If prince didn't release an album this year....

it'd be his 3rd official albumless year since he started back in 1978. Correct me if I'm wrong. The two official albumless years were 1983 and 1997. Maybe the reason for his 1983 break was "1999" his first double album. And 1997 break came after Emancipation. His first triple album and under a new name. And this might be his third official albumless year!!! And I can't think of any reason. cry

there was no new album in 1983 because he was working on the purple rain movie. i've heard rumblings that he actually DID have stuff ready to release in '83, but it was just too much to juggle with the upcoming movie. i will leave the further details to our resident prince-ologists when they come across this thread...

as for '97, there wasn't new material released (though you could argue "the truth" and "kamasutra"), but it certainly wasn't a quiet year. 'crystal ball' came out, and i believe he spent some time touring and developing L4OA, right?

You are wrong, so you should be corrected. We didn't get an album in 2000 either.

we got all those kooky hit-n-run singles though, right? it wasn't a complete drought, like this year's been.

That's true, sure. There are still some months left of this year, so he could still put something out. "Rave" which was a pretty complex project came out only with a few months warning. Maybe just a couple of weeks if I remember correct.

i think there'll be something by the end of the year. i'm not sweatin' it.

if there's not, then whatevs. 2004 was a big prince year for me, and 2005 has been a big year for enjoying everyone else. i'm fine with marinating in non-prince-ness for a while, so i'll be nice and starved when he decides to bless us with his next little missive of glee.

To be honest, at the given moment I wouldn't be all that disappointed if there never was another new Prince release. Sometimes I think it's become more of a habit to get excited about the new Prince record than a genuine sentiment of expectation. confused

i know exactly what you mean. personally, i felt kind of a sense of closure after last summer, like everything afterwards is gonna be gravy. if he never released anything new again, i might get a little bitchy if he refused to release vault stuff and old live recordings, but even that kind of stuff i have in a less-than-official format. i can say i'm pretty satiated with prince stuff.

I don't care how long, or when he releases new music, as long as he never stops. I can keep going back through all the old times and enjoy them all over again...anything new just adds to my imagination.

dear me.....haway, man!! Most artists release an album every 2-3 years!! Give the bloke a break! I know he used to complain that warners didnt wanna release everything he wanted them to.....so I would suppose it's a case of being careful what you wish for cuz you might just get it!! smile

the longer it takes to record an album, the more satifying it would be, an album recorded in 2 weeks aint gonna be good, although the beatles "please please me" was recorded in a day, and that is one of the best albums ever

as a fan of sade's and wendy and lisa i aint even trippin.....they each take on average seven years to release works..but when they do, the pay off is worth it.

prince, if your reading this...take your time man...release something that you will be proud of years from now.

dont let this fast food nation force you to release something every year just cause thats what you used to do.

listen to your heart...and your ears.

and call up susan rogers...stat!!

I'm still working on getting all his previous albums. I gotta lot of catching up to do first, so I'm just fine. I can wait a while longer.

This is what I've wanted for a while, actually. I'm not complaining.

Prince should take his time and put his heart into an album, making sure not to rush it full of songs he wrote when he wasn't inspired.

Jestyr

From a letter to Eileen (of Controversy magazine) from Mayte (1993)

"Very strange! Eileen, I know I keep saying that word, but even though I'm close 2 him I'm still so very far. He seemed happy when he played me the sequence but when I asked him, "What are U going 2 do with this new music now that U have retired?" He looked me in the eye and said, "I'm going 2 give it 2 my friends." See what I mean? Strange! I don't know what friends he's talking about. And he laughs like I'm suppose 2 know. What's really funny is that everyone thinks he's bluffing. They think he has 2 put out another album -- just like the sun has 2 rise."

"Prince if youre reading this..." lol Jezzus Christ.. and yeah, he should call all the white women he ever worked with so he can be great again. God kows how he won Grammies, sold millions of records, stayed on top of the music world and got into the Hall of Fame without them.

Crystal Ball was 1998, not '97. 1997 was a completely albumless year, of any kind.

There are 16 Tuesdays left this year. So there is hope of a release.
