The Love of His Life

I have video of one of Prince’s longtime associates who was around all the time until the end, saying about Mayte and Prince: “She was the love of his life and he was the love of hers.”
When people standing around the associate said, “Wow”, and so forth, the associate continued, “That is the truth. That’s the truth.” The associate repeated this four times.

Maybe the reason Mayte doesn’t get into all the, “He loved this one more” stuff, is that she is secure in this.

I do see her and Prince as having a real love, meaning keeping the others’ happiness utmost in mind. She really cared about him and his music.
There weren’t games. Only respect.

Yeah stuff happened after the tragedies, but they did have this.

I think he knew she was his friend.
Mayte wasn’t selfish like some other women he had long relationships with.
She was all in.
She put her career behind his to be with him.

The most heart breaking piece of work product resulting from Prince and Mayte's union....Comeback - 1998 The Truth Image and video hosting by TinyPic Walking up the stairs Just the afternoon Sweet wind blew Not a moment 2 soon (Hoo) I cry when I realized That sweet wind was U Spirits come and spirits go Some stick around 4 the aftershow Don't have 2 say I miss U (don't have 2 say I miss U) Cause I think U already know If U ever lose someone Dear 2 U Never say the words their gone They'll come back, yeah They'll come back, yeah yeah They'll come back Tears go here Tears go here Tears go here Tears go here

NACN, both "Comeback" and "Until U're In My Arms Again" are the most heart breaking pieces of work product resulting from Prince and Mayte's union. And those are the two known and published songs about Amiir. Per Mayte's book, there are more songs about this subject in the Vault.

.

Until U're In My Arms Again

All of my life I've never wanted anyone like I wanted U
Every night I said a prayer 2 God and His angels
I'm sure they knew
The many tears that I'd have 2 cry
If I ever had 2 leave your side

CHORUS:
Until U're in my arms again
I know this pain will never end
This broken heart will never mend
Until U're in my arms again

Every mornin' when I awaken, I imagine U sleepin' in your bed
Wrong or right the reason U're taken from my embrace
Well, it's never said
Cuz every day that U don't return
Is another day that my heart just yearns and yearns
That's why…

CHORUS

If life remains a mystery
Then there's no reason 2 the rhyme
And U, U'll never know what U mean 2 me till U're mine, all mine

Until U're in my arms again {x3}

(CHORUS)
Until U're, until U're, until U're in my arms again!
No, ain't never gonna end
Never gonna mend
Until U're back, right back in my arms again

I'll never see like others see
(I know that U'll come back 2 me)
I know U're gonna come right back 2 me (Come on back 2 me)
And this time U will never leave my arms again
(Never leave my arms again)

Until U're in my arms again {x3}
Come on back, baby
Come on back {x2}

Until U're in my arms again {x2}

Wow. I never heard that one.
Prince, we miss u so much.
We know you’re with your baby now. 💗

That's a sweet one. She was pregnant with Princes only child.

