MonoNeon interview about working with Prince

Prince's last bassist MonoNeon discusses how Prince found him and what is was like working with him.

http://www.okayplayer.com...rview.html

"Another cool thing about the times I had playing with Prince was that he just let me play. Sometimes he would say, “I will follow you,” when we jammed on some songs. Prince gave me a lot of freedom, which I didn’t expect… he let me be MonoNeon. Outside of playing music, Prince would invite us to hang with him at the Chanhassen Cinema down the street from Paisley and we would watch a movie with him."

Yeah, MonoNeon is starting to blow up, unfortunately it wasn't with Prince. Looks like he started to get a lot of attention when he started posting those Cardi B mash ups to his instagram. The Roots played a few of his tracks on Jimmy Fallon when Cardi b was a guest. It seemed to take off from there. I'm shocked no big artists have snatched him up because he has endless stream of original grooves. Maybe he is just too clean, he woud ending up blowing fools out of the room. I mean, there is very few dudes that can make the Bop Gun sound funkier than it already is.

Prince definitely gave him a way in.

Dude can play anything, probably with anybody. I saw him in the Jazz tent with an excellent young straight ahead jazz cat - Terrance Martin. You don't just jump in those waters if you're not a strong swimmer.

Once MonoNeon became known far-and-wide as "Prince's Last Bassist," he had arrived. Really, his ascent began the moment he set foot in Paisley Park. I know Prince would be exceedingly proud of his success. IMHO, the case can be made that MonoNeon is Prince's last bonafide protege. Here is a great article in which he details how he caught Prince's eye.

Prince’s Last Bassist… MonoNeon…

I remember Prince saying to me, “I saw you before I heard you.”

I first got to Paisley Park early 2015 – got an email asking, “Are you available to come to Paisley to jam?” And of course I said YEP!! Read More...

Great article! I love the clip called "VIBES" that Prince shared on his IG of what Mono said in the article was there last "late night jam session" at Paisley. Thanks for sharing Fly!
