AGAIN....you are fantasizing and romanticizing a situation that did not exist. Denise had not seen nor spoken to Prince in many years prior to her passing - per an interview that she did in 2012 to promote the re-issue of her book Blame It On Vanity. She was asked if she still saw or spoke to Prince, and she jokingly replied, "through osmosis", as in they did not see or speak to each other. She stated it had been several years since she had talked to him.

*

Prince was informed just hours before his Melbourne P&M show that Deinise had passed. So, naturally he was very upset and was grieving during the concert. Of course he would dedicate some songs to her, however, he did not dedicate the entire concert to her. He spoke about her, told a funny story, and said they USED to love each other deeply. I have no doubt if Susannah, Sheila, Jill Jones, or Susan Moonsie had passed he would have been equally upset and would have honored them the same way at the show. Prince was reminiscing about many things during those shows. He mentioned his Father giving him rythm. He wanted to "show love for Wendy and Lisa" and spoke about meeting Lisa Coleman at his first P&M show at PP. He explained the meaning of If I Was Your Girlfriend - which he wrote for Susannah Melvoin - at the last show in Atlanta, and he mixed that with Waiting In Vain in several shows. He changed the lyric in Forever In My Life - another one written for Susannah - to "I love you for the rest of my life.." at the Auckland P&M show. So, it wasn't just Denise he sang or spoke about during those concerts.

*

Prince rearranged his Oakland show so he could get together with Apollonia, Jill, Brenda and Susan after the Memorial and his concert. Apollonia wrote about it on her FB page. From what I understand he did not attend the Memorial, which makes sense because him being there would have taken the attention away from honoring Denise. However, he did invite the girls to his show, and they got together after the concert.

*

Prince DID NOT die because Denise passed away, nor did he die of a broken heart. He clearly had been in ill health for quite some time, as he was extremely thin (112 lbs) for some time before his death. Prince had been planning other shows and future recordings. Denise had been a born again Christian many years prior to Prince turning to the JW faith. She was not a JW, therefore, Prince would not have connected with her in that regard either. They do not accept any other faith but their own.

*

Prince had many love songs throughout the 80's, 90's and beyond that were in fact NOT inspired by Denise, and we know this. Please stop with the fairytale fiction!!! If Prince had wanted to be with Denise he would have been with her - period. She moved on to other relationships and then got married. Prince moved on as well. His comment on Oprah was, "everyone THOUGHT I would marry Vanity..." meaning, those who thought that were wrong. In no way was that comment implying that he really wanted to marry her. Just amazing how people come up with their own narrative to his story.

[Edited 2/13/19 14:12pm]

i think he meant that Denise was his other great loveup to that point that people associated him with. he was acknowledging just the two, Denise and Mayte, and that it was Mayte he married instead. interesting that it was still close enough to the 80s that Denise was even still on his mind.

[Edited 2/13/19 21:42pm]

Well he was seeing Nona too at the same time as Mayte and Nona was shocked.

And it wasn't like Prince had the option of marrying Denise, she cut Prince off around 1990 and she got married before Prince did in 1995.

True, however it seems Susannah also cut him off at the '90-91 mark as well. Vanity was on the Regis And Kathy Lee show in 1990 showing off the sculpture she had made for Prince, explaining that she had first given it to him a couple of years prior but he wasn't that into it, so she took it back to work on it more. Then when she saw him the next time he liked it and wanted to keep it. She joked about him wanting to sign an agreement on it. So, she was clearly wanting to make it publicly known that she was still on touch with him.
*
Who knows really. I'm actually thinking he was trying to hold on to many relationships with women through the years. I think he wanted them for different reasons or wanted them to be there for him on his terms.
*
So, if you use that idea then you have to look at the songs instead of the time frames.

I agree that he seemed to be holding on to several relationships and at the end there was indication that he had more than one woman on his mind. Very difficult to figure him out. What he said after Nothing Compares To You at the second P&M show at Paisley seemed to reveal that he was thinking about someone in particular that night.

What did he say Pink? I haven't listened to that second show yet. Interesting because that song is connected to Susannah

Well of course he wanted the 'love' to continue, even though it had to change.

Denise got married, and I believe she was devout in her faith. Even an emotional relationship is still cheating. I believe the love evolved into friendship between Prince & Denise and Prince & Susannah. Which is the emotionally spiritually and mentally healthy best way.

There is still a differenc in Eros and Phileo. I don't think people have to cut people out of their lives because 1 aspect of love did not work or it ended. Dedicatings songs to Vanity at the PMM shows doesn't mean he was still in Eros with her. He also dedicated Nothing Compares 2 U at Big Chicks memorial, and he dedicated the song to Bobby Z when he heard of his heartattack.

I think it evolved that way on *their* end, but if you go by many of the songs he wrote in the 90's about the heartache of losing someone he loved (at least in his mind) - like Goodbye (1991), Solo and Dark 1993), Right Back Here In My Arms and I Hate U w/ new spoken word, A Million Days (1995), Wasted Kisses (1997). Vanity was single through the early 90's and also dealing with recovery from being close to death due to the drug abuse, so I don't see Prince trying to make that work with her at that time. Susannah was in a serious relationship and I believe living with John Cusack at that time as well. Kim Basinger had also married Alec Baldwin in 1993 and had a baby in '95. So, all of the "I miss you and want you back" love songs could have been inspired by any of those women with whom he was more serious. Or, certain songs may have been connected to one, and others to another one. That's the genius of Prince. He was clearly speaking to someone in certain songs, however he used word play and cryptic details in order to keep us guessing about the subject. Apparently, he knew what he was doing, because we all have our own ideas on who the subject may have been smile

that is called processing the situation/love/relationship etc artists always reflect through writing/poetry/song/painting relationship(of all kinds) after the fact. Most things are not 'resolved' right then and there' but it helps in moving forward in a healthy way. Being in love with someone who is married is not healthy. Being in love with someone who doesn't want want 'that' from you anymore, is not healthy. Unrequited love is not healthy.

