Prince's Funniest Remarks To His Audience

2002; ONA tour; Prince plays Love Rollercoaster riff, audience bursts into shouts and noise; Prince says;

Y'all showing your age up in here!

I like that quip.

By far my favourite is from a performance of "It's gonna be a beautiful night". The CD it's on is mainly from Paris 87, but this song seems to be a blend of a Paris performance and a performance in Holland? Two parts of the song - just show his charisma, more than being hilarious:

Firstly, when the song breaks down and Prince says:

"Can we go home now? Excuse me - can we go home now?

(crowd cheers "no")

Don't you fools see that it's raining?!"

love

Second - the tune falls away to a kick drum only, and Prince says:

"A'ight, Holland! You leave me no choice - you leave me no choice.

I'm gonna have to Kick...Your...Ass!

(crowd cheers)

You understand that, didn't ya? I'm going to KICK. YOUR. ASS."

Not particularly funny in itself, but i love it for the way he says it with such ferocity. lol

when he invited the audience to dance. told us we should because some of us needed the exercise then kinda cocked his head, looked out at us and added with a tiny nod 'you know who you are'.

too funny biggrin

On the 1+1+1=3 song/bootleg Prince stops in the middle of the song and says "I'm not gonna go on until U come up on this stage."(he spotted somebody in the audience that caught his eye). After some fans have been dancing on stage a while he stops the band and says "Don't yaw do nothing that is gonna get me arrested", "You keep yo hands to yourself Mr.Red"(referring to a fan on stage dancing sexually, I presume), "How about U ?"(talking to a female fan that was dancing with Mr Red. "Don't put nothing on him that does not belong to him." It's funny to her Prince being so loose and his true self.
"The fanbase I have now, they're so sophisticated, they almost expect me to do the unexpected." -Prince

My favorite I think is on the Live at the Aladdin DVD when he asks everyone if they had a cell phone to call their next of kin -cause we about to get funky.

Also his re-enactment of Ozzy Osbourne was hilarious!

"do you want some more?" "are you absolutley sure this time?"

and

"yall are pretty fast" "a hundred and twelve! no no no"

and ofcourse the famous "show of hands how many of you are drunk?" "oh you mean you're actually going to hear what we play tonight?" (or something like that)

and
I forget the exact quote but I think it's from a celly...where he comments on a womens nice white sneakers (tennies, trainers, whatever) and says something like "whoo you know she clean!"

can't seem to spell WHITE today edit

On Musicology tour during the acoustic set, he played Cream and he really wanted to get the whole audience to participate. So he's be like CREAM, and then the audience sings the next line, which you could tell they alll weren't singing too loudly cuz they weren't 100% sure of the lyrics. So he stopped playing and just kinda gave the audience a look and shook his head. The whole audience started laughing and cheering.. He goes something like "How old are ya'll up in here? 17??" hahahaha.

wasnt that some kind of benefit concert?, he said "yall want an awful lot for two hundred dollars", to think he was afraid to face the audience at the Capri in 78.

Just a little off topic but, in a live version of "Still Would Stand All Time", one of the back up singers through out the first 5 minutes keeps on singing 'still WILL stand all time'. Prince finally says "Who's the fool saying will, IT'S WOULD! From then on she says 'would'. Kinda funny though. biggrin

2004 at the Joe Louis in Detroit

He is singing some song... (I can't remember) and he poses and says "somebody take my picture! I know about those cell phones!"
The crowd roared and yes, some did take pics with their cell phones.

Hammersmith in 2002 in warm up mode. Comes out in a cream jumper and say to crowd.

"I like to pick up a little local lingo/custom what do y'all call this" (Pointing at sweater/jumper he was wearing)

Someone in crowd yelled out

"Ugly"

that just creased me up.

Or celebration 2002 when he was playing When You Were Mine

Stopped and expected the crowd to carry on singing and when we didn't know the words he stopped the music looked at us

"no you probably just better clap c'mon.... that's your part hold that down there you go..., make sure you got it now i will do my part" and he carried on singing

I can't believe I forgot about that one! that is some funny shit! It's bonnie boyer who's messin' up the line. He hints around at it a few times before saying that too..lol he says something like "still would stand all time, yes it would" emphasizing the "would" part. lol

I want to say it was cream. There is some song in which Prince says take my picture. Didnt' he use this line in his grammy performance with Beyonce?
Cause I have seen it in another live performance and remember he did the same at the Joe.

I went 2 the Musicology tour last year in Madison Square Garden and he was performin' "Alphabet street". When he was singin' the part"Im gonna put her in the back seat and drive her 2 Tennessee". B4 he said Tennessee, he stoped and wanted us 2 say it. We all said it and he said "What ya'll say, New Jersey". Every1 was dyin laughin'. It was funny 2 me cuz I'm from New Jersey.
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

When the JOTY tour stopped in Washington at the Gorge (which is an outdoor venue), between a couple songs he paused to reflect... "It's colder than a witches titty out here." I thought it was odd coming from a dude who grew up in MINNESOTA!!! All jokes aside, he was right though.
