Yeah, blame the underpaid and overworked guys for jumping on a possibility to improve their lives.

Blaming? Just say and do what you say you’re going to do. Not shit behind people’s back or be a little bitch and not show up for work.

.

Yeah, they were in control of the snowstorm that grounded their plane. Such evildoers.

.

I love the "they got a huge break" BS. Yeah, what a break: got a shitty tour bus, barely got paid, didn't get to play on their own records, had to do double duty (backing band for Vanity 6).

.

Ghee, I wonder why the band broke up before PR.

Please. Quit making them out as victims. They weren’t even supposed to produce on their own while members of The Time. They were doing it behind his back. The storm had nothing to with it. If they would have been up front about it, and been men about it, then that would have been cool. But they were flakes plain and simple.
But hey, they grew up an did well with their talent, but thanks in large part to their association with Prince and The Time. And they know this. They themselves wouldn’t downplay that fact.

You say that like it is a reasonable demand. Perhaps you wanna look up what Prince moaned about for decades since 1993 or so.

.

.

Ah, so if they had been honest about what they were gonna do -- WHICH PRINCE FORBADE THEM TO DO -- it ould have been OK? Oh, except for the fact that they wouldn't have been able to do it and perhaps wouldn't have kickstarted a career as one of the biggest production teams in history.

.

But they were flakes plain and simple. But hey, they grew up an did well with their talent, but thanks in large part to their association with Prince and The Time.

.

Perhaps their initial jobs were as a result of them being part of The Time. But pretty soon they were getting jobs because THEY WERE IMMENSELY SUCCESSFUL. Wait, weren't you calling them flakes? Funny how they collaborated so well with tons of other people.

Oh quit being an ass kisser. Nothing I said is untrue. Good for everyone in milking a Prince connection. A lot careers are based in part on who you know, then it’s up to the individual and their talent to plow forward. Jam and Lewis had the talent to take it forward. Good for them.

According to Jimmy the Questlove interview Prince was bluffing, very very badly as it turned out, they were still getting paid, who gets paid once they are fired? I'm not sure why that part isn't included in the retellings.

it usually is, i was going to earlier but my post vanished when i went offline and i didn't feel like writing it again. When i was young, i was dissapointed in those sorts of stories, as I got older, I saw some true justification in why he had to be that way. Musicians are lazy, entitled, whiny, usually addicted so I do see both sides. There are two things going on with a lot of "assholes" they are abusing their power because they can, (power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely) and if you leave people to their own devices, most people are pretty useless without a foot up their ass. as a musician myself I just avoid it all by working alone but it ain't easy for anyone. They say even the ever classy duke ellington was provoked into beating up certain band members who kept testing him and he was about as tolerant as a guy could get, often opening up shows with only four members of his big band because his fuckups were sobering up somewhere. It's a pain in the ass.

That was the first and last time I've heard that version. It always just ends with P fired them, the bastard. That's it. When there is a tidbit more to what happened or at least that's what Jimmy said. Idk, but it sounds like they were setting up to leave The Time soon anyway, the hook may have been for Morris to go with them but Morris and Jesse sides with P. Who knows.

search up, the more knowledgable, old fans know the stories and it's been brought up before. Prince did a lot of cruel things, thank goodness for all the post-death stories that came out to balance out that bullshit. It's no big deal really, i'd rather deal with an in your face asshole than someone who covers things up and Prince didn't try to cover up his mean side much, let's face it, we all have one.

Yep. Prince never spoke ill of people publicly. Whatever he did good or bad, it stayed private.

Been milling around for a while so I can't say nobody tells the extended version but it doesn't come up that often. People hear what they want to hear anyway.

I am so loving this series. Why isn't this thread on the main "Prince" forum....practically half the episodes so far have revolved around Prince.

And what might Betty Davis have to say, I hope something. I know Prince was a fan of hers.

What?

Love The TIME, but all these dudes flaked on him big time. Morris while filming Purple Rain and after. JJ & Lewis who didn’t give him notice that they were creeping on him and left him and the band stranded. St.Paul who dicked him big time. love the guys, but they were big dicks. Lol We all know he didn’t pay well, but they all flaked on him instead of being men about it. They pussyed out once they got the big break.

Jam and Lewis were simply trying to produce a record for someone else and they got stranded by a snowstorm. The thing with Prince is that...he didn't want his "employees" to pursue career opportunities outside of the camp.He wanted them to stay in the band, make very little money, and not be able to utilize their own talents and make lots of money elsewhere.Morris Day has spoken about having to turn down a duet with Evelyn "Champagne" King because Prince didn't approve of it.Yes,Prince gave them a spotlight and some fame, but it's a shame the way he wanted to control their lives.

BEAUGARDE

It seems like Prince was controlling, but he was controlling HIS ship, Morris didn't like it & went on about his business. Now how did Morris & Jesse run they ships? Prince had a style that he didn't want the rest of radio to have but Jam & Lewis starting producing acts like kinda sounded The Time. I would be pissed too. From they gate sum of these guys were trippin (Alexander O'Neal). But I understand their poilnt of view as well (lol)

Everyone is flawed. We can see ourselves in them. We are not as talented as them, but knowing that they are real people who put their pants one leg at a time is cool. These stories are funny and interesting for those exact reasons.
