Cool...I wondered when this edition of the Los Angeles Times was coming out, and what it had to say about Prince...

He may be nominated for a bunch of gramaphones, but Ushraye will end up winning most of the main catagories, if Grammy trends stay true to form. Beyonce's a nice girl, but DID SHE really deserve the bounty she got? And Alicia is lovely, but why was India Arie ignored during that year's run, only to get some lil' recognition for her last album?

I think Musicology could have a strong chance. Besides, after that little cocksure bit he did at the MTV awards, about the competition between him and Justin, that turned me off. I wonder if it bothered others.

My bet is that it'll kick ass at the Grammy's and be Album of the Year; not because it's his best album, but because it's very fashionable to dig on Prince this year and the album has been a solid performer on the Billboard charts and he's been in the game for twenty five years.

If that damn Usher wasn't there, I'd say Prince would be the big winner this year. As it is, with Usher, I'd say Prince has a 40% chance of being the big winner, which is still pretty good. No matter what, he WILL take home some trophies.

It's a bizarre world. Who would have thought a year or 2 ago that we would be discussing Prince winning a handful of grammies?! And with an album that most people here think is okay but nothing near his best most creative stuff. All those great albums over the years and he might win with this album? It just shows that the most important ingredient in success is TIMING.

depending on what category.. but its for damn sure (although i dont care too much for him) That usher is gonna bring home those grammies.. he has been the hot item for the last 5 months.. his album has done wonders.. he'll get'em Somone document this post.. and bring it back in feb.. cause there is not a doubt in my mind usha's gonna do it [Edited 9/11/04 0:22am] I agree with you, but you never really know. This is the Grammy's and they just don't go on popularity. Sometimes, they do have a "veteran" win in the major categories. I remember about 3 years ago, Steely Dan swept the Grammy with their album. It was one that many people didn't expect to win because some other artist was "hot". I do hope Prince gets lots of nods this year, but I would rather him be nominated for a few awards and win one or 2. "Dear Mr. Man" should be nominated for record of the year. It kicks major ass (IMO). **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Hey... If they nominated him for NEWS (for being innovative) you know Musicology is going to get SOMETHING ... Musicology is way more than just another Prince album. It is a new way to package and deliver an artist. Musicology will be recognized. A Bubble Bath with UR Pants On is Better Than No Bubble Bath at All

why do you think it could be bad, Milty? The Org is the short yellow bus of the Prince Internet fan community.

why do you think it could be bad, Milty? sorry i should have explained myself better. what i should have said was that it's would be great if P did get nominated, even win! but i think to be speculating this early can only be a bad thing especially if he doesn't even get on the ballot. plus i don't think Musicology (as much as i may like it) is Grammy winning material. if they give it to him, it would only be out of sympathy or respect. i always seem to remember these kinds of early hype never panning out in the end.

I'm already praying that Prince gets a bunch of nods and wins them all. I think Prince can do it and I will probably lose my mind if all of that happens. Prince.org is a cemetery where folks mourn Prince instead of celebrate him and his music. Last time I checked, Prince isn't dead yet.

Promotion. You know, I think I disagree. You can promote the hell out of a thing but if the timing is wrong, it will do nothing. If the timing is right, you hardly need any promotion. Recent big Grammy winners Alicia and Norah came from nowhere - where the albums brilliant? Not really, but the timing of them was just right. Post 9/11 reflective piano jazz tinged soulful unthreatening music. Prince has actually done loads of promotion for albums that came to nothing, because people were tired of him. Now he's been seen as being away for a while and having come back refreshed, Purple Rain anniversary, big tour, etc - it's called synchronicity.

Hmmm perhaps we'll get to see Usher and Prince onstage in the same night. Usher can do his thing, Prince can do his-then people will see how much Usher pales in comparison. "I'VE GOT A MIND FULL OF GOOD INTENTIONS

He could do a Denzel and Pacino, who won Oscars for lesser works, Training Day and Scent of A Woman, kind of as a token of appreciation for the total body of his work. "Ain' nobody BAAAAAAAD like Meeeee!" c. Morris Day
