All of you listening early are wrecking it for yourselves....

Hmmm, I was tempted to listen to "3121" early, but I thought again. You tell me what's better:

1. Listening to a crappy MP3 version of the album that doesn't sound right no matter how good your computer speakers are...

or

2. Runnin' the record store after school/work, opening a factory fresh, brand new cd (complete with artwork that you can still smell the ink on), poppin' that new CD into car stereo system and lettin' it spin around on your way home.

See, I think a lot of y'all might be the type that found the presents in mom's closet instead of waiting for Santa to come and leave you a note and a half eaten cookie. You spoil it for yourselves.

i don't think i'm spoiling myself in the least. i'ma still get the shit in another week or so, so i'll be opening the shit like those of yuz who will be buying it when it drops.

I already had that 'first time' experience. It was very similar to what would happen had I waited. I lay down on my bed and listened to the album from start to finish. I don't look at the cover and stuff that much when I get a new album anyway.

Of course I have a point. Opening your presents early is not so much fun when your birthday DOES come arounf and you have nothing new.

Tell me this- If "Purple Rain" were rereleased tomorrow with no new extra songs/artwork/whatever would you be as excited as if it was brand new? No- you already experienced that version of "Purple Rain". You want something ew and different.

On 3/21 you will have already experienced listening to the new album. It will be old hat to you (Granted not 1984 old, but not new anyways).

I'll tell you where I am coming from-

I got "Musicology" the day I went to see the concert simulcast. This was a week before it was released in stores, right?

Anyways, when "Musicology" was released properly I went and got it but it was no big deal because I already had it. As I said before, you only get one 1st time and there is much fun to be had in waiting and anticipating. But, different strokes for different folks.....

well I have the whole thing saved on the computer--both at home and at work. I haven't even listened to all of the songs yet. will I before I buy the CD on 3/21? Maybe...maybe not. Did I spoil it for myself? No--I still don't know what the disc will look like, the liner notes, the songs will definitely sound better on my stereo system than my laptop. Why does it matter if some people listened to it early? If you don't want to listen, don't; but who cares what other people do...don't let their actions "spoil" your fun.
