I STILL love this CD. I have to play at least a couple of songs from this CD. It's too good to be ignored. I can't believe there are people who could even think that NPS and Rave are better than 3121. They have got to be Prince.org is a cemetery where folks mourn Prince instead of celebrate him and his music. Last time I checked, Prince isn't dead yet.
