Clarence and Vanity in a movie together

I was flipping through the MGM Movie Channel (ch 744 on Fios) and saw a movie from 1986 called 52 Pick-Up. It stars Roy Scheider, Ann-Margaret, Vanity, John Glover (who was Lex Luthor's father on Smallville) and Clarence Williams III.

I've never heard of it but I set the DVR to record it. It airs 4pm ET on October 20. It's listed at 130 minutes but they often have a long batch of commercials at the end of a movie. There will probably be only 1, maybe 2, commercial breaks in the movie itself. So it's a good sit down.

it's only 43% on Rotten Tomatoes. Ebert liked it, but other critics panned it as dull. Others said it was face paced and darker than Black Sunday.

Anyone seen it?

I actually saw this in the theater when it was released. My friends and I went specifically because we knew Vanity was in it.

.

It's not a bad movie, in my opinion. It's been quite awhile since I last re-watched it but IIRC, Clarence's role isn't that large but he does have scenes with Vanity, so that's interesting. Vanity of course looks gorgeous as usual and the scene I recall most is one where she's talking to somebody (just checked, it was Roy Scheider's character) and she's in her bedroom and is holding a big teddybear...I thought she looked very Vanity 6y in that scene! lol

.

The movie is definitely worth a watch to see Vanity/Denise, but really I don't remember thinking it was a 'bad movie' for an 80s thriller/action film. I thought it was enjoyable for what it was. smile

Hope you enjoy the movie. smile Have you seen her in "Terror Train"?

It doesn't air until Saturday. I do pay a little attention to Rotten Tomato scoring. It's a decent, but not solid, gauge on a movie's watch-worthiness. I've not seen many Vanity movies. Action Jackson was great, and I think I probably saw The Last Dragon. I really don't know what else she's been in if I'm being honest.

I didn't like that Vanity was killed in this movie. I think that was a bad idea as she as the best character in it. Her part should have been bigger. Clarence Williams is a scary and sinister looking man. sad

Well dang, for some reason my DVR did not grab it. But it's re-airing on Friday October 26 at 2pm ET, MGM HD (FIOS 744). I'm setting the DVR again to record it.

Clarence Williams III was in Tales of the Hood he's always so intense and wild with his characters. They made a sequel airing on Netflix without him.

I agree she was good but this movie was dark with seedy characters.

I finally watched it. It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad. The imagery was interesting w/ the teddy bear, or the straight-up Vanity 6 image in the pics above. It was a pretty dark movie. But it was nice to see her. Clarence's character was fucked up. lol
