Shoo-Bed-Ooh. I don't know why everyone seems to hate this song.

The melody line from "(I Like) Funky Music". That track had so much potential, it's just ruined by the drums and the chanting samples.

That's the album's most funky moment!

EXCELLENT album.

i think 98 was one of his most interesting periods. He looked slick, he music was tight (as ever) and it was painfully funky.
new power Soul is up there with the best in my mind.

I'm sure this is many peoples' answer but I have to say that "Wasted Kisses" is definitely a positive thing about New Power Soul. And I guess it's also positive that it was released only a few months after Crystal Ball. We all like to have as much Prince music as possible don't we? Of course it might have been better if he waited 6 more months and released a killer album rather than what many consider to be his nadir!

Good thread. It's nice to read at least one thing positive about New Power Soul.

I'll give two positive things...

1) I only had to buy this tripe once.

2) The power was out in my neighborhood for three damn days when this CD came out in '98. At the time, I was pissed I had to wait (no CD player in my car...no discman...and I was too embarrassed of the cover to bring it to a friend's place!). But now I can appreciate those last three days of pre-NPS silence and innocence.

There's one thing.

It was nice to see an entire album that was one genre (R&B) for once.

its short