They both appeared to be excited about Amiir! This RS interview, published November 28, 1996 (while it's apparent the discussion occurred late in Mayte's pregnancy, it seems odd the decision was made to publish it considering the circumstances), quotes the following: Of course, no such scenario would be complete without someone in the role of the indulgent girlfriend. Cast in that spot is prince’s gorgeous and very pregnant wife, Mayte, 22. Wearing a short black dress with white trim, the word baby stitched across her chest in white above an arrow pointing to her stomach, Mayte sits quietly and smiles, shaking her head fondly at prince’s uncontrolled enthusiasm. prince’s marriage to Mayte and the impending birth of their child were two of the important inspirations for Emancipation. It’s no coincidence that what prince describes as his “divorce” from Warner Bros. Has occurred right around the time of his marriage and Mayte’s pregnancy. “I don’t believe in coincidence,” he says flatly. Along with covers of such smoochy ballads as “Betcha by Golly, Wow” and the Delphonics’ “La-La- Means I Love You,” Emancipation is filled with what prince sheepishly calls “sentimental stuff.” Discussing how he has been affected by the prospect of fatherhood, he says, “You’ll definitely hear it in my music.” For the song “Sex in the Summer,” which was originally titled “Conception,” prince sampled his unborn baby’s heartbeat. “Of course, that ’s a tempo,” he says. “The nothing baby set the groove for this song. Mayte always smiles when she hears it.” prince may have used his baby’s ultrasound as a rhythm sample, but he and Mayte did not ask to know which sex their child is. “It doesn’t matter, “ prince says. “We all have the male and female with us, anyway. We’ll be happy with whatever God chooses to give us.” And just as prince has no intention of once again taking the name Prince - the people around him refer to him simply as “the Artist” - he says, “The baby will name itself.” As he prepares to preview a song called “Let’s Have a Baby,” prince turns to Mayte and says, “You’re gonna start crying - you better leave.” Then he explains to me, “I got my house fixed up and put a crib in it. Then I played this song for her, and she started crying. She had never seen my house with a crib in it before.” “Let’s have a baby,” the lyrics run. “What are we living for?/Let’s make love....” He points to a portrait of Mayte that is framed in gold. “I can’t wait for my baby to look up and see Mayte’s eyes,” he says, his voice filled with wonder. “Look at those eyes. That’s the first thing the baby is going to see in this world.” Full interview here - https://sites.google.com/...ember-1996 Also, Spike Lee (SL) interviewed Prince (TA) in May 1997 in which he spoke briefly about his love for Mayte, the hope for more children and Amiir. Excerpts as follows: SL: You said earlier that you have been in love with Mayte for one thousand years. Can you elaborate on that? TA: I am a firm believer in reincarnation for people who either have more work to do or have so much debt to pay back that they have to be here. I hope for me it is the former, and my work was finding Mayte and having a child, which we will continue on until there are several here. SL: Would you like to comment on how the media attempted to make a circus out of that particular episode? TA: What people have to realize is that if one has a firm belief in God and the spirit, then one does not make statements that are negative and untrue. I would have been lying to myself and the spirit of the child. I have a very thick skin. I take everything that comes and let it bounce right off of me because I know the time will come when nobody will be able to speak falsely.... Full interview here - https://sites.google.com/...w-may-1997

Excited is an understatement. They were thrilled to become parents. Based on what Mayte wrote in her book, prince was thrilled, ecstatic, so-in-love, over-the-moon-happy about becoming a father. He somehow convinced Mayte's doctor to sell him the heart monitor. He had people build a playground at PP/their Galpin Road home.

.

People can say what they want about Mayte's book, but the details that she shares about prince's behavior during her pregnancy and while their son was alive are quite possibly the most heartwarming, magnificent, and flattering descriptions that anyone could ever write about the man. He was an absolute rockstar of a father and husband during Amiir's short life, and it's because of her book that the world knows how great of a father he was and how great of a husband he could be in his best moments.

I am heartbroken for what he went through.

Agree, most definitely, with your statement I have bolded, Michelle. Prince's actions during the week their precious son lived left no doubt, in my mind, that he would have been a loving, patient, caring Father. Definitely, a sad affair that Prince and Mayte were denied the opportunity to shepherd Amiir to adulthood. That child would have been loved ad infinitum.....

Something was different about P and Mayte for this associate, who had an all-around view of everything, to say that.
The associate wasn’t around when P and Mayte we’re together, she was there afterwards. So I don’t know what her basis is for this.
It was either things she saw, heard or was told by P, or things Mayte expressed to her during the many hours she spent with Mayte after P’s passing.

I do know Dr. Fberry said around late 2016 that some female friends of P’s told him that P had told them that he still had “very deep feelings” for Mayte, and this was said in a way that when read, I felt this was beyond P just “caring”.
Then again, Dr. Fberry sometimes puts forth things strongly with his opinion during times when he feels something. Whatever the case, I believe those were P’s exact words.

[Edited 3/6/18 13:14pm]

When did Dr. Funkenberry say this? During his podcast? On Twitter?
.
I ask because, while some fans are quick to criticize and throw shade at Mayte, my understanding is that Mayte is on good terms with Sheila E. and is a friend of Shelby J’s. It is fair to say that Sheila E. and Shelby J. were both close to P prior to his death. In addition, P’s siblings permitted Mayte to attend his funeral. My line of thinking is that if P had negative sentiments toward Mayte at the end of his life, the family would not have permitted her to attend the funeral or tribute concert in October; likewise, if P had negative sentiments toward Mayte, Sheila E. and Shelby J. would not be so friendly with Mayte. In addition, I think it is worth noting that none of Prince’s siblings nor the PRN Estate condemned or took legal action regarding Mayte’s book, The Most Beautiful.

yeahthat I agree! It’s healthy to occasionally reflect and reminisce on the past, but living in the past is unhealthy.

