It's one thing for Mayte to talk about it but for her to talk about 'Prince as a dad' when what where does she fit into this, seeing for the longest this was not talked about between 'the parents'...

This chick here is reaching...

Yes she is, in too many ways.

I can see why she wants to use this rare photo of her plaiting Prince's hair, just as Parke has used it to promote his book. I hope they can reach agreeable terms.

Is Kim your Auntie?

Nope. I don't know her personally. I'm just a compassionate person and I think Kim must be going through something for her to put herself in this position. I believe I read somewhere that she has a daughter in college, so maybe that is why she is doing the things she's doing.

BTW, I know I'm in the minority here on the org, but I still think that it does not speak well of Steve Parke for him to go public with this situation.

Most of us go through hard financial situations at times, however, that does not justify compromising your integrity in order to make some extra money. Steve seems like a decent guy. I'm sure if she had discussed any struggles with him he would most likely have been willing to work out an arrangement which would have allowed her to come away with some extra cash.

This seems likea classic example of the, "give someone an inch, and they'll take a mile" situation.

real dissapointing, kim seemed so real and then the socks and this. made me feel sick to my stomache to read this, if i had the money i'd buy it just so it has a better guardian. My mentor, who was close to Bruce Lee sold one of the iconic yellow track suits from Game of Death, dissapointing but money is everyone's god.

Kim seemed very genuine to me at first and like she was protective of Prince and his legacy. I saw a new talk that she did the other day and she closed with an open letter to Prince and was crying by the end. I'd like to give her the benefit of the doubt and believe her when she says that the whole thing was a gross misunderstanding but I don't know. There is also a new interview that is going around where she discussed some of his most famous looks and how they came to be. While I did enjoy it and found it kind of fascinating, I'm very wary about buying her book now.

there are a million books about prince out there that would probably be better, she doesn't seem like she would be able to put a good book together and she probably doesn't really know how to articulate the artistic importance of prince in any way. I don't know, dissapointing. in another thread (no i'm not starting a mj vs prince thread) we're talking about MJ's former friends saying he was a monster, my point is, money makes people do crazy shit so i don't know why people would believe them. My mentor, incidentally, is 94 and has alzheimers, we don't speak but I'm sure it's other money hungry people around him who either convinced or did the suit selling. They got 10 grand, the auctioneer sold it for 100 but that's besides the point.

To Kim's defense she ALWAYS did say she wasn't really a Prince(r.i.p.) fan. That she preferred other artist to him. Prince knew that & that's why he had her around for so long. Because she wasn't afraid of him & told him THE TRUTH.

all i know is that selling someone's hair is lowdown and greedy, i don't care how "real" she kept it. someone who does these things has a severe lack of integrity, and a lot of people in her shoes would do the same, don't kid yourselves.

When you say "Kim copyrights," are you referring to her signing the photo of her and Prince? If so, I don't believe that is a form of copyrighting. Rather, I would call it "autographing." And, from what I have read, she was giving the photo as a bonus to those who paid to attend her events.

When all is said and done, it is an unfortunate mess. I hope they can find a way to make peace about the rare photo of Prince and his longtime hairdresser. If I were in her position, I would make whatever arrangement possible to obtain the right to use and autograph the photo. After all, it is not unusual for public figures to autograph photographs taken by others. I don't believe that autograph implies copyright.

And, I still think Parke misstepped by going public. Of course, I know that, legally, he apparently owns the photo. But, I'm talking about human decency and kindness. I say, let the woman use (and autograph) perhaps the only existing photo of her actually doing P's hair (in those adorable braids/plaits, no less) in such an intimate setting. I'm not saying that Parke doesn't have the right to publicly complain about it, if she indeed ignored his wishes, I'm just saying that I wish he had taken the high road, especially since, as I have said, I can't see how Kim was really damaging him or his book sales.

He said he spoke to her about things prior. She's grown, how much more would he have to?

Plus I believe he was preparing for a/another photo book release, he has a right to shut her down.

Get permission. It's a business.

What does a new book release have to do with this already published photo? That aside, we agree, "he has a right to shut her down." I'm just saying that, in this case, I don't see the sense in his actions. I know that most here don't agree with me, but I can live with that.

It seems his public statement was a result of Kim's apparent deceptive behavior with assuring him that she was not using his photograph to promote herself or to make money from it; however, after that conversation he found the pictures of her selling his photograph which she had autographed as her own. He was pissed off at that point, which I think is a reasonable reaction.

She autographed the photo because she is IN it. I have seen no evidence that she claimed ownership of the pic. Frankly, I think Parke's stance over this one photo speaks of greed and selfishness, especially when he has hundreds, if not thousands, of other photos of Prince, from which he will, no doubt, earn income for the remainder of his life, as will his heirs. Plus, he reportedly allowed her the use of the photo in her book; so, why not allow her to reproduce and autograph it? Further, will he object if she autographs the photo on that page of her book? Sheesh. He could even insist that his photo (and book) credit appear in any such reproduction of that ONE photo.

Steve didn't give the okay for Kim to use that photo in any other way than in her book. PERIOD. She misused it more than once, assured him it wouldn't happen again, and sure enough, it happened again. It's easy to say others should take the high road when no one is talking about your livelihood. How many times do you allow people to walk all over you before you say enough is enough? Well, here's the thing.....numerous associates felt it ok to express an opinion (and most not in a nice way) about Mayte's book so she is certainly entitled to comment in regard to Prince's hair being auctioned. Frankly, I think she was very tactful.

The sarcastic comments were relating to Mayte attempting to sell Prince's personal items (clothes, ear cuffs, etc) prior to his death. I believe, during her stint on Hollywood Ex's, she also had some of the other women trying on his shirts. Classy.

Mayte commented about the Steve Parke photo situation, not the hair. Yet, SHE had no trouble putting Prince's rare childhood photo, or virtually anything else of his, on the auction block. She just needs to be quiet and stop her hypocrisy. SMH.

Mayte commented about the Steve Parke photo situation, not the hair. Yet, SHE had no trouble putting Prince's rare childhood photo, or virtually anything else of his, on the auction block. She just needs to be quiet and stop her hypocrisy. SMH.

My thing with Mayte is more what she did and said prior to his death - as far back as 2011 and onward. I get being spiteful about how the marriage ended, but the public bashing/mocking and trying to sell his personal items was immature and wrong.
