Small Club 1988

Hi Everyone!

I have read & heard that the club small sfter show bootleg is great.

For those who have this album, is it as good as its suggested and what are the stand outs that make it so good?

Thank you

I've got it. It's not only one of the best ever Prince bootlegs (if not THE best ever), its highlights are many. If I had to pick one it would be the one most people will go for - the version of "Just My Imagination", with its incredible guitar solo. It's nearly as good as the Temptations version and every bit as memorable.

It is the first Prince aftershow that slipped outa the Vault in a masterboard recording, also this was a show where he performed some songs he did not play live before at that time (Still Would Stand All Time) and some tunes he never played again (People Without). Also he plays a very loud rock version of Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic, but I do not know if that was the only time he performed it live.

The entire show is tight as censored and the quality is amazing. To me it seems a missed chance for Prince, as a live release at that time would have been right.

Disc 1:
Instrumental Jam
DMSR
Just My Imagination
People Without
Housequake
Down Home Blues

Disc 2:
Cold Sweat
Forever In My Life
Still Would Stand All Time
I'll Take You There
Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic
It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night

A MUST have for any Prince fan.
Standout tracks for me are Just My Imagination, the hellafunky DMSR, and Rave. Damn, damn, damn... it's so good.

Is it right that Prince wore this black curtain-like thing that Eric Leeds sometimes used?

Highlights? Pheew...when he asks how many of the audience members are drunk.

And I stick by Giotto on this matter and stubbornly argue that the Paris aftershow from 1987 has a superior version of "Just My Imagination" on it. Not sound quality -wise but as an overall slicker performance.

Was he wearing Eric Leeds' cape? His touring clothes?

Sorry, didn't think of the word "cape". I wrote "curtain" because what Eric Leeds wore looked a bit like it (I think I saw it in the SOTT movie).

Anyway, since no one understands me, I'm outta here.

What!?!? You were there! That's so cool. If I had a time machine with wich I could only see one show of the past it would be Het Paard van Troje '88.

The boot is great! One of the best I think... My high light would be D.M.S.R. or Just my Imagination.

I have this boot as well mine is on vinyl though so it doesn't get played much. I did have another version of this after show on CD but someone stole it. mad My favorite jams on there are the instrumental jam, DMSR, People Without and Forever in my life. The others are cool but those are my favs.
