It's a record by Prince, released in 2001. Don't worry, I can't get pregnant - my ovaries are diseased......

It's a record by Prince, released in 2001. And it includes a title track and the very underrrrrated "Wedding Feast" among others...

The title track is incredible, so give it a listen. Check out "Digital Garden" and "The Sensual Ever After" too.

The wedding feast is an underated classic.
Any track from NPS is poor in comparison.

One of his best albums ever!! Rivals his '80s output... "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

Probably one of the most widely debated albums by Prince fans. Most either love it or hate it. It is heavily jazz tinged, and filled with cryptic lyrics that relate to his conversion to the Jehovah's Witnesses. Some feel that there are lyrics that can be construed as anti-semetic, while others argue that they are simply too obtuse to get anything clear out of them. The playing has a "live" feel, even though it is primarily Prince, John Blackwell and Najee playing on most tracks.
Personally, I like this album quite a bit, although I can understand why it doesn't grab everyone. It has some very tight playing, and the arrangements are quite good. Unfortunately, the bizzare lyrics and weird, slowed-down narrator voice mar the album's flow. If you can get past that, then you just might enjoy it. what jedi said. it's a great concept album, and you kind of have to crawl into its little utopic world in order to understand it. i dig it a lot; so much that i'm writing a big ol' paper about it for school.

I've gone through this a billion times, and I don't wanna debate over it again.
The lyrics are limited in their scope, the narration voice is annoying and distracting, I don't care for the jazzy feel to some of the songs, and it's overly preachy and pretentious. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Great album | |

I'll just say, I like the music on it... everything else (the narration/story, wedding feast/theatrical BS)is not my bag...

Like I always say about The Rainbow Children album, it really is a great album, but the ending of the album is dull with the exception of Last November, I consider it as the "demanding" sequel to Lovesexy. I really don't understand the spoken segues though, where Prince is speaking in a deep voice. Pretty weird! Check me out and add me on:

love this album, it was Prince redefining his career and music at last finding his muse again, only to lose it again with Musicology "Time is a train, makes the future the past"

I do understand why many don't like this album, but this album really gave me some faith back after being unmoved by most of his nineties output. All the criticisms have some truth,(and being a gay atheist the JWs don't really speak to my values) but I enjoy this album hugely, moreso than any other album since SOTT.

I love it! Some of it's creepy and cool and weird, but it's all great! Yep, even "Wedding Feast"!

almost agree except for the bolded part...i never listen to it anymore and consider the lack of energy enough to notch it with NPS and Rave.... Space for sale...

I haven't for about 2 years, and probably never will. NPS is fun in parts, but I could happily live without it, so I'd have to disagree with you on both counts. All subjective of course.

Its a brilliant album, musically the most accomplished and well thought out album he's made since SOTT (although not the best could I just add). There are a number of highlights on the album, the title track being an absolute work of genius. The slow speaking parts are pretty awful, but i kind of block them out now. It is one of his landmark ablums without question.

The music is good but the feelings that come up aren't. For me it signified a radical change from the all loving Prince that I used to know. The TRC Prince crashed into a new philosophy that limited his ability to reach all fans. It felt like a separation and exclusion of those who did not agree wholeheartedly. Not to mention that interpretation of some of the lyrics in TRC could be very subjective and contrary to the original intent.
