So you would prefer this site be more like Prince's own site? You'd rather everyone here agree with each other and kiss Prince's ass 24/7? You'd rather this site be as sterile and safe as possible?

Well guess what, I have every right to express my opinions, so you're just gonna have to deal with that.

Since us Prince fans get so crazy when people get information wrong about our boy, try getting the info right about other artists---I just checked out CDnow and it says Usher released his first album in 1994...I'd say that's 10 years...
Once again...there's no need to shit on Usher and other artists to prove Prince's legacy...Dude doesn't need that type of help....

Okay...i don't think you were reading my post....I don't like a lot of music nowadays(including most of Usher's new album, which pales to the Neptunes' produced shit), but when I make comments about a particular subject, I make sure I have some knowledge about it...I brought up the album release date because some people on this site assume stuff without knowing the stats because they live in a vaccum....

I would not be surprised if people on this site thought Usher was a member of B2K. ...also I believe that comparing Usher and Prince makes no sense...it's like comparing Bobby Brown to Meshelle N'De Chello (excuse the spelling)...Why does every artist have to be compared to our boy? Can some of these young kids get some shine without having to live up to one of the greats? I say let the young kids live a little...To even make the comparisons is a slap in a face to Prince...The reason why Usher is huge right now is because IT'S HIS TIME!!!! Our boy had a great run and he is still respected throughout the industry as a icon amongst icons...

Let's try to keep things in perspective...Please....

With or without a freaking Grammy, Prince is still the king of the live stage. And he isn't into the idol-worshipping thing anymore (Read: THE real reason why he wasn't at the show to accept his Grammy).

As for Usher, he has nothing to be ashamed of. He already clean house at the Billboards, MTV (USA & Europe), American Music Awards. Plus, Usher still won 2 Grammies of his own.

Therefore, the Michael Jackson-heir should just humble himself and just accept the fact that one of his musical elders (Prince) can still beat his candyass on stage anywhere, anytime.

...and do you know why?

Because his name is Prince & he is still funky.
His is Prince, the one and only! cool

Let Usher Burn!!!!(no pun intended). cool

Seriously, I like some of Usher's songs like Burn, You Got It Bad, & My Way.

But THDH with you, Yeah! has got to be the most freaking stupid song of the summer of 2004. In fact, anything with Lil'Jon involve is going to be stupid but simple to the core.

Usher needed a reality check about respecting your elders & real black music. And Prince was the very right person to bring Usher, Kanye West, Lil'Jon, The Game, 50 Cent, Eminem, Cash Money, & all of these bling-bling brats back to school!!! cool

I think Usher has done some good things, most definitely. He's more of an old-fashioned crooner than a gangster, and we definitely need more of that!

(I'm sorry to have to say that in R&B, it comes down to "either/or" all to often these days...)

Edited for punctuation...

I respect your opinion...which seems very levelheaded, something that's not the norm on this site...And I do believe Prince showed the younger artists that you can play instruments and still be cool....But as for calling all the hip-hop artists above bling-bling (The Game, 50 Cent are more gangsta than bling bling, Kanye West is more socially conscious and Eminem is a straight up lyricist), it shows once again the public's misunderstanding of hip hop. Now Cash Money....they are definitely bling-bling....

Please. If going to an awards show or having the possibility winning an award constitutes "idol worship", he wouldn't have presented at any of the awards shows this year and certainly not been at the Grammys last year (since he was nominated for N.E.W.S.) after his performance or at the RRHOF ceremony. So, let's not make this out to be some huge grand stand on Prince's part. He either didn't think he was going to win & decided to do something else, or he had something else to do period.

Actually, I did read your post. The only problem is, it's too easy for people to make the comparison of Usher to Prince simply because they were nominated in the same category for an award. Thus the comparisons. I like some of Usher's music by the way. And I agree with your point that his music is for the younger generation. Unfortunately, this generation has pissed on music that used to be created by singer/songwriter/musicians that could really sing and make music for music that's created by computers/the hottest producer of the moment for singers (if they can sing) or visual eye candy that can have their voices cleaned up enough to pass for singing. Not tryin to be adversarial, just sharing my slant.

