I can agree with a lot of what Bono said, but I just can't see Prince with an editor. Although i wish someone would have told him to f%$* off with making LoveSexy one long ass track. Although it was innovative, I always thought, what the f%$*! I'm back!!!!!!!

Why should Prince need an editor?

I mean: Who, other than himself, can say what his music should sound like? Maybe if the purpose of making music was simply to sell a lot of records, and someone else had invested money in this (as was the case with WB), then I could understand the need of expert advices and second opinions, regarding commercial potential etc. But if the purpose of making music is to express yourself, which I think it is for Prince at this point, then who can say they know better than him? It's like someone would edit me when I'm having breakfast... "I think you spent too much time on that cup of coffee...and you shouldn't have made that third sandwich, you already had two of those"... Well, maybe I was hungry, OK? most creative people need editors...authors, painters, songwriters...they sometimes come in the forms of lovers, mentors or actual paid editors. ive always felt prince's creative output has been flawed because he has way way too many yes men around him. just my two cents though.. also, one of the reason's wendy and lisa's musical output is so low is that they refuse to release a song that sounds similiar to something they have previously done..

I know this is a place to discuss Prince, not U2, so I'll try to keep my comments in the right spot.

RealMusician is so fuckin right... u cant control prince - prince is a genius and a real musician making real music as an expression of his innerself. You wouldnt tell Van Gogh that his sunflowers were looking a bit naff and he should maybe consider starting again.

Bono talks like he's some sort of wise, all-knowing, superficial human being - and always has. Fair do's he does a lot for charity, but he talks as though charity wouldnt exist without him. Oh so now we're going to attack Bono for being as publicly expressive as Prince is? Princefans. What a strange crazy lot we are.

nothing like prince, id say that over the whole course of prince's career until now it would be fair to say that he's done most of all his expression in his music - unlike bono. it's that expression through music that i'm talking about above.. and how important it is Once is entertainment, twice is education

I used to have that on videotape from the night it aired, they cut to prince when bono mentioned him in his acceptance speech. Still might somewhere....

I have hated U2 and Bono since 1987, when the greatest travesty in the history of the Grammy's occurred, namely Sign O' The Times losing to The Joshua Tree. Okay, I knew it was going to happen but damn it, that was Prince's shot at the best album, his most ambitious album to date (and still). Seeing Prince jilted in the audience as those wankers went up on stage pissed me off to no end. (And to paraphrase the man, Prince could do what U2 did on The Joshua Tree but they could not do Housequake). Anyway I have always thought of Bono as a pretentious, moronic airbag bastard since then (even though I did dig Achtung Baby) but now, I will forgive him.
Bono's respect for the man is obvious and heart-felt and I think his comments are dead on. And I agree that Prince has needed an editor from time to time but with Prince getting the final veto power. There are things that he has done that an outsider (i.e. someone who doesn't live in his purple brain) might have knocked down that turned out to be absolutely genius. There are also experiements that Prince has had that have fallen flat on their ass. Whether there is anybody out there who could have been able to tell the difference is the question. __________________________

Bull. Evidently you havent been witness to Prince expressing his opinions the last ten years without music. Selective memory at play.

Selective memory at play. lol.. i think ur being selective - picking out a 10 year segment, and it would be to assume that over that whole 10 years prince did all his expression without music and didn't release any music whatsoever - which is obviously not true... i said 'over the whole course' it 'would be fair to say' that he has done 'most' of his expression through music. - thats not selective in the slightest.. thats encompassing [Edited 4/28/05 15:27pm] Once is entertainment, twice is education

You felt that strongly about him for all this time JUST because of that? That wasn't hatred, that was a grudge! That aside, I find it ironic that all this time Bono held him in high regard and P was the one shooting his mouth off back then acting like a petulant child with that moronic quote. I always thought that was one of the lamest things he ever said - not to mention more than a little childish. Still, times change eh.

Prince, Controversy, 1999, SOTT, Lovesxy, never happened you need to head over to housequake or to our associated artist section and read the statements from people like dez, jesse, morris, andre and dr. fink. you would be suprised to find out which songs and which quitar riffs or synth riffs are contributed to people *other* then prince... and when i state my pleasure with wendy and lisa's contributions to prince's legacy, its not a negative..its positive energy.. its negative energy for someone to respond back that wendy and lisa suck. but i know you know that. your just trying to be a smart ass now arent you? If an artist winning or losing a fake award bothers you this much for so you long you have severe issues. But I'm sure Bono will appreciate you forgiving him I don't have issues, I have volumes. Actually I was talking about the whole bitterness thing with my therapist this evening and I came to a realization. I didn't dislike Bono because of the Grammy thing. It's those damn sunglasses he wears that drove my rage. I feel so cleansed! Bono, all is forgiven buddy. Others my scoff but I know how much my approval means to you. Sarcasm is a lost art.

I totally agree with this statement.I don't think he needs an editor...he needs the inspiration from some of the artists (like Joni Mitchell and Herbie Hancock) who have been hangin' at his new digs recently. I mean, can you imagine Joni schooling Prince a bit more about adding some more interesting color and flavor into his music again>?
