I remember Morris Hayes saying Prince seriously had like 5 personalities. Each day you weren't sure who was gonna show up. I believe that!
* Yes, most associates, girlfriends, friends, etc. have said this about him. Susannah said he could be completely cut-off and non-communicative, and there was no discussing what was wrong. You just had to wait it out. Lisa Coleman stated she never knew which guy was coming to rehearsal - the guy who wanted to laugh and have fun like your best friend or the total stranger who was silent and all business. * This was discussed on the Mike Judge Show about Prince and The Time. They even stated his moods could change within short periods of time - not just day to day. * There were definitely some social quirks and issues there.

Sounds like Prince was a true introvert.

Definitely an introvert or anti-social with complete strangers. Seems he was more of a “Jekyl and Hyde” with those in his inner circle.

What's so must read and captivating about doing someone's hair, even if it is Prince? lol

There are millions of people who love cosmetology and hair. There are top selling books regarding hair and makeup. Just because you're not interested doesn't mean there's people who are not

i guess but prince's best looks were from before she worked for him, that guy, earl jones was better.

To me he seemed more down to earth around the time he began doing the PPAD parties. He was even letting the fans crowd around him at the one where he took over for the DJ set and looked very relaxed and laid back. He sounded like he was in a great mood as well. I thought it was cool of him to let a few of the fans like Jester get somewhat close and seemingly develop a bond with him in the last years also.

I considered preordering it from her site but the shipping to Europe is $30?! it seems she still lives in 1996 with those S/H costs. I download teh Ebook for free when it'll eventually show up on the usual boot sites.

Yes. All of these people saying this proves that Prince did not have "Bipolar Disorder", as someone I know said they thought he did, because he'dstay awake at night. With Bipolar Disorder, a mood (either depression or elation) lasts for at least 72 hours to several weeks. When a person's moods can change within the same day or from day to day, that's more a sign of regular human stuff they're dealing with.

Prince is someone that will have books written about him period. I would much rather that a book come out about him written by a woman that saw him on a regular basis then for her to not do the book and 10 years from now we get books written by people who once knew Kim Berry or once knew Shelby J and remembered some of he things that they were told in passing.

I have been longing for a book written by a woman like Kim Berry, Shelby J or Rosie Gaines etc. A book written by a woman who was never his muse and saw what his relationship were with his family and ex-lover. Many of these muses were not speaking to him all that much when he died. What was his relationships with people really like?

He always had a protege here or there and some looked like romances but I had gotten the feeling after his divorce from Manuela that he was not going to be marrying anybody else. That didn't mean that he would be honest about it. I believe that he did lead a few women on with just how open he might be to a third marriage.

I have only been a fan since 2008 and since that time women just seem to disapear suddenly. There seemed to be no mention of them again. Maya and Nandy McClean suddenly disapeared. Bria was all over the place, except on stage, gone. Misty Copeland got on stage and in a video and he seemed quite impressed. Then he didn't use her again in future videos. Next the world of Prince was Andy Allo. Next, Third Eye Girl and Judith.

People tell a lot to their hairdresser wink , I don't think that Prince was an exception. popcorn

Yes, it seems he did become more comfortable with fans the last few years before his death. I was referring more to the 80's and 90's. But I do think his nature was to be guarded and leary of those around him.

hmmm Not so sure about Prince spilling it to Kim Berry. I think he was too smart and too guarded to do that. He had also been burned in the past by former associates/friends telling his stories.

However, I have NO doubt that she got hours and hours of religious talk during his heavy JW period.

I'm with you on this. IMO, the muses came and went like oil changes, but someone with a couple of decades under their belt, who discussed family issues, everyday occurances, someone who has a better bird's eye view of the more recent daily, weekly, monthly going ons, would be very interesting to a whole lot of us. She was there at PP (how many years was Prince living at PP? 10?) not at some shop across town unlike most average people's hairdressers, simple observation weighs a lot more to me than generalized opinion.

You have brought some really interesting points...perspectives from a female 'non-muse' and why did so many women just disappear? There was much recent speculation about P and Andy A, but no real answers.

