I really can't stand these enquirer type papers. They should be illegal.

Pfft. some "celebrities'" "careers" would cease altogether if those tabloid papers were illegal and shut down, and those "celebrities" know it and they might bitch about the tabs, but deep down they're just grateful that anybody gives enough of a crap about them to print their picture and report on them at all.

the mods have already locked the other hip threads -- this is the official one...geez yourself!

second, another sticky was made because PP9 at the club has said Prince is not getting surgery...however it should be pointed out:

PaisleyPark6 is correct, it is a private matter. Not just 4 Prince, 4 any person. Nevertheless, he is not getting surgery of any kind.

that is the exact response...in other words, Prince may have medical problems, but is not going to undergo surgery. If PP9 really knows anything, surely it would be better to say the rumours are FALSE...they have done nothing more but add credence to the rumour, which in the Enquirer states that Prince may decide not to get surgery based on his beliefes...they aren't refuting the allegations: so Prince is going to end up in a wheelchair razz

my mother worked for 15+ years in the orthopedic department of a clinic/hospital for a number of different orthopedic surgeons. i asked her last night about the hip replacement surgery and she told me that such a surgery would definitely alleviate the pain caused by the hip bone and joint rubbing on each other but that, after the surgery, there would be certain restrictions the patient would be HIGHLY advised by his/her doctor to follow, so as not to cause further injury or stress to that [weakened] surgery site and to avoid more problems. such as, Prince would most probably be advised NOT to wear the high heels AT ALL anymore; be told not to do certain exercises, movements or certain body positions (even crossing your legs might be a no-no for a particular patient).

lastly, just because Prince can still "get around" without visible pain doesn't mean anything in terms of whether or not he's *really* in pain, or whether or not a hip replacement surgery is deemed a necessity (sooner or later) by his doctor. if Prince has irreversible damage at this point to his hip/s, enough so that its causing him pain, it's NOT going to just 'get better' or go away....and therefore him being told by his physician that a hip replacement is the only option that would alleviate his pain is certainly not some far-out, outrageous concept.

maybe Prince's doctor told him he could slide for a couple more years without having the surgery if he doesn't mind taking painkillers and anti-inflammatories (but those come with their OWN set of potential problems to consider, too) and avoids certain activities and stresses to his joints (such as dancing and wearing the high heels), but a person doesn't have to be hobbling around or so disables they're in a wheelchair for a joint replacement surgery to be declared (by their doctor) as a procedure that's going to be need to be done -- sooner or later.
[Edited 10/14/05 14:18pm]

Very true, thanks for the info. If the story is true I pray he will take care of himself so it doesn't get worse. Those painkillers are addictive and have side effects too.
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

This story reminds me of the infamous Prince/Mayte fight at a NY nightclub several years ago. The story was reported in the NY Post Page Six gossip column then spread like wildfire to a bunch of different gossip rags and newspapers.
The irony is that he probably already had the surgery. He's been out of the public eye for most of the year, with the exception of those presenter gigs at the beginning of the year. He's just now being spotted in various places overseas. Plenty of time to recoup from surgery.
Surgery or no surgery, I doubt he's gonna announce it to the world. If he does have surgery, hopefully he can enjoy the post-op meds. They gave me morphine after my appendix was taken out, and that was one hospital I didn't look forward to leaving. lol

No, it doesn't answer the question, but personally I don't think Prince needs to tell his fans if he's in need of surgery or not. That's his private business.

And anyway even if he does need surgery, I never expected anything else but a denial about it from the PP camp; Prince doesn't like to a) discuss/publicize/advertise his personal life [yeah, yeah, i remember the whole Mayte thing. i think he learned his lesson from that! but before her and the marriage and pregnancy, he never let on much directly regarding his personal life and i think he'd never behave again the way he did when he was with her] and b) it's my opinion that Prince doesn't EVER, if he can possibly help it, want to let it be known he has suffering and issues and imperfections and flaws in his life and his body. He seems to always want to project an image of complete health, happiness and control in all aspects of himself and his life. The last thing (IMO) that he'd want to do is publically admit to everyone his body ain't perfect, and that he - PRINCE! - requires an "old man" surgery such as a hip replacement -- a situation which would also impinge upon his Prince™ persona..i.e. the high heels (would probably not be able to do that after a hip replacement) and the dancing.

