This live recorded version of "17 Days" was captured when Brenda was inducted into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame in April of 2015... This version is the same as the one recorded with Prince. Be sure to check out Brenda's new version of the song on her new CD release 'ONCE AGAIN'."

Did Brenda need to get permission from the Estate to have 17 days on her album? And Blue Limousine?

I don’t know how all of this works but i wanted someone to acknowledge your question because it’s valid. It is possible for some of the friends from the old days the estate turns a blind eye?

Cover songs do not require permission; that was one of Prince's biggest "problems" with covers, although I would be more inclined to think it was a control issue rather than permission, since he did quite a bit of cover work (especially live) post-WB. Only compulsory/mechanical licensing fees and royalties that are automatically taken out due to the licensing that's paid.
