Musicology's success has been a fraude. It would've flopped if it weren't for the concert ticket scam.

I'm sorry, but if it weren't for the ridiculous and rather desperate free-CD-with-every-concert-ticket scam, Musicology would've been no more than a minor success.

The proof is in the pudding... the dreadfully dreary Call My Name looks as if it's peaked in the seventies on the Billboard charts... Musicology didn't exactly fair a lot better.

I've heard a number of people ask why this album has made such a mark... and as much as I would love Prince to be hot property once again, he simply isn't.

I think the ticket CD scam is the lowest he's stooped to get a hit album.

Can we say desperado?

I think it was a genius idea. Let's face it: At this point in P's career, he could not sell a million copies even if his CD was magnificent because radio and video stations don't(and really never have) supported him. He beat the industry at their own game. After all the things he went through with Warners and MTV(to name a few) it's good to see he can get the last laugh.

I think it was a genious move.

It may have come out of desparation, but that doesn't really matter, cuz he's got the whole industry talking about and working to copy it, so that says enough.

Now I'm certainly not comparing the killing of a human being to some of the haters on this site who continuously down Prince. But it's sad how some folks can't be happy for another's success and a few even take it to the extreme.

Has Prince ever had a tour to flop? I don't think so. Its true that the ticket/CD scam helped his numbers look good, but I don't think a Prince tour would FLOP. He might get less attention and have less access to bigger venues...then again. I don't think so. Nah. Musicology the CD probably wouldn't have had the numbers on its own, but when you're an independant, you gotta do what you gotta do to make things happen for your business.

so P takes advantage of all the "Newbies" coming into exposing them to his new style
and so far its been a success
He beat the system...
he new radio wasn't gonna play him, so he used the tour as another outlet to get it heard

I don't care what any of U haters say. The brutha has just shown his skills once again and is breaking the mold. Where is it written that an artist can't break out of the norm? I personally think it was a brilliant move on his part. If it was such a scam then maybe all those sold out shows themselves were scams too huh? Gimmee a break with all that noise. The man is hot again and will get hotter with his next album to come.

This is the tour of the year, one of the biggest grossing, most talked about, and yes every music publication has Prince on the cover.
New City Buskers were playing Prince songs during the week he was here, buses sported his picture, and for the most part where tours have sold badly or people have cancelled due to poor ticket sales Prince has consistantly sold out his shows.

So if indeed it is fraudulent, then good for Prince! I'd rather have that kinda fraud perpetuated on me then the usual BS we get.

It's only a fraud if you buy into the system. The system if fucking broke. I get where you're coming from, and to a degree I agree. Actually, for the first few months, I was in completel agreement, and was embarrassed to be a Prince fan. But the more I think about it, the more I applaud Prince for finding a way around the system.

Personally I think all this fraud/system/player/game talk is just something I'm not in the least concerned with.

That's pure laziness on your part...do the research.

*Prince's ONLY intent was to get his music heard, thus the CD giveaway idea...he had
no idea that Billboard would count them as "sales"...Billboard didn't know that themselves until after Prince's tour started. Even if BB had decided NOT to count the giveaways
as "sales", they would still be given away...Prince has found another way to distribute his
CD's, you can't hate on him for that.
Regardless what James Brown fans think, PRINCE is the hardest working man in
show business and his media blitz before his tour started paid off in gigantic concert
ticket sales, brisk CD sales (first couple of weeks), and overall exposure.
