Strange Relationship...What does this song mean to U?

I always felt that this was one of the least talked about classics of the Prince released catalogue. Always one of my most pumped songs from the whole 1987-89 period, I always felt that this song should have been released instead of moving on to the Lovesesy Project. In the spring of '88 after "Hot Thing"was a bonafide r&b/dance/cult hit this would have been a great ending to the SOTT epic. Thus Alphabet St. would have been a summertime song and Glam Slam would have been better off not released, At least from a hit perspective.

Strange Relationship would be the summed up pre-revelation of my then upcoming extremely sexy and doggish dating career. The year was 1988 and I was 15 and this song more than anything else (with the exception of inspirational ending to "If I Was Your Girlfriend" which peaked my curiosity into the art of giving females oral sensation) would be the blue print of all time for how I would treat woman. And U know it worked out rather smashing

The song means very little to me, and I rarely ever listen to it.

But it DOES bring back alot of powerful memories (I listened to SOTT almost every day back then).

Whenever I hear that album, it reminds of a time in which I couldn't control my erections--I mean I walked around with a hard-on just about every single day and was constantly thinking about sex (ironically I didnt' have sex until I was 17, and only 2 weeks before my 18th birthday, but I'd been trying since 12). I also remember very strong and powerful friendships, my racial "awakenning", and coming into my own as a person. Up until that point in my life, I was very white-oriented as far as my racial self-image. by the time I was 17, I fully accepted and revelled in my new found "Asianess".

I was 15-17 during the period where I was listening to SOTT, and those are some really F@CKED up and equally awesome years. I'd never want to repeat them, but I can still remember the extremely powerful sensations, the likes of which I haven't felt since, even in my loins.

to me it means...two people are in love but its an unhealthy relationship ...one where the man cant stand to see his woman happy...more than that he hates to see her sad...its like a love/hate relationship....a strange one cause love is there but its unhappy when loves supposed to be good so...its a STRANGE RELATIONSHIP..

alright, this may sound real f---ed up... but to me the song is about the two different sides of me. No other song describes the forever ongoing struggle of these two sides in my mind... so you can imagine Strange Relationship means a lot to me

This is my second fave P song of all time (the first being Adore). I love it. I love everything about it. So happy it made an appearance on ONA-Live (though I prefer the SOTT version). This song proved to me that despite my aversion to Ravi Shankar and George Harrison's Indian inspired stuff, I really CAN enjoy a song featuring a sitar.
