What do you think of Prince's chain hat from 1992-ish? (As displayed in the My Name Is Prince video).

I know for some it was the start of a whole "WTF!" stage, that really followed through with the name change - Prince had lost it big time.

I remember at the time, it turned off my sister who was a big Prince fan at the time, and I was just really getting into him, I was about 13, and I thought it was the coolest thing EVER! I even remember spending hours with a pair of plyers and some metal wire (I'll stop there, but you can imagine what an idiot I looked with these make-do chains weighing down the front of this black baseball cap)

I still think it's a kick-ass look (although I binned the hat a long time ago)

I loved the chain hat, it looks cool i think, why P decided to wear it / get the idea 4 it from who knows?! i actually have one of these hats that bought from the NPG store way back in London...it is displayed proudly above my bed lol

I think he looks stupid in the video.the photo's r alright though.....the video "my name is Prince" is odd? Prince tries his hardest to create a video that is cool/gritty/urban with the NPG looking good in their street clothes and yet prince spoils it with the hat? If he woulda left it off then video woulda been cool.but the playground discussion proberly proves the sort of reaction prince wanted.....

This is something that if I had the money I would blow a huge was on - like if they had his actual hat (or even a decent replica) on e-bay? Damn, I love that hat. Wear that shit to work.

Gotta give props to the dude for not only wearing high-heels while dancing (as if that wasn't uncomfortable and painful enough) but on top of that you are willing to get your face slammed with chains as well. I'm sure he scored a lot of fans from the S&M circles around that era just because of that look alone.

The chain hats, they sold them at the NPG store (organgrinder said above) - Does anyone have a pic, are they well made or shoddy like some (most) other Prince stuff?
