3121 PRESS CONFERENCE REPORT / PICTURES!!

Hi Prince!!

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - Prince, who famously scrawled "slave" on his face during a dispute with his record company in the mid-1990s, said Tuesday he received everything he wanted in his latest deal with Universal Records.


"I got a chance to structure an agreement the way I saw fit instead of the other way around," Prince said during a news conference to promote a video for his new single,"Te Amo Corazon."

The 47-year-old superstar has signed a one-album deal with Universal to release his upcoming album, "3121," early next year.

Prince declined to give financial details of the agreement, but said it was similar to the joint venture he struck with Columbia Records in 2003. In that deal, the label manufactured and distributed his 2004 hit album "Musicology," for NPG Records, Prince's label.

Asked why he would sign on with the biggest record company in the world given his past clashes with major labels, Prince said, "I don't consider Universal a slave ship. I did my own agreement ... I got exactly what I wanted."

The singer had some advice for new artists. He challenged them to read the fine print on their record contracts.

On Tuesday, VH1 and its affiliated networks, including Tempo and VH1 Soul, premiered "Te Amo Corazon," directed by Salma Hayek.

VH1 will also make the song available on its Vspot broadband channel and VH1 Mobile.

Prince said the sultry ballad is not indicative of what the album sounds like. He also said a tour was in the works but declined to give details.

This 20004-05 Prince person is an oddity in itself - he actually is acting like a sage and sane person. He's not so embroiled in the drama of all the contracts and such, and he just tells folks to "read the fine print." Welladay...

Prince is in a great position. Given his storied history, he could lie (not saying he is lying) about every subsequent contract he has now and claim to be getting what he wants.

Then decline to disclose the terms.

No one would be the wiser.


I'm sure, though, that Skipper got what he wanted. Though, it's hard to see what a record label gets out of this deal.

From a purely label owner standpoint, I would consider Prince a diminished commodity, a legacy act at this point -- not a hot seller who's a hit with the kids.

Someone school me on his caché, from a label's perspective, please.

Really though, I dunno if he's had work done or not, but yep, he's getting older, and he's starting to look like it, just like we all do/will.

I think his tiny sparrow-like lean frame doesn't lend itself well to age, because at least if you had a bit of meat on you, the wrinkles have something to drink from and stay plumped out just a little bit longer.

Was it really necessary???

The jacket is uniform-ish, but to say it's Jackson-esque is stretching it. For me the line(s) of buttons on his clothes have always been very "Prince". I'm happy to see it.

I watched the video with a friend and noted the arms too. I think their sexy. I think he's filled out a little, but not much. And he was still lean throughout the Musicology tour. Depending on where you sat and the lighting you could see though the tunics and shirts. Still Flat.

Why yall hatin'. For his age he looks DAMN GOOD. MJ surely can't say the same and neither can a lot of other musician in his age range.

Dig the suit, I hate those pictures. I'm sorry... Prince has to stop wearing foundation..he looks like he's trying to hold on to his youth for dear life. That aweful makeup draws attention to his lines and bags. He looks like Liza Minelli's long lost son. It was necessary. Only in light of the fact that he is doing old school album marketing. A little diff approach. Remember the days of singles being released weeks/months ahead of an album. Was the press conference worth it? No. People are to busy now days to pay attention to non info. If the album is goin to be released in Spring '06, who in the heck is going to remember a non informational press conference. Seems like a waste of time. Unless the Beige One is up to something else.

Yeah I see what you are saying. Prince does seem to live less a celebrity lifestyle than he used to. It probably would be hard to have a relationship with him in the past unless you were a musician or dancer in his band because he seemed to BE music. Like his life was reherse, play show, go to club and play aftershow and go home and record music or make music video or just basicaly you would have to live that life with him.

It does seem like Mani and Prince have a much more balanced relationship. Like they can go to a movie, go to dinner, discuss religion and just have a real relationship. But I guess I just wonder how much of herself Mani is really allowed to be. How much did she bring to the relationship? It would be fun to go to parties, meet celebrities, travel around the world, go shopping with Prince's credit card but it would also be kinda lonely I think. He is so busy and everyone wants a piece of him, and he has to travel and work....if I were Mani I'd never feel like I had enough of his attention or energy.