Yes, I agree 100%, and I'm sure Prince used those songs as an emotional outlet, however, it does appear that he suffered from that unrequited love dynamic with someone or possibly more than one. Strange But True, which he wrote in 2000 tells that story very well:
*
"You're the only one that I gave it to, the one I fantasized for, and time away from you has taught me what I should've known, this hole I've been trying to fill with another - yeah, it's grown. And I got your package, but when I tried to write you back I bailed. You see, in trying to express the future sometimes language fails. But over this time I realized my life force has grown from knowing you, every door that closes, another one opens. Strange but true"
*
I think those lyrics say a lot. Hans Martin Buff stated he fought to get that on the RU2TJF album. He said he suspected that Prince was hesitant to release it due to the personal nature of the lyrics.
*
So again, the songs really speak to how and what he was feeling about things in general or a specific person at a particular time.

He said that he had forgotten that music sometimes can make you emotional and he thought that perhaps he had chosen the wrong songs for that evening but that he would try to get through it. After NC2U he said "One more sad song and I will have her out of my system" He then played How Come You Don't Call Me and told the audience "We're not gonna worry about her" Someone seemed to be weighing on his mind that night.

And it wasn't like Prince had the option of marrying Denise, she cut Prince off around 1990 and she got married before Prince did in 1995.

Wow

Wow I'm a longtime observer of Prince and Denise. The two stayed in contact like the song goes until the end of time I'll be there for u. Anyone who read the Prince Death Investigation Files know that he was described as discouraged. Grieving is a process. One minute your okay and then the next you can be in a dark place. Prince was hurting emotionally and physically no doubt. He had plans he was picking up the pieces. He was gonna rerelease LRC in Denise honor....he's had past associates describe Denise as his soul mate, true love, love of his life. The two were in contact the last year of their presence in this world. They had an unbreakable bond.

I hadn't heard about him releasing 'Little Red Corvette' in Denise's honor. I recall that he released a performance of it on Tidal, along with Dirty Mind from the Sydney P&M show but that wasn't dedicated to her.

What??? Release LRC in her honor? Come on!! Please provide documented proof on that claim. Again, just more fan fiction here. Prince was sick - either from overuse of pain meds or another affliction or both- for a long time prior to Denise's death. He spoke of her and dedicated song (LRC) in her honor at the Melbourne shows, and then moved on. I'm not saying that he was not still sad about her death. However, to embellish by stating that he died because he couldn't bear to be without her is just absurd. Really absurd. He was in touch with everyone prior to his death. He knew he wasn't doing well.

Can you expand on this statement? Denise's brother in law is here on the Org, and he said they were in contact up til 2012...

Right, and per Denise's interview in 2012 she had not spoken to him in a few years. However, they may have been in contact after that interview in 2012.

It seems you are saying that he helped her financially?

She was in need and Prince made contact. He was there for her.

He was helping several people financially in later yers. He also reached out to Susannah in 2014, and helped her financially. She stated he was extremely generous in helping her and her daughters out of a tough financial situation. So, it was not just Denise he was helping in that way.

He also deposited money into both Brenda's and Susan Moonsie's accounts prior to his death.

Yes he was. She would ask God for $3000 and she said God provided it for her and it just magically appeared in her account...

No, Susannah reached out to him. He gave her money and made her sign an IOU. It is documented. Either way, she got what she wanted.

Yes, but they didn't ask for it. Apples would've gotten 15K too at that time, but she was leary of giving her account number out and thought it was a scam.

Prince was good in helping the former associates in their time of need. Too bad many of them do not appreciate all he did for them...

WRONG!!! Susannah SPECIFICALLY stated in her interview that Prince had heard about her situation - again, it was made very public and was also a thread topic here during that time. BOBBY Z called Susannah to tell he he was trying to reach her.
*
Same with Vanity. She had a GoFundMe page set up in 2012 in conjunction with re-releasing her book. I would bet it was the same with her. Prince read or heard about her financial issues and sent her the money - or more likely - had his Manager send the money.

WRONG. Again he made Susannah sign an IOU, it's documented in the court records, and as of his death she still had not paid it back. Whether or not she has NOW I do not know. I imagine the Estate is not going to write it off and either collected or is collecting from her.

I don't care what Susannah said in her interview. People lie all the time. What I do believe are the FACTS in the Estate records.

Like I said in my above quote. Either way, she got what she wanted. Correct?

Yes exactly. Prince adored her. Now if she was just a fling like certain people around here want to make her out to be, he wouldn't bother to lift a finger to help her. But she was more than that. So much more.

Her union lasted less than a year I believe. She said marrying him was one of the stupidest things she ever did.

See that's the difference Susannah signs that IOU! With Vanity she didn't have to worry about an IOU😊😊

I'm sure she had a pay-back arrangement with him, as it was clearly a much larger sum of money than the $3,000 he sent to Vanity. Point is, HE DID NOT HAVE TO DO ANYTHING FOR HER OR REACH OUT TO HER AT ALL. Seems to me that it was a great way for him to stay in contact with her. So was asking her to record with him just prior to his death.