I used to be really interested in finding out more, but I do not have that confidence anymore.

I don't get the sense that any of these folks will confide in us in a real way. Lots of dancing around the perimeter.

#FACT:

*

Kim Berry was an EMPLOYEE hired by Prince to do a job. In the interviews that I have listened to she has portrayed herself as someone who kept her mouth shut and did what her "Boss" - as she referred to Prince - asked her to do. I never got the impression that he was giving her tons of personal information. I just don't see that happening. Again, as I said before, he had been burned too many times.

*

He did put her in one of his songs though - "Madrid To Chicago"....

*

Curious about the “29 years” she listed in the book title. During a recent interview stated she began doing his hair on the Diamonds And Pearls tour which was 1992. He started with the Afro from 2013 forward, so she was no longer styling his hair by that point, right? If so, that would be 20 yrs - not 29. Not a huge deal, because 20 yrs is still a long time. Just curious as to how it could have been 29 yrs. That would put her with him in the mid to late 80’s and we know Earl Jones was still there.

Earl Jones worked for Prince until 1992.

Yes - Earl is the only hair stylist listed under the Nude Tour staff on princevault.com. Tonya Thompson is the stylist listed under the Diamonds and Pearls staff information. Kim Berry's name is not listed until the 1995 Ultimate Live Tour. She has said that Tonya quit unexpectedly and abruptly, so the roster may not have been updated with Kim Berry's name, but it's odd that she is not listed until 1995. From Princevault.com:

*

Madrid 2 Chicago was first streamed in a 1:23 incomplete form in January 1999 on Love4OneAnother.com. In 2002, the full track was released as an mp3 as part of NPG Music Club Edition # 12, the final edition of the first year of the NPG Music Club. At the time, the track was announced as coming from the forthcoming album Madrid 2 Chicago (presumably planned for an NPG Music Club members' release), but this album was not released.

*

While specific recording dates are not known, basic tracking took place in 1998, most likely at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. The released version leads directly into the track Breathe (released on the same day, and also planned for Madrid 2 Chicago), indicating that they may have been recorded during the same sessions. The track was credited upon release to SymbolSmallerBlue.png, even though it was released after Prince reverted back to his original stage name, as the track was recorded while using the name SymbolSmallerBlue.png. The track's title (and its lyrics) come from the return flight Prince often took while Mayte lived temporarily in Spain.

*

Kim Berry was Prince's hair stylist in 1998 when the song was recorded, correct??

I wonder if Kim feels she 'put in her time' and he kinda owes her. It sounds like working for Prince could have been really stressful. The stories I've read ranging from Susan Rogers to Morris Hayes to Michael Bland to Rhonda Smith always brings up (to me) a kind of Miranda Priestly-type character in the 'The Devil Wears Prada'

or deployment into the Marines or Navy Seals. I have repeatedly heard that your life was not your own while working for him.

Playing Devil's Advocate, I can kinda empathize with her (or any other long-term employee). Not sure how much she was paid and it was likely uber-stressful.

Just about everyone associated with his camp has stated the pay was extremely low and the work hours extremely high - sometimes around the clock. Everyone was "on call" at any time of the day or night. Kim stated during an interview that Tonya (her predecessor) left because she wanted her life back. She just couldn't do it anymore.

I was wondering when she was officially included as part of the staff. She said in the interview for Uncovering Prince that she came on around 87/88 I assumed she meant that was when she became part of the entourage since she said she was dating one of his bodyguards at the time. I just listened again and she said that was when she began working for him. I wonder which bodyguard she dated too.

Act I and Act II tours still list Tonya Thompson. Hmmmm.... hmmm

Which proves Prince(r.i.p.) wasn't talking about Kim in 'Madrid 2 Chicago'...

"That mountain top situation is not really what it's all cracked up 2 B when eye was doing the Purple Rain tour eye had a lot of people who eye knew eye'll never c again @ the concerts.just screamin n places they thought they was suppose 2 scream."prince
