Te Amo has been a flop so far commercially

i am very suprised Prince's new single only got up to #89 on Itunes like the song or not i would have thought with many people here downloading the song and just the curiosity of others would have helped the song get much higher..especially coming off such a big success with Musicology ..hell even the Musicology single stayed on itunes top 40 for several weeks ..but even after a premiere on all the vh-1 channels the single couldnt even pass a jimmy durante christmas song.. i know many people will say Prince doesnt care about sales but if he didnt he wouldnt have signed with Universal he would have distributed the new song and album on npgmc exclusively..anyways the performance of the single is not a good sign for the success of upcoming projects

the only thing that would bring this song any success would be if he sung it on Oprah and thats not gonna happen

Yeah, I saw it as high as #9 on their R&B/Soul list and it's already dropped to #15 there now. Not good at all... is the video being played much?

What seems worse to me is that it WAS on there (#89) and then dropped completely off. If people were responding to the video well then I'd think it would have been, at least slowly, climbing the iTMS chart.

I am not suprized. Actually it is what I expected.

Prince needs learn it's time to take it higher or just hang it up.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

prince needs to start eating an elephant, the biggest problem he's facing is becoming a commercial success with te amo . i have no idea what group of people he is targetting with his new career... who outthere is willing to join him?

don't forget musicology was on rnb radio and had an audience of over 10 million a week for x amount of weeks/months. TAC doesn't have close to that. and its got no promotion outside of VH1 and that premiere really, how many viewers does vh1-soul really get? i'd be shocked if the average was above a million, or even close to it.

It has been released at the last minute with an internet download only. This video was used to announce a new project release. It is not the big launch of the project that will happen only next year.

Having said that, of course, Prince will not be N.1 in the charts wether his new releases are amazing or not. Kids nowadays listen to other stuff.

Personnally I love TAC and I'm far from being a fan of some his recent ballads. wink

Whats with this American obsession with chart positions and "target audiences"?

If you like the song, great, if you don't, no problem.

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

I haven't heard the song anywhere in the UK, neither is the video being played anywhere... TV music channels over here seem to think all we want is endless repeats of Wham's Last Christmas, Slade and the Paul McCartney's Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time. If it ain't got sleigh bells on it, it ain't getting played... perhaps he should have re-released Come.

lol .. why are you suprised it only got up to 89? I don't even think Prince was suprised, especially after they shut his chat room down after the release of Te Amo. I hear there was 2 much bad mouthing of the song that they shut the chat room down. lol .. Anyway, his sales are doing horrible, even at his own site, which is why he made a deal with universal.

It just came out a week ago and it it a ballad. I don't expect big sales and remember "Call My Name" hung around for a year. So we just to have to wait and see.

He sold about million copies of Musicoloyg from retail last year. Not bad considering that all record sales are down and dude is almost 50. Some of you guys can't get it in your heads that P is never going to have a 10 million selling song or CD again. I doubt if he even expects that.

Catwoman do you know anything about the music industry. He signed deal to get the promotion and distribution that Universal can provide.