Until U're in my arms again {x3}

(CHORUS)
Until U're, until U're, until U're in my arms again!
No, ain't never gonna end
Never gonna mend
Until U're back, right back in my arms again

I'll never see like others see
(I know that U'll come back 2 me)
I know U're gonna come right back 2 me (Come on back 2 me)
And this time U will never leave my arms again
(Never leave my arms again)

Until U're in my arms again {x3}
Come on back, baby
Come on back {x2}

Until U're in my arms again {x2}

Wow. I never heard that one.
Prince, we miss u so much.
We know you’re with your baby now. 💗

I forgot to mention that there has never been explicit confirmation from P, Mayte, or anyone else that the subject of UUIMAA is their son. However, it is quite obvious that he is the subject when one listens to the song and analyzes the lyrics. Also, in chapter 9 of her book, Mayte mentions that she and prince prayed every night for their unborn child, which UUIMAA mentions as well. The raw heartbreaking emotion in prince’s voice in Comeback and UUIMAA is also strikingly similar. Based on reviewing past threads, there seems to be a general consensus among orgers that UUIMAA is about their son.
.
Sigh, it breaks my heart that prince and Mayte lost their only child. sad broken From what Mayte wrote in her book, fatherhood brought out the very best in prince, and I’m happy that the world knows how great of a father he was because I think that he deserves to have the distinction of being a great father on his proverbial resume, even though his son’s life was short-lived. He may not have had it in him to discuss his fatherhood with the world, outside of the songs Comeback and UUIMAA, but fatherhood is/was a part of Prince’s life story. As sad as the fatherhood chapter of his life is/was, it had a profound impact on the man into which he evolved, particularly regarding his spiritual/religious views (conversion to the JW faith) and the direction of his music (namely, “toneing-down” the sexual content of his studio and live music post-1996).

I loved them together...it's a shame it didn't last.

I really think he wore his heart on his sleeve for Mayte in a way he didnt with anyone else

I was happy to read this, but the romantic and optimist in me wishes Prince had told this to Mayte. She always seemed to hold out hope. It would have been nice if they could have reconciled -- even just be close friends and have closure on past issues -- in his last years. They shared so much together.

Hopefully, if he didn't tell her this directly at some point, these friends have shared these things with Mayte. I would think that had there been any doubt in her mind, finding out he still cared for her deeply after all this time and what they went through would mean the world to her.

I agree. We keep reading about the people he reached out to in his final months and I wish Mayte had been one of them . It may have done them both good to re-visit their time together from a more peaceful and reflective time in their lives .I feel , of all the people he should have spoken with , it would be the mother of his child ...especially if he still had feelings for her ...RIP

Maybe it was still too painful for him.

He said something like that in a podcast of his.From what he said,he seemed to agree that Prince may have had some lingering feelings for Mayte but he said that he felt his pride may have kept him from admitting it.He also said that Prince was interested in dating Misty Copeland and Dani Leigh as well so he didn't make it sound like he was pining away for her or anything like that.It would have been nice though if he and Mayte had become close again if that's what he wanted.

He also said that Prince wrote U Will B for Misty.He said that about Danielle after talking about Kandace Springs suggesting in the GQ interview that Prince came on to her and he talked like he doubted her story and that he thought it was disrespectful to Prince for her to say that.He went on to say that Prince was interested in Dani that way but she has never talked about it and has remained respectful.Also that Prince was very respectful and went to her mother and asked if it was okay with her first.

Wow this picture brings back lots of memories I was at this game (Knicks at MSG) I spotted Prince right away. I screamed ot "Prince is here" so loud my entire section heard and everyone started looking courtside. When they played "Lets Go Crazy" we really did because the Knicks were ahead and Prince was at the game. We were screaming and waving our towels