A hip replacement is a major surgery and there's a lot to consider regarding it for the person to whom its recommended. It might take Prince awhile to come to terms with it or decide what is REALLY the best thing for him to do in regards to his health.

The eyeroll at the end of PP9's comment -- I dunno. Spin control, probably. Or, this entire rumor is totally bunk (tho I think there's truth to it, based on Prince's behavior in recent years, like the lower heeled shoes, the no dancing, etc)

Whatever. I just wish Prince the best of health, and hope he isn't living with pain.

a total hip replacement often seems to be mistakenly perceived as a surgery for older folks. it isn't exclusive to "old people", of course, though many older people *do* need to undergo joint replacement surgery than do younger folks.

health issues happen as we age; some conditions and afflictions are MORE associated with aging than others -- and I just personally don't think Prince would like being associated with anything that makes him appear to be 'old/er' or that he's aging.**

that's the only point i was trying to make with the "old man" surgery phrase.

***just my opinion, of course. i could be wrong

Seriously though folks... I felt a sense of closure with the Musicology tour esp. when I saw him rock the orthopedic shoes on stage (and here I thought I was seeing things). But to say that this natural born performer will be content to live out the rest of his days in a wheelchair? Fuk Dat. Jehova is about to witness a miracle...

Either surgery on the sly or he will denounce JW altogether.

Anybody that keeps up with the news knows that...

Prince is a gay wheel-chair bound expletive-spitting agoraphobic.

He carries a large hunting knife in his sock and as such all who meet with him are instructed to avoid making direct eye contact, for this has been known to trigger violent fits of hallucinatory-based behavior stemming from years of abuse of mixing and matching wine, estrogen and a whole plethora of pain medications.

Like royalty he cannot be addressed without the proper protocol, a full-body cavity search and a 30-page document signed in triplicate.

When not singing he communicates only through a cryptic form of sign language that requires sexual intercourse with masked females. Only then does he feel whole again as a gay bashing gay.

After sex with Prince the female is led directly to a computer where she transcribes his thoughts and feelings to words and musical tablature from data that's been stored up as a series of complex taps upon her g-spot.

He puts aluminum foil on every window of his home to block out the "naughty stuff" and to keep his house smelling of fresh jasmine.

He is currently both in intense therapy and in intense denial about it. He refers to these sessions as "going to the beautician to have his 'fro lifted".

In his spare time when he's not leaving pint-size tips at restaurants, chasing kids off the lawn with his pimped-out purple Hover Round, sucking the blood from doves to keep his baby-smooth complexion, or battling uncontrollable bouts of Tourrette's syndrome he finds time to write, produce, compose, arrange, practice multiple instruments, sing, record, hire band members, rehearse, take meetings with record executives, dream-up marketing plans, release music, make videos, appear on TV, and plan and perform in massive concerts all over the world.

AS SEXY as the Man SURELY is I do Realize we should see him MORE as a TEACHER/ Person who Can Guide Us. Of course he is Not GOD and All But we as Fans should LEARN From His WORDS and HIS SPIRITUAL VIBE. UN-RELIGIOUS /Spiritual people don't want us to follow him,but he is much more settled at 47 and calm. I believe he will always be a kink-dog type with fantasies that will remain at Bay because he Himself does NOT Want ALL That FLAIR anymore. One must always RESPECT his Talent and the Great Musical Contribution he has Contributed to Our Time. He is Remarkable. biggrin

sigh This whole thing seems suspicious to me. If wearing high heels caused so much hip damage, wouldn't there be a lot more hip replacement surgeries amoung women? I hardly ever wear shoes that don't have a heel. Granted, I'm not 47 or whatever yet, but...I've never had any issues, nor has anyone I've known.
It is curious that P is popping up in the news again with this story, though. I (selfishly) hope it isn't true b/c I want another tour with dancing! shrug

OK, has ANYONE seen Prince the last few months? If so, when and did he appear to be limping or have any kind of mobility impairment? Any kind of surgery is risky, and I don't think this in particular would be contemplated unless the person can hardly get around anymore.
