That's what I'd heard too.
He recorded several tracks at Olympic studios in London in June 1992 (during his 7 date stint at
Earls Court on the Diamonds and Pearls tour). Songs recorded were...

Peach
Shhh
2gether
Black MF In The House
Goldnigga
A 1,000 Hugs & Kisses
Everybody Get On Up
Step To The Mic

That's old info out of Uptown's Days Of Wild, yes. I read afterwards that 2gether was actually the last track recorded for NPG: Goldnigga in June 1993. And that it turned out that the basic tracks for Peach, Black M.F. In The House, Goldnigga, Everybody Get On Up and A 1000 Hugs And Kisses were actually done in Sydney, along with Deuce And A Quarter and Baby Doll. biggrin

In London, he did more work on Step 2 The Mic and Everybody Get On Up, along with recording Shhh on 18 June. biggrin

I take it he wrapped it up in London, then. Or is the basic tracks being recorded in Sydney something I've gotten wrong? What does it say in The Vault? Will someone please check, thank you. biggrin

Yes, though I don't think it's circulating.
The operator bit is over the beginning of the song after the beat has started (similar to the one
on Eye Hate U) rather than being a seperate intro prior to the song starting.

I'm pretty sure there's a rehearsal version of Space that includes the NPG Operator bit which
is circulating though.

Well, Space did indeed have the NPG Operator saying "Welcome 2 The Dawn. U have just accessed the Space experience. Please enjoy" over the beginning of the song when prince played it live at Stars & Bars in Monte Carlo, May 4th 1994. biggrin

I doubt Space was ever placed on The Gold Experience, so maybe the NPG Operator intro for Space was a leftover from The Dawn which he then just used in the live shows? confuse

How many versions of "Endorphinmachine" are there? I like the one I have on The Gold Experience album.

Two. The released version from 1994 which is an updated version of the original 1993 recording. I think the original version is far superior to the overproduced, released version. biggrin

I can detect differences between the recently circulating version of "Endorphinmachine", the one that segues from "Come" [Glam Slam Ulysses version], and the other more familiar original version which, puzzlingly, isn't even listed on THE VAULT.

So, in effect, there are three versions of "Endorphinmachine", not two.

I like Boris' theory that "Come" was going to be a theme of the two albums (or, of "The Dawn" album, had that happened). This is consistent with the "come" bit in the edit of "Interactive", as well as "18 & Over" etc. Makes a whole lotta sense.

The same applies to "Strays Of The World", which ends with the words "Come!".

Yes, that's true, but the only difference between the two circulating original versions of Endorphinmachine is that one segues from Come and the one from the March 1994 configuration doesn't segue from anything. Otherwise, they ARE the same version.

I HAVE listed three Endorphinmachines in my list of chronological recordings. biggrin

The reason why Endorphine Machine isn't listed in The Vault is probably that they consider the original version released because it was on the Interactive CD ROM from 1994. But personally I don't consider an inclusion in a PC-game a proper release. shake

Forgive me for nitpicking a little but the version of "Endorphinmachine" that segues from ""Come" IS different to the sparser original demo due to the presence of additional overdubs in the mix.

Admittedly, they are a little hard to spot but they are there nonetheless.

To give you an example, the part where P says "I told you" (following the portion where P appears to spit) is nearly inaudible because a vocal sample is all over it.

There's actually 4 different versions of Endorphin Machine circulating...

Original version:
- the most recent one to surface, segues out of Come (as it was recorded).
Sounds quite 'live in the studio' with fairly dry reverb and very little overdubs.

Come Test Pressing version:
- a slight remix of the original version, gives the track more 'ooph' while retaining
it's raw energy. Also doesn't segue out of Come.

Interactive CD Rom version:
- totally different version recorded live in the studio with the full NPG lineup.
Basically what you might call a videotaped rehearsal version.

The released version on the Gold Experience:
- complete with cowbell. sirens, extra keyboards and kitchen sink.

I totally forgot all about the Interactive CD-ROM version err

My personal favourite remains the Come Test Pressing version.

There is yet another confirmed tracklist for an early version of The Gold Experience (at this
point still unnamed) most probably predating the March '94 configuration which included quite a
few tracks from Chaos And Disorder.
It had the following tracklist...

1. Come
2. Endorphin Machine
3. Hide The Bone
4. Chaos And Disorder
5. Listen 2 The Rhythm
6. Now
7. Right The Wrong
8. Acknowledge Me
9. Ripopgodazippa
10. The Most Beautiful Girl In The World
11. 319
12. Shy
13. Billy Jack Bitch
14. Eye Hate U
15. Gold

This is most likely the source for the recently surfaced '93-'94 outtakes that are newly circulating,
and may well be the pre-Radio Tape version of 'The Gold Album' listed earlier. 'Listen 2 The
Rhythm' is actually the same track that surfaced on Mayte's album as 'The Rhythm Of Your
Heart' (the intro heartbeat of which can still be heard as the outro to Chaos And Disorder on
the released album of the same name).

Interesting that Space has now been dropped from the initial Come / Endorphin Machine /
Space segue that had featured on almost all configurations containing those tracks up this
point. On a side note; (the original) Come and Endorphin Machine were actually recorded
segued together, in much the same way that he'd recorded Christopher Tracy's Parade / New
Position / I Wonder U as a single sequence for Parade. Space was recorded later, and was
segued onto Endorphin Machine in the mixing stage.

do u have any insight into the collection in which orgasm segues into come (beautiful experience TV version) and then it switches into the 1994 released version of come at the end, then segues into strays of the world? it appears this way on the boot called platinum. interesting that this is not included in either the vault or turn it up books.

Ok, I have a version that sounds very stuidio-ish, and right after the opening guitar lick and the song kicks in, you can hear him saying (to the sound engineer?) "more piano in the monitor". Any idea which version this might be?

Forgive me if I'm about to repeat a previous comment but I've been away for 2 weeks...

Several points really:

It was my understanding, based on reports in Uptown, that Prince indeed wanted to issue an EP containing [I think] Come, Peach, Race and Pope [not sure of all of the tracks but definatley 4] on 7 June 1993. WB refused which I believe in part sparked the "early retirement"! Despite me not remebering the exact track list it doesn't exactly tie in with the configurations of COME as listed above. I do however, have in my possession a flyer from Paisley Park detailing the playing of some "new" tracks: COME - ENDORPHINEMACHINE - SPACE, which does tie in with previous configurations.

With regard to Mayte's letter to Controversy - I don't believe we can say with certainty it was an early configuration of COME rather than GLAM SLAM ULYSSES.

The reasons you state that it wasn't GLAM SLAM is that Mayte refers to one-worded titles but as with both COME, TGE, C&D etc. could the project not have gone through many changes before it's ultimate release?

Also, could STRAYS OF THE WORLD have simply been called STRAYS originally? The way it is sung maybe hints at this???? As for WHAT'S MY NAME, well this could either have had a different name [although I don't know what] or was not included originally.

Well, it certainly fits with what JediMaster mentioned earlier. I'd love to see exactly what Uptown wrote, so if you - or anyone else, for that matter - can locate the report in Uptown and quote it here, I'll only be happy to add such an EP to the list above. biggrin

I did make a note on the list above regarding the possibilty of unknown configurations of Come that may have expanded the album to include Johnny, What's My Name, Zannalee and The Ride. nod