I think the one thing Bobby Brown and Michelle Ndchello have in common is they love women.... j/k

It's call stop wasting your time kissing the Grammy Committee's ass. And beside, I'm not blaming Prince at all for leaving the show. I'm blaming The Grammy Committee Board for wanting to wait too damn late to give artists their awards that the fans feel they deserve so many years earlier!

EXAMPLE: Why not give Prince a Grammy for The Gold Experience? To me, THAT was a very good Prince Comeback Album long before Musicology.

Seriously, I agree with you. Except for one thing: I'm not a kid coming up, and I listen to Usher..well, not presently though because I feel that he is overexposed and needs to take a hiatus.

But this thread ain't about Usher! tease

I don't think I was calling you a kid coming up...I'm refering to Usher fans today...But thanks for the love....

Uh, of course you weren't calling me a kid. You don't know me after all! After re-reading your post, I get what you mean. thumbs up!

Hoorah for Prince! I just watched the Grammys to see if he was going to be there, but he wasn't. Sure, I was a little disappointed, but I ain't mad at P for not going, especially after I finished watching that train wreck. I should have realized it wasn't going to be all that good when I heard that they made up a new dance category and Britney Spears was a nominee as apposed to the people who actually produced the song. Really, aren't the majority of dance songs good because of the beats done by producers? 9 times out of 10, the artist is irrelevant because anyone could have done the song and it would have probably still won because the beats were good. I wouldn't have gone either because of the simple fact that the majority of the artists that were nominated were what I like to call "video artists with amazing producers", meaning that their videos are almost always 10 times better than the actual song and they NEED MTV to sell their albums because they can't do it on just their talent alone. Half of those "images" wouldn't have even been nominated if they hadn't gotten the good producers and video directors that they had. I'm sorry, but that's not talent. In fact, the only performances that I liked were Melissa Etheridge and Joss Stone paying their respects to Janis Joplin and Queen Latifah doin' all that jazz. Great job ladies. I love Gwen, but I'm a little tired of seeing her perform in next to nothing. Gwen, honey, I'm sure Harajuku girls wear a little more than that every now and then; change it up just a tad next time. Eve has basically lost all credibility as being an artist in my opinion...when was her last album anyway? I'm so used to seeing her on the WB and in commercials that I almost forgot that she ever did music. I'm not going to comment on the rest of that show opening, because it started to give me a major headache after a minute and a half, so I had to press the 'mute' button...entirely too much nonsense goin' on at one time can cause viewers to have brain anurisms or seizures...simply put, it gave me the same feeling that I get when I stare at a strobe light for more than a minute. I wanted to spit on Jamie Foxx and Alicia Keys for that half-assed, or should I say less than half-assed tribute they did for Ray Charles. Alicia seems to only be decent when she's singing her own songs, because she didn't do a good job with the Luther tribute last year either. I just wanted to punch Kanye West. He's almost as arrogant and nauseating as Usher...almost. Hey Usher, James could still kick your ass in a dance off and he's like what, almost 70? All in all, the Grammy's sucked this year, so I don't blame Prince for not going. He kicked major ass at last year's show anyway. I'm not even going to get started on that tsunami tribute song that was massacred in front of me. Didn't those poor people suffer enough? If they were going for "We Are The World", than they missed it by a couple thousand miles or so. Whoo, I feel much better now that I've gotten all that off my chest...resuming cool mood now cool

To the earlier comment about the Musicology tour only being successful because of marketing...last time playing the hits...Thats a load..this was his most accessible tour since Purple Rain..he played more venues, smaller venues...he simply made it easier for the masses to see him...most people I talked to at the shows even commented how they hoped he played his old stuff...they had no idea how the show was marketed...

The ONA tour set up the Musicology tour imo. Prince caused a nice buzz with his theater gigs on the ONA tour and he played a few hits those nights.

If there was no Musicology album but there was a Musicology tour, I think Prince would have still had a big year because he was playing the hits and the buzz created from the ONA tour. Plus, he was just off the chain during the Musicology tour.

The Musicology tour was played to Arenas which are not small venues at all. ONA was played to smaller venues.

Later

Even some arenas are considered smaller venues...its not like Prince has been coming to places like Jacksonville and Columbia on a consistant basis...
