The Time's Single Edits?

Are any of these readily available on any CD releases or elsewhere?
A certain kind of mellow.

I'm pretty sure they're not, aside from the edit of "Jungle Love" appearing on a couple of odd compilations in the late '90s.

They're not. But they've all been ripped and they can be found online quite easily.

Could you point me out towards those? I'm not aware of them.

The only odd edit from a comp that I knew is the 2008 4:13 edit on the Poplife Presents: Poplife Sucks compilation. I just looked on Discogs and found an unexpected 6:45 mix: are you talking about that one? https://www.discogs.com/f...se/5700237

Apparently the label was a legit DJ mixes service à la Razorback, so I guess I got myself a new entry to add to my site (sigh), but I'd be interested in knowing if that was the one you were talking about or not?

.

My bad to the reply above BTW, it seems the single edit was on that CD, too: https://www.discogs.com/f...ase/731361

It could then be that other edits made their way to other comps, but the OP would have to look on Discogs for each track.

It's a shame DJ Richie P took down his Fun With Vinyl website a few years ago. All the edits were available there.

Most collections are still making the rounds online, though.

You've already clarified your questions, but I was referring to what appears to be the single edit of "Jungle Love" (based on the listed track times) appearing on these compilations:

https://www.discogs.com/h...ase/731361 (the link you already posted)

and

https://www.discogs.com/o...se/9701913 .

I did poke through the Discogs listings for the rest of the single edits, to satisfy my own curiosity, and I didn't find that any of them had surfaced on a compilation.

I would like to see a list of all the legit DJ mixes (Hot Tracks, Razorback, etc.) of songs by Prince and associated artists. I have a few of them and am compelled to hear more despite none of them exactly knocking me out yet.

Spotify has the single edit of Jungle Love for some reason.

I would like to see a list of all the legit DJ mixes (Hot Tracks, Razorback, etc.) of songs by Prince and associated artists. I have a few of them and am compelled to hear more despite none of them exactly knocking me out yet.

All I listed so far was the HQ Razorback and I think also a Stand Back Razorback (I'd have to check on my site but I'm pretty sure). I'd tried to find other Prince-related Razorback mixes but had failed to (if, however, you know any other, please let me know)

.

It's actually a little tricky to know to which extent those labels were legit including, I know realize, the one I found yesterday. I never considered Hot Tracks legit because they appear to have been unauthorized and unlicenced.

.

Apparently Razorback licenced all the stuff and I once read the founder explain that at first labels were stunned because other remix companies didn't bother to ask for a licence.

.

The Wikipedia page for remix services explains that those companies had problems with labels and the RIAA, and that there were attempts to make them legits from the mid-90's onward. But it remains unclear which became legit by licencing, which became legit because of a ruling, and which went on existing illegally.

.

On the otehr hand those companies were/are legit US companies with a street address, not some obscure bootleg makers.

.

So are they legal? Except for Razorback who licenced the material, it seems they were tolerated at best, probably because they only sold their products to professional DJs not the general public.

.

So what do we do with them? It's a bit the same problem as the material streamed and released by Wolfgang/concertvault: it's a legit company, they were sued and forced into making deals and paying royalties by several labels and artists, but at the end of the day American courts of law allowed it to exist and it cannot possibly be considered an illegal service.

.

Princevault chose to ignore Wolfgang/Concertvault, Razorback and all other remix labels altogether.

So far I have only included Wolfgang/Concertvault and Razorback, but had no reason to believe other remixes services should be considered legit, because unlike Razorback they don't appear to licence, and unlike Wolfgang/Concertvault they don't appear to have won their right to exist in an American court of law.

.

So I'm at a loss here, but i think I will maintain my current policy and not include any of those, including the JL mix found yesterday. Maybe I could add those mixes to my appendix "uncertain/unconfirmed releases" entries until we know for sure that some were licenced or retroactively made legal, but IDK if it's worth me bothering.

.

By all means feel free to let me know which of those mixes you are aware of.

I just realized we're talking about Razormaid, not Razorback. I accidentally duplicated your initial error in my earlier post. Maybe we both need sleep. zzz

You've dug deeper into the legitimacy of these operations than I have, but I did start a list of the remixes from such services (semi-legit?) at some point; by no means is the list comprehensive, I don't have all the mixes, and I don't have the kind of detail required for a discography--so it's hardly authoritative, but maybe it's a starting point.

(And these are only Prince remixes, so we've definitely veered off thel subject of Time single edits. But I do know there are Prime Cuts remixes of "Jungle Love" and "Jerk Out," at least.)

Razormaid yeah lol IDK why I've always made that mistake lol

Thx for the list, I haven't heard most of those.

That 80's DMC megamix is really cool https://www.discogs.com/V...ase/571138)

I guess for now I'll stick to my current policy but at some point I may decide to list them as sort of an appoendix
