Prince---Just a Little Thanks For Some Memories

I'm at work right now. I have 57,000 things to do but I am opting instead to ramble a bit about the man. Feel free to read or ignore at will.

While I sit here, wondering what the future will hold for the Purple One, I am contemplating my age. I just turned 33. I have been a Prince fan since I was 13, so I guess it has been 20 years now. I have gradually changed from a boy to, well a bigger boy I guess (calling myself a man still feels weird, as does being called "sir" by people---not a gender issue but an age thing). My taste in music has grown and changed around the man...from Wham in 84 to a huge Janet Jackson phase to NWA to the Cure to Bell Biv Devoe to Hootie and the Blowfish to...well, you get the point. I never wavered from P. though. I remember when his singles would come on the radio to much fanfare...I would hear "here's a world premiere of the new Prince single" and flip out. One time I was driving to a girl who I was dating's house and the radio announcer said the new Prince single was coming up (Thieves in the Temple) and I drove right past her house and kept going and drove around the block like 6 times so I could hear the song.

Other Prince Memories That I Cherish:

First Girlfriend: My first real girlfriend I had was in 1987 and to this day I cannot think of "Adore" without thinking of her. I just played the song all the time and, even though even first base with this girl was out of the question due to my complete loverman ineptitude, I could, briefly, understand the emotions that Prince was singing about. The relationship only lasted a few weeks and I completely lost track of the girl after high school but oddly enough saw her in a Wal-Mart a few weeks ago. I hid behind some produce.

First Concert: Jam of the Year, 1997 (yeah I know, it seems like I should have seem him sooner but I live in Columbia, SC and he hasn't exactly come her a lot). Great show..."Face Down" brought the house down. Had good seats too.

"Import Collectibles": I used to go to this store when I was in college run by this albino gentleman who claimed to be best friends with Yoko Ono. He would get all these great bootlegs and concert CDs. But he charged an arm and a leg for them. The first one I bought there he was charging like $75 for it but that was before I had a credit card to run up. So I traded like 8 of my CDs of various artist, two rock and roll books, and 30 bucks. I got ripped off but it was a pretty cool CD.

So many more but I have bored everyone enough with this. I criticize the man and will continue to do so, but only because as good as the man does, he has always had potential to do more. I don't think he truly has ever understood his potential, as his brain flies from one thing to another so quickly that I wonder if he ever really considers the significance of what he has done and what he can do. Sometimes it's like watching a child prodigy doodle instead of solving complex math equations. You know he could do the math but...well if he feels like doodling (or in the case of P releasing the occasional crap CD) than so be it.

So anyway, just wanted to say thanks P. You have had slightly more impact on my life than Wham did.

worshipI totally agree!
I also just turned 33. I have been a fan since '80.
I was hooked the first time I heard "I Wanna Be Your Lover"
My taste in music has changed over the years- but my undying love for Prince has only grown with age!

Also, do you think that ugly people are God's cruel joke on humanity (like the platypus and the heterosexual) or another form of population control?
