I'm reading the comments on her facebook page. Some fans are brutal confused but most seem to be supportive.Apparently, she had a bad cold and that's why couldn't perform properly, but some fans don't believe that.

Bummer. Yes, I think I remember reading she went to rehab shortly after Prince passed.

If I’m not feeling well with a heavy cold and have a bad day at the office, it’s no big deal, but sadly with umpteen thousand fans in attendance, if you are the star of the show and are not feeling your best, there is no place to hide. It’s good to read that most fans are supportive and understanding.

The last time I heard Chaka sing was at the tribute and she seemed in fine voice then. I hope Chaka is back feeling right as rain very soon.

Having seen her performing live umpteen years ago, I know that Chaka in fine fettle is capable of delivering a great concert. She’ll bounce back no problem…ain’t nobody does it better. (Ok, so it’s ‘loves me’ and she ain’t Carly Simon…the names Khan, Chaka Khan cool )

sad Very distressing to hear this. I hope she will be all right; I know she's struggled with substance issues since the 70s. When I saw her in 2011, she was in good health and looked and sounded great. Her voice was as wonderful as ever. Prayers for Ms. Chaka...

I love Chaka but, having seen her live last year, it's a stretch to say that she's clean.

This is sad to hear....I sincerely hope it was due to some innocuous medication; unfortunately, as has been discussed here time and time again, addiction is a lifetime battle. It's also unfortunate that the passage of time can help ease the pain, heartache and shock of losing a loved one. She needs to be reminded of the pain, heartache and shock she (most likely) felt when given the news of Prince passing. If her "disorientation" is because of something untoward, she could unintentionally inflict this same pain, heartache and shock on her loved ones. I can't imagine she would want that.

Wow, this is worrying. Hopefully her close circle sees this as a clear sign that they need to be with her and get her back on track if she's taking pills again. We can't lose another artist this way.

Change it one more time..

Some of these "fans" are not fans. And many of the people I've seen posting comments on social media and message boards and Youtube video commentary come off as more interested in getting likes and views than wishing someone well and their 'pray up' rhetoric reeks of insincerity.

For real?! I don't read that shit; I know Chaka is a great singer and she has had her ups and downs. I hope that she gets back on an upswing soon.

The reality of the times we're living in is the public is more interested in watching the video of the artist being dragged by some dimwit with a webcam than the video of the artist doing their art.

First of all, why is this in the Related Artists thread? Will any future posts about Patti LaBelle be moved to this forum? She has worked with Prince, too. But, I digress. biggrin

The official statement that was released is Chaka has been battling the flu for several weeks now and took the stage this past weekend despite doctor's orders because she didn't want to disappoint her fans. My opinion is she should have cancelled. She's cancelled lots of shows in the past with zero explanation. People die from the flu. If she cancelled, sure, some fans would have been upset. They just have to get over it. Life happens.

What really saddened me was seeing folks using their phones, panning around the place to show just about every seat had emptied out during Chaka's performance. That broke my heart. Chaka has a reputation of being an unreliable live performer. Sometimes, she's 100%, a force unlike any other! Then, there are those performances that leave you wondering how she has managed to survive 45 years in this business?

I'm FB friends with a former C.K. background singer, Penny Ford, who travelled with Chaka for many years. She has seen Chaka both snookered and high and she says neither was the case this past weekend. I believe her. I place the blame on Chaka's management for allowing her to even risk her life and reputation like that.

If I were advising her and she insisted on taking the stage despite my objections, I would have told her to at least let the audience know she was feeling under the weather and to please bear with her. I have a feeling a lot of people who ended up leaving would have stayed to support her and things wouldn't have blown up the way they did.

Thanks for your post. I'm heartened to hear that Chaka's background singer considers illness as the cause but I agree with you that the show should have been cancelled or an announcement made before Chaka left the stage. When I saw her in 2011 with Chrisette Michele she gave a terrific performance...

I agree wholeheartedly!! Recent posts about Janelle Monáe's new album and her nods to her mentor Prince were moved to the Music: Non-Prince forum. And, it seems that one of the cuts might have actually been produced by Prince near the end of his life. Same thing with the recent news of Meshell Ndegeocello and her cover of Prince's "Sometimes It Snows in April" on her new album. It was not allowed in the Prince forum. I just pray that Queen Chaka keeps her head up. This, too, shall pass.

Oh she will. If nothing else, Chaka is the ultimate survivor. Her reputation as an unreliable live performer has been haunting her since she first started with Rufus in the 70's. She always bounces back. Just when folk think she's over, she comes back full force to blow everyone away! Even in 2018, Chaka can still wipe up with floor with 99% of the alleged divas of today. lol

I know enough people who've worked with Chaka over the last few years and that flu is clearly a recurring thing wink

I really do hope she sorts herself out. At the London show of hers that I attended last year, the weirdest thing she came out with was "I won't be around that much longer".

Yeah. I don't think the folks over at her board appreciated it when I made the statement that they are starting to sound like Nippy's fans when they were trying to explain away Nippy's horrible live performances by saying she had the flu. She had the flu every performance for 10 years. Yeah, okay. lol

I saw a little of the footage of her performance in Macon and while it was better than last weekend, it still wasn't up to par. She was struggling. Some fans are saying there is still something wrong. I still say if she really does have the flu, she needs to cancel all shows until she's 100% over it. The flu kills people. She is putting too much stress on her body. She just turned 65 on March 23. It's more difficult for her to bounce back from ailments so rest and allowing her immune system to heal should be her #1 priority.
