Sign o the times, disc 2, track 2

Yes thats right, im talking about If I Was Ur Girlfriend, I am currently listening 2 my ipod and I have this song on repeat, as always, and I can't describe the feeling I have about this song, its wonderful. So I felt that I would leave a place on the org 4 every1 2 express their own feelings on this song. I know everybody has this same feeling when they hear it, so now is ur chance 2 express it. Now go ahead, express yo self! cool

I love it, but I could never see it as a seduction song. Too creepy

Seduction is creepy, if I was ur girlfriend u would, wouldnt you. Powerful haunting, fucked up and yearning genius come to mind with this song.

It's called "transsexuality". You may contact your local sexual minority support group for more information and personal guidance if needed on your newfound sentiments.

Genius song!! Prince at his weird, alternative best. Another song that translates well live with different arrangements. Culture critic/writer/professor bell hooks explores this song in her feminism/gender classes.

Too bad Prince doesn't take these chances anymore. Has there been another mainstream pop superstar who has done anything as remotely experimental as this song?

The TLC cover is very bad and loses all it's mind fu@#k meaning.

I don't see anything "creepy" about it. OK so he's doing the Camille voice, but the lyrics aren't a "transsexual" thing at all, in my opinion. For me this is simply another song about a man obsessed, so infatuated with his lady and wanting to spend 24/7 with her that he wants to be everything to her, even her best girlfriend, so he can have her all to himself. Ok so obsession can go too far, but in this case its more about the romance and giving oneself to another.

Very True, although at the end it does get rather "creepy," when his intentions towards love just jump into a melodramatic sex rant.

It's a brilliant song - lyrically, musically....it's incredible. I really wish he'd do more of this. Perhaps his new muse (or muses, if we can consider the twins to be such) will inspire him in this way.

No description of praise can do this song justice, all time prince top 10. Definitely the man at his peak, and much respect to him for having the balls to release it as the second single. I always think this is the perfect summation of the mans image. you know the borderline cross dressing thing, him wanting to be all the things this woman is to him, even to look like her. Thats how I explain prince to all those "he's gay" idiots. I love the ambiguity of this song though.

Also, the SOTT live version of this is frickin amazing. I love extra guitar riff parts, so much so that i sing them when i listen to the studio version.
